    Goodfellas GIF

I'd get loaded up with sedatives at MDAnderson and they'd make me get a ride home.  That process essentially entailed me pointing in the other direction and scampering to my car when their heads were turned.

Didn't the Texas State kid disappear during the Icestorm or an inclement weather thing? Fog?

Theory is he got lost/stuck in his car on his way back home in Luling, got out of the car, and wandered off road, got lost in some field, and died somewhere. The car was found just a block from the turn onto 183.

Nah, that dude was was lit on something, had been facetiming with one of his friends while fucked up before leaving and googling weird shit about how long you can last outside.  Cops think he wandered off, died and was eaten by pigs.

Isn't that just pointing out being obese raises the risk of certain cancers, not cutting down is an effective treatment?

Yeah, he moved the goalposts from fighting cancer to cancer risk.

Next we'll be talking about other stupid fake miracle cures that get people killed, like alkaline diet and castor beans.

I’ll probably say this fairly often in this thread

Cancer cells have double the number of glucose receptors as regular cells in the body.

So, carbs/sugar are much much more important to the growth of cancer cells than other cells in the body.  Cancer needs glucose to grow.  That’s why fasting is so powerful when fighting cancer.  If you don’t want to fast, cut all the carbs.

Rest very assured that doctors at MD know all about the reasons why you should cut carbs from your diet but the big mystery is that they don’t include it in treatment strategy’s.

It’s just one of those things that doctors “choose” not to get involved in.

I've been through the ringer at MDAnderson for stage 3 colorectal cancer.  My oncologist was a self-admitted stats freak.  He printed and gave me studies on treatment options for the exact positions I was in, both before treatment and during treatment as my cancer landscape changed.  He told me there was no evidence that sugar feeds cancer cells differently from other cells and no evidence you can starve cancer by cutting carbs.

I'm going to guess stage 2 colon, given the "preventive chemo".

I have it on good authority you get the same treatment for stage 3 colon as well.

And the docs take one look at colon cancer in a scope before surgery and go, "yup, that's probably cancer."  So probably not colorectal.

At my age (49), it's not just the empty calories; alcohol also really slows down metabolism and fucks with digestion, leading your body to store more calorie consumption as fat.  I've tried to be a moderate drinker for the most part over the past 10 years or so, not drinking during the week and limiting my alcohol intake to the weekends.  But I've noticed more over the last couple years that any noticeable weight fluctuations are usually tied to heavier drinking (e.g., Longhorn football season, holidays).

I quit drinking and lost about 50 pounds.  I knew I would lose some weight but I went from fat to almost high school.

The pre-scan anxiety is real. My scans are on Tuesday, and  warn people in advance that I’ll get more anxious as we get closer but will be fine. I’m now about eight months into remission. Just one more good set of scans should get more through graduation of business school, then I can come back to Texas.

Scanxiety sucks ass and there ain't nothing you can do about it unless you want to pop xanax like candy.  But it's a hell of a day when you get a good report - in my case the glory words were "no evidence of metastatic disease."  Good luck!

    all good my dude.

my kiddo ended up having a diverting ileostomy done in the fall to give her meds a better chance of working. plan to take it down within 6 months assuming the meds start to finally do something. we tried controlling by diet, but a teenager is gonna do teenage things so it wasn’t successful. i’m hoping as she gets older, she’ll get wiser and give diet change real effort.

An ileostomy should give her motivation, even for a teenager.  I've had one* and was extremely motivated to get rid of it.  Hope she does well.

  9. Today is a milestone for me.  Since about July 2021, I'm down 50 lbs.  Since early August 2023, I'm down 30 lbs.  For the first time since 2014, I'm under 200 lbs (just).  This isn't the endzone, but it's a good day.

Well congrats, nothing like seeing your long lost buddy, the number one, leading off on the scale.

said this on the prescription thread, but we were running neck and neck with bruin for a while. my 16 yr old has crohn’s and was taking $30k dose of stelara every two weeks for over a year. we’ve recently moved on to 1x stelara ($30k) and 1x entyvio ($10k) per month. you’re welcome, united healthcare.
she’ll be doing yet another scope next month ahead of changing out entyvio for rinvoq. one of these days we’ll get this poor child into remission.

    keep soldiering on my dudes.

Sorry to just butt into your business but my wife has Crohn’s and fought it like a Mfer from age 20 to about 35. She ended up with 2 resections, Remicade and all that and was still flaring up. She ended up controlling it with diet. She popped up allergic to all sorts of common food - gluten, dairy, etc. She cut that out and has been pretty good ever since. No more drugs or flare ups.

  11. They’re awesome! I wasn’t expecting much out of mine but it tracks all the metrics I keep track of and dozens I don’t. After only about six months I consider it a necessary part of keeping fit. Only downside I’ve seen is some of the metrics are crap. The default heart rate zones aren’t accurate and differential heart beat is off, just off the top of my head.

It was his blood pressure. Genetic. He started on meds and they're already working. I need to get my ass to the doctor. I'm an only go when something is wrong guy. I'm really scared of what they're going to tell me and I have been for a good 15 years so I don't go. I guess the alternative is worse.

I did that for years and years.  You know this, but it s a fucking huuuuuuuge weight off once you get those sorted, or at least controlled.
