  1. When I worked at the Tom Thumb at Legacy/Coit as a yute, it was the highest-grossing Tom Thumb in Texas. Now? It's become a ghost town as more options opened up. This news will make it worse. I won't be surprised if the shutter soon.

I'm in Plano but too far for that. Hope they eventually come to the East side as well.

Don't hold your breath. Plano has given up on everything east of Alma.

CNN has lost half their viewers 25-54 at 7pm.  HALF

I dig it. The problem is she asked back-to-back-to-back questions about '24 and a possible matchup with Trump. It was unserious and low-class for that environment. Rightfully, she's getting eviscerated on Twitter.

This is so fucking stupid, I can see why he hasn't done it yet.

    Are you running in 2024?

What about 2028? Can Kamala win?

Those questions came from the CNN reporter, shocked? They are addicted to Trump and his voters.

    I mean, I think it's a great strategy.

If they just go whole hog abandon the filibuster after 2-3 months with the majority, they are going to get KILLED by screams of overreach and other bullshit by the GQP and their friendly media.  The Sunday show hacks like Chuck Todd are salivating at it too.

But if we have concrete evidence of GQP doing full on obstruction of popular legislation like infrastructure, voting rights, gun control (after another mass shooting), I think the public will be more supportive and Manchin and Sinema can save face by pointing to the obstruction.

Remember, memories are short.  We need obstruction THIS TIME to make our case, not what happened years ago under Obama.  People don't remember that far back.

Remember ACB? This is a three-day story once they do it. Dems are just pussies. Making a debate of this is the worst thing they can do. Jus rip the fucking bandaid.

I skew pessimistic too. But why is Warnock fucked? Georgia is doing their best but Stacy Abrams is going to be on that ballot with him, and that should boost turnout.

Stacey Abrams a few weeks ago came out and said it would be difficult for Warnock to win if this bill goes through.

Stacey Abrams doing work on the morning shows today.

She is doing too much heavy lifting. It'd be nice if she got some help from Washington. Consider it a repayment of a debt for what she accomplished last year.

If we're in November '22 and there are miles long lines at Zone 6 ATL voting precincts I'm going to put a lot of the blame on Biden and the squares in the Senate for their inaction. That would be a total abandonment of the voters who put them in power.

One can hope.  I for one am skeptical, because the social issues du jour of the day will be blasted nonstop combined with traditional Democratic turnout during midterms = uncertainty.

One advantage to now vs the 2010 midterms:  the Tea Party shit started up in mid-February 2009.  In 2021, Team R is so disorganized and functionally fucked they can't even mount a cogent response to $1.9 trillion, other than to vote no.  If the Democratic Party can get through this calendar year without some kind of astroturf movement  full of soundbites against them that is overwhelming the message they want to spread, then the future will look a little brighter for November 2022.

Dems are on pace to be gerrymandered out of the majority in the House and have a 50/50 chance of losing the Senate (Warnock is fucked). Until they address this head on, I have zero hope for the midterms.

I've been saying for months that they should abolish it immediately and don't need to worry about optics because they won't matter by November 2022, but the optics of the GOP filibustering the John Lewis Voting Rights Act are pretty undeniably good. Force that and then some public messaging about how the filibuster has historically been used by segregationists to deny black people the franchise, and you get the double whammy of being able to message both that the current GOP is actually no different from old school segregationists and that the filibuster is bad and has always been bad.

I'm not as optimistic as you are about how palatable this bill is to the public. Anytime a bill is targeted towards minorities there is pushback from White America. Always.

The ideal time to rip the bandaid off was when Republicans blocked the checks. Everybody can understand that without the tribal nonsense.

    HR1.

You think so? Chris Coons was on Joy Reid's show yesterday. She pushed him hard on the filibuster/HR1...his (non)answer was less than inspiring. He also completely ignored her question about voting rights, which was infuriating.

the optics are important that Republicans are the bad guys not the Democrats. Being a bully is never a good thing, but beating up a bully when they fuck with you is always awesome. Have to let them fuck with you first to punch them with good optics.

The most opportune time to nuke it would have been when the Republicans were blocking a bill with 70%+ approval.

To be fair, President Trump’s four years in office weren’t so bad, except when when he incited an insurrection against the government, mismanaged a pandemic that killed nearly half a million Imagine thinking that doing something that gives Republicans literal carte blanche to do anything they want next time they have the three branches of government is smart.

"We've been losing the gunfights for years, let's turn it into a grenade launcher fight!"

Instant gratification world. Too much social media and too many parents that don't tell their kids no.

I find it so ironic that you're making this insane doomsday point on a piece of legislation that is literally a preventive measure from that occurring again.

With HR1 you get fair district lines, same-day voter registration, strict guidelines on voter purges, etc. Meaning Republicans would have to finally win on a fair playing field.

If they find a way to win total control of the gov't under those circumstances, you should have learned from the ACA repeal effort that it is difficult to get rid of popular legislation. And if they do do it, who gives a shit. At least we get a fair redistricting cycle for a decade.

I genuinely cannot believe you are being this much of a coward.

The goal is to find a way to get lasting legislation, not something that will be around for a few years until Rs own the government again.

Jesus this is such a dumb pussy take.

let’s not do something bold to save democracy because the big bad Republicans will just reverse it next time they’re in the WH. Wow. Imagine Republicans talking like this.

Sadly many people in power genuinely don’t care.  They think they will be fine regardless of what happens because the system was built by and for them, and they’re right, for the most part.

If he cares about his legacy then he should care. A stain on Obama's legacy was the fact that the party was hallowed out under his watch. Biden is essentially leading the Dems to slaughter not getting this bill passed by any means necessary.
