HEB has a "resort area" of sorts for any employee to schedule and use. Well, it was possible when Oma worked for HEB.
How many of these properties does HEB have? I know they have one right by the causeway in Rockport. A buddy of ours went to work in their IT dept and we've been bugging him to try and get us in there.

Shiiiiiiieeeet, Erewhon would clean up in Austin between all the pretentious tech bros and gals, then throw in all the influencers. Either downtown or West Lake would be a money printer.
I didn't have any of my usual Herdez roasted salsa verde but had a jar of this in the pantry that I got a while back in a meal deal. This is definitely going to be my new go-to.

They are pissed, they didn't wanna go save people, they wanted to go tell everyone to gtfo. The best water rescue is the one that doesn't need to happen.
Its not his fault for anything that happened, but it was also every bit as stupid as it is being made out to be.
This sounds like some dumb hindsight shit.
"We coulda went down there and warned them if it wasn't for our Chief!"
Why didn't they go warn the people in Travis/Williamson/Burnet county then? Sounds like they have previous beef with him and are trying to use this event to drum up support for his removal. They would have done the same thing had he sent the teams. They would be bitching about being shorthanded the next day.

Operation BBQ Relief is a well oiled machine. I volunteered with them in Houston after Harvey and I was astonished how well they ran their org during chaos.

One of the tragedies with a lot of stuff (not just Kerr County) is seemingly otherwise intelligent, educated people like Moser behaving like complete dumbfucks when they get into politics.
Moser, who was first elected to the Precinct 2 county commissioners seat in 2012, previously had a long career in the aerospace industry. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and Ph.D. studies at Rice University. At the NASA Johnson Space Center from 1963 to 1986, he served in key management positions including as chief engineer, program manager of the Space Shuttle and Space Station. Upon returning to Texas from Washington, D.C., in 1997, he served as the executive director of the Texas Aerospace Commission, where he established Texas Spaceport Authorities.
It's crazy to read his background, then go back and re-read his comments from those meetings and think that a guy that has had the career he did was completely cool with continuing to rely on a game of telephone as your warning system to prevent loss of life.
It's fascinating.

I think it deflects blame from camp, local and state officials.
the storm was stronger than anyone expected but the forecast was severe enough to cause reasonable people to take action, and they did not. Those are the ones to blame.
My take is Camp Mystic is to blame for their tragedy. They are locals and should have been well aware that there were no sirens or advance flood warning system locally. It should have been standard protocol that they have a night watch crew equipped with weather radios or whatever necessary to monitor for any updates from NOAA/NWS. Same goes for Camp La Junta or any other campground in that area. They had plenty of prior warning to move people to higher ground.
Kerr County and anyone involved in neglecting to set up sensors and sirens in a known flood plain should have to answer for the lives of all those poor folks from the RV sites and houses on the banks of the river that were lost.

I'm not trying to be crass this soon after this tragedy but I can tell you now they aren't going to give one single fuck about this either.
The reason being is any sort of meaningful deep dive will expose the truth of their mismanagement from the top down and just like every tragedy in this state, this is the official position of our Republican overlords:
...and this will probably be the same for a lot of the families (at least the ones running in prominent circles). The main tenant of the modern GOP is solidarity in never admitting a mistake. This will be chalked up to "God's will" and prayers will be asked for, time will pass and nothing will change. To admit a mistake is to admit failure which is not an option for the GOP.
The only time a member of the GOP finds a backbone is when they're retiring or dying. Once they've used up their cache and it no longer serves a purpose, only then do they speak out against the hive mind.

I had to go pick my oldest up from his mom's place in Georgetown at 3am so I could take him to the airport and yeah, I caught one of those bands that peeled off around that time. Shit was hairy.
After this happening yesterday, it was rough dropping him off this morning. He's going for a week to a scout camp just outside Asheville, NC and that tropical storm has me nervous as hell.

I am righty on everything. I grew up using a baitcaster the majority of the time so when I started saltwater fishing and bought spinning gear, it felt too awkward to reel with my left.

being a car guy, it always made me cringe a bit from the rolling shots of his Ferrari and seeing all the swirl marks in the paint as the street lights pass over it.

is this the thread where you post when you've been DOGE'd / TACO'd? My now prior employer is in the healthcare space and is very reliant on federal/state funding and grants. We went from living it up during covid to now "workforce reduction and restructuring" because of all the cuts made and cuts proposed. I knew things were going to shit but thought my position was pretty insulated from cuts.

What they need is therapy and some proper mental health care.
There are plenty of other billionaires that are perfectly content banging 10's and living on a yacht somewhere because either they had a normal childhood and/or don't have any mental health issues.
