not quite but i remember the cell phone write up where the guy bought tix before the nebraska game. Then they came on the field and nebraska looked "big, mean, and fast". Tonight finally fit where we were the bigger, meaner, faster team. By a lot. Seriously, watch the replay, it was a thing of beauty.

Been a fucking minute since we got scored on and the Texas offense immediately answered with a drag our nuts across YourFaceDrive. Goddamn glorious. And on the road!!!

I tend to think we have a chance if Sark comes out and calls some dink and dunks and chews up some clock. If he dials up the bomb on 1st down I'm throwing something at my TV.

Return of GDGD? It all comes full circle

  3. I don’t remember being pumped with the eye test against La Monroe in last year’s first game. Then bama had to make a comeback with a heisman qb after ewers went out and our backup could barely walk.

IT’S STILL REAL TO ME DAMMNIT!!!!

I mean yeah- he turned him loose but there was nobody there. I wouldn’t have any way of knowing who committed that mental error.

This is often the problem with fans complaining about scheme issues. Most don’t have a damn clue about pass protection schemes and most likely passing concepts as well. (not even including coverage adjustments or blitz induced hots) We don’t know what they are coached to do or who really made the mental error.  Most people don’t know that they don’t know stuff.

Not limited to us or this game but interesting stat to keep an eye on going forward.

Something anyone paying attention already knows, but it is good to see it in the numbers compared to past seasons. Like has already been said, if they really want to shorten games then place strict time limits on penalty reviews. If the refs can't figure it out in 2 mins then the call on the field stands.

I like this idea but the reviews that take the longest are usually when they have to re-spot the ball and/or fix time on the clock.

Worthy's best position would be in the slot. In that highlight package against OSU, we saw Smith run routes that both Whittington and Robinson run. There was only 2 deep shots, and one was against a LB. I think Ewers got impatient and because of injuries, Worthy had to play outside. If Mitchell and Neyor can stay healthy, the best grouping would be Neyor and Mitchell outside with Worthy in the slot. There isn't a defense in the country that could stop those 3, especially when you add in Sanders at TE.

Always thought worthy was a natural slot.

The new "Zach Shackleford isn't that good and player X should replace him at C this year”

Which was the new "Dominic Espinoza isn't that good and player X should replace him at C this year”

Which was the new "David Snow isn't that good and player X should replace him at C this year”

Which was the new "Chris Hall isn't that good and player X should replace him at C this year”

Which was the new "Lyle Sendlein isn't that good and player X should replace him at C this year”

Whoever said that about sendlein should get kicked in the nuts for eternity. Lol

If pierce doesnt win the CWS next year, itll be the longest a coach at Texas has been before winning a NC in 100 years of Texas baseball

Good point that nothing has changed in over 100 years in college sports which allows for a direct comparison. Especially lately. Nothing at all.

  9. We just aren’t there yet.  We’ve seen enough Texas teams to know what it looks like.  This team has made the most of opportunities and ground out some wins but we are not the most purely talented. Pierce has done a great job getting them to this point. I would say overachieved.  Whatever happens for the rest of this game it’s horns up!

Nice video breakdown of Abmas. What an amazing shooter and pnr’s with Disu for midrange and Shedrick and Mitchell for rolls to the bucket  should be a strength. Will his defense improve or will he at least give more effort? Will better conditioning enable him to do so without taking away from his offense?

Shedrick can help on d for drives but will get eaten up on pnr’s if abmas continues same lack of effort.

Hunter is terrific on hounding the pg dribbling the ball up court and that will help Abmas on the defensive end. Hunter’s not a great shooter as he needs space as he brings the ball down when shooting threes. With the focus on Abmas, Hunter should have more time for catch and shoots.

Did duke establish the game plan to limit Abmas?  Probably and with Mitchell and Hunter not great shooters, it might be effective. But Texas is way more dangerous than ORU. If Abmas doesn’t have the ball in his hands, there should be lots of off the ball pnr’s with opportunities for the roller as well as Abmas

This will be a fun season.

Hunter and abmas seem about as complimentary as it gets with a guard combo. Their strengths seem to be the other’s shortcoming.

i've never understood game planning the first 15 or so plays of a game. imagine if a baseball manager told his pitcher, "here's the first 25 pitches you're going to throw, regardless of what's actually happening in the game." then again i'm not football coach or expert- not by a long shot. still, i can't be alone in wondering what the supposed advantage is of deciding the first 10-15 plays you're going to run on offense days before the game actually takes place.

bonus question: why don't coaches script their first 10-15 plays in defense if it's such a good idea on offense?

Oh I missed the bonus question…

most defenses kind of do but they are more situation dependent than the offfense. Most DCs have an idea what you are going to run on certain situations. (I.e. first downs are 80% bubble screen to the boundary..shout out GDGD) so they will be in a certain call on first downs for that. They also have formation specific coverages or blitzes. (I.e. 3rd and long with a 3x1 formation) the defense will have practiced this and should have an idea how you like to attack that situation.  It’s MUCH harder to be a DC as the offense holds all the cards.
