Wimberly cleanup folks:  what are going to be the biggest needs going forward?  I don't own a chainsaw or a truck -- I could go buy the former -- but I can drag shit to somebody else's truck, I can handle a broom/mop, I can bring in supplies, I can donate money.  Which efforts were overdone and which fell short?

I remember a few Texas natural disasters (Bastrop fire, various rain bombs, some tornados, etc.) where FEMA etc. basically said "stop bringing clothes and food, just give money", but I'd like to also do something on site if possible, however meager.

I was part of the Wimberley group, and my wife and I went other days as well.

Best thing to do is just show up. You can either sign up and be put somewhere or just go help folks on your own. Long Lines and organization can be haphazard so we went out on our own and found an older couple (in their 70-80's ) and helped them all day. Not why we did it but we got an invite to their 4th party a few months later.

We’ve migrated back to Kerrville, actually my side of town (south). Birds are doing slow, low level passes. I’m back at my house. But the flight pattern, and the non-urgency of the helicopters, make me sick at what they’re now looking for.

It's still a rescue situation and not yet a recovery op. Known victims would be gotten to first with a quick, deliberate flights. What you described above are active search patterns.

Finding adults (even harder kids) in brush or trees in flood waters takes time and slow, deliberate, repetitive flight paths.

My wife just showed me a picture of two girls sitting in a helicopter that got airlifted out. It was daytime.  I am not posting it. But there are active rescues still happening it appears.

Reports of blackhawks ( and if so, no doubt the TXTF1 birds out of Austin and SA) along with Travis County STARFlight and TX DPS.

Pretty sure this is one of the DPS birds hoisting below...(lower left corner video)

Maybe I was blinded because I was a kid, but those game seemed to mean more then. At a minimum they meant more to me. Can’t recall when I last watched or even checked out an all star game box score. If I had a ticket, I would go for the first few innings.

    Those games did mean more.

There was no interleague play back then and free agency hadn't taken full effect yet. players played the same team (or almost) for the entirety of their career. Switching leagues was also not common. The ALL Star game really pitted the best of each league and it was important to show which league ( at least for a night ) had the better players and format ( no DH in NL).... The National League DOMINATED the 60's-'87, losing only 4 games in that span and a streak of 11 straight from '72-82.

I'll always remember that throw to Gary Carter in the All Star game. That was incredible.

He had another throw to 3B to gun down Jim Rice in the same game.  The two OF assists helped him win 1979 ASG MVP.

Those throws, Ichiro's laser, Vlad Guerrero's famous throw, and Bo Jackson gunning down Harold Reynolds at home plate are the most iconic OF assists I can think of off the top of my head.

Kind of grainy but both of those throws are in the video/ X post in my reply above. Funny how guys thought they could run on Parker. His arm is right up there or above with Clemente, Bo, and Ichiro.

    Rifleman. RIP Cobra

  6. Went down there this past week to visit the daughter before her and her family move back to Cancun. Great visit with some awesome food and sightseeing the Zocalo, halls of Montezuma, and a sunrise over the pyramids.

Farmer seems like a perfect fit at a place like Irvine. Good for him.  Was not expecting Ace to USC.

Past history. Sean Allen is the pitching coach there.

Are we sure that didn’t fly off his right hip/ butt cheek?  Looks like he came up and gave it a flex bump at the exact right time.

I think it went off his right shoulder or shoulder blade by the way the way it bounced so hard and far away.

Arky mascot as piggy makes sense but how did swamp state pick Tiger for mascot?

Dates back to at least the Civil War (LSU started as military school) and maybe as far back as the Mexican-American War where Louisiana regiments or battalions were known as/ nicknamed the Louisiana Tigers. A regiment in the Civil War fought fiercely ( like Tigers) in the Shenandoah Valley and the name supposedly could have been taken from there.
