The OL was garbage last year. That being said, Buchele is terrible. For some reason, when he is our QB, no one ever gets open. Maybe because he doesn’t know how to throw someone open. He’s just not a good college QB
Add to his reluctance to lead receivers through their routes with good anticipation, the dude just doesn't have any pocket awareness or escapability.

Dont ever lie to yourselves and act like you don’t care about A&M.
great baseball game last night. Our recruiting class is top 5, texas’ is barely top 20 one spot ahead of Miami of Ohio. Lol. We are going to sign the top two players in the state this year. #WRTS

Same here. There have been so many bad teams on their schedule the past few years. This year may be different with Clemson being good, plus maybe a better arky squad and uk getting better last year with lots of returning starters.
I do think it’s safe to presume they will underperform their fans’ expectations. So we got that going for us, which is nice.
This is totally fair. Shaggy did predict 6 wins the last two seasons on the recruiting boards. But the effects of recruiting classes are felt on the field at least a couple years after signing day. Sumlin's 2015 and 2016 classes will prominently figure into Jimbo's W/L this year, and they leave something to be desired.

I really liked No Country for Old Men. Thought is was a great movie, but I can't get over the scene near the very end where the young lady walks into the room with the psychopath and sits down to chat with him and tries to convince him not to kill her. 100/100 people would see that crazy bastard and running screaming like your hair was on fire.
The movie, as well as Cormac's source novel, inverts all of the Western tropes (bad guy gets his, good guy gets girl, rides off into sunset, etc). The third act is just one inversion after another: bad guy gets away, wife gets killed, hero leaves wife out of greed, sheriff figure doesn't catch bad guy.

April 14 MAROON & WHITE GAME WIN
Sept. 1 NORTHWESTERN STATE WIN
Sept. 8 CLEMSON LOSS
Sept. 15 LOUISIANA-MONROE WIN
Sept. 22 at Alabama LOSS
Sept. 29 vs. Arkansas (Arlington) TOSSUP
Oct. 6 KENTUCKY WIN
Oct. 13 at South Carolina TOSSUP
Oct. 20 Open Date WIN
Oct. 27 at Mississippi State TOSSUP
Nov. 3 at Auburn LOSS
Nov. 10 OLE MISS WIN
Nov. 17 UAB WIN
Nov. 24 LSU LOSSGoing to need to have no surprise wins to go over 7, and also lose all those tossup games. With that schedule it will be hard to get to 7+ but it would be funny.
Here's what you have to remember: even a 6-6 record, with losses to arky Chad (they're due) and one of the SC/MissSt, will have terrible optics after Sumlin consistently eeked out 8 win seasons. Couple that with an 8-9 win season in Austin, and the early signing period should be fun.

Let's hope for less than half a hundred this time. Biggest game of Tom's career.
Can't understate how important it is for Herman to be 2-0 heading into USC rolling into DKR. Should be a huge opportunity for the national perception of Herman and Texas.

Definitely look into the online offerings like Tuft & Needle, Casper, etc. We have a Tuft & Needle in our guest room and friends love it. Ironclad return policy.

Game-day atmosphere won't change overnight to be more fan/tradition-friendly, but I have faith in Del Conte to really act on fan feedback to improve the experience.

Looks to me like you've got one too many LBs and one too few DBs. I'm willing to bet we go base dime more often than not. Because Orlando is fucking nuts. Great, but nuts.
Adding another DB in the Dime/Lightning packages would include... Josh Thompson? Seems like he's ready to ball out this year. Ready for Overshown to be that lightning package tweener in a year or so.

- QB: Ehlinger

- TE: Brewer (if healthy)
- DL: Hager, Nelson, Charles O (+Graham)

Watson + Catalon and the rest of the 2019 DB class is gravy.
I could see Richardson visiting in the fall. I know Naviar is conceding nothing here, but Texas might want to give Aggy an opportunity to embarrass themselves on the field.
Just have that feeling we hear about a secret Richardson visit the Sunday after it happens this fall after the season starts gaining clarity. I like our chances with Naviar.

Wright is WAAAYYY further along in his development.
This staff's approach is next level everywhere. Do you know how big this kind of thing is with both recruits and parents? Not to mention the active roster and all that they are getting out of it. Killing it with truth. Selling Texas.
Night and day from previous tenures. Herman is exploiting every advantage UT and Austin provide. It's really something to behold.
Now go win.- 1

So, y'all might remember Bob Stoops from 2008 who didn't mind running up scores on opponents as a way to impress the poll voters and did what he could do to make sure the land thieves got into the national championship game. It worked for him, although the best team that year ended up in the Fiesta Bowl. Do you think Herman will do what it takes to make sure the Horns can impress Pollsters to get us in the playoffs? Or will he win respectfully? As you know, Mack was too nice to do that, but Stoops didn't have any problem. I don't think we'll have to worry about that this year, but starting in 2019, I fully expect us to competitive. Thoughts?

I really, really hope Herman can get this thing turned around on the field, because it's obvious (at least at this point) that he is damn near perfect for this job off of it.
We say it every damn year, but this year is *especially* critical to win 9+ and be in conference contention. With Riley at OU, Jimbo at aggy, a flailing O at LSU, a weak Big12 relative to last season, a huge DKR showcase against USC, and a intense focus on Year 2 of Herman's tenure, this year on the field could be the impetus to building a true playoff contender for the next decade. hyperbole.gif

It appears that Herman is finding a groove and an identity for how he wants to recruit at Texas, and it's a pretty good moat against negative recruiting and pitches from other programs. He's doing a few things that are really important:
- Identifying players that they absolutely do not want and playing a role in directing them elsewhere. Others do this, but he's doing it as a fired volley in order to actually pursue similar players that UT covets.
- Identifying players that are the highest priority and building a full pitch to each of them in a bespoke manner, based on legitimate personal research. Some of the analysts get this started on freshman and sophomore players. It's one thing to talk up Austin or tradition or show hot girls on campus, it's another to introduce players to professors from fields in which they've expressed interest, to put together a suite of high quality unique graphics, or show film of specific opportunities/issues with current talent and juxtapose/compare that to the recruit's role in the same situation.
- Going with the "I don't have a game" approach, which is the greatest game to play. Offering up total transparency around where recruits would fit on the depth chart is one thing, telling them where they fit on the recruiting board when they're not number 1 is another. Involving the parents and walking everyone through statistics about percentage of players who make the NFL vs. enter the work force, and then comparing that to other schools and average salaries, etc. Showing them that Billy Sims has been homeless in the not too distant past and that Earl Campbell still gets paid a salary is quite a contrast.
With Saban and Swinney around, he's not unique in being thorough, but it is a difference compared to other staffs directly east in BCS and Baton Rouge.
It also helps to establish relationships with trainers, 7x7 crews, uncles, etc., given that this is college football at this point.
Good stuff, ctj, per usual. Thanks for taking the time, yada yada, etc.

I struggle with films that are technically wrong, like "Whiplash". It was "Rocky" set at UNT. Too many errors and inconsistencies.
The problem is, I only know what I know, so it's hard for me to judge certain films like "The Hurt Locker".
What I consider to be truly GREAT films are often smaller productions with deeply developed characters who actually interact with each other ("Tender Mercies"), or perhaps experience such beyond-normal situations that it's possible to suspend disbelief ("Into The West"). I don't see many of those being made these days. "Boyhood" would qualify. "Phantom Thread" almost got there, but fell short, despite Daniel Day Lewis' typical A+ performance.
It's why it's hard to quantify "great" films since 2000 in the vein of big 90s period pieces like Schindler's List or Saving Private Ryan or Shawshank, when so many are intentionally smaller in scope character pieces. Movies I thought were tremendous but smaller in scope like The Florida Project, Wind River, Take Shelter, Frances Ha, Y Tu Mama Tambien. Intense character study films have had a great post-2000s run.
