  1. I just wonder if the douche factor has led Sark to move on with Murphy in the bag. Sounds like Sark isn’t real interested in getting Quinn back in the fold.

Could that also be due to the interest from Manning?

  2. Buddy of mine was with his son at the elite eleven in Dallas this past weekend. His son is a receiver and was with the group that included Ewers and Klubnik.
His impression was that Ewers had a great arm but seemed very aloof and would not talk or engage with anyone there. All the other top QBs that were there would joke around and mess with one another like high school kids would do but Quinn did not even try to talk with anyone.

In his mind Quinn seemed like all this was beneath him and he was just too good to try and make any friends. Who knows, we may have dodged a bullet if he turns into a primadona.

Personally, I don't believe that Saban would give Sark the okay to be announced as our new HC until after Alabama's season is over. I think Saban would tell him to keep it hush hush.

I agree. This does not seem to make sense timing wise.

Once Herman is fired, it'll be a week minimum before press conference announcing new the coach.  Public state job has to be posed for a minimum amount of time before being officially filled.  Not sure exactly how long, but there will be no press conference anytime soon announcing Meyer or anyone else on 1/4.  You could very well start to hear rumblings and be pretty confident it is happening fairly soon after termination, but nothing official this quickly.

But firing Herman and having all the media speculation and talking about Meyer in particular if indeed he is on board leading up to the title game would still be beneficial publicity.   On the flip side, you don't want stories about how Meyer turned us down again, and then Campbell did too because he loves the midwest, and UT had to settle for it's 3rd or 4th choice.    So if Herman is fired today, we have a firm yes from someone already in my opinion.   Now it might in actuality be our 3rd choice, and we might give Meyer one last chance quietly circling back before finalizing a deal with someone else.  But having waited this long before firing him has to mean that they will have some new coach everyone is comfortable hiring  that has agreed to come.   And that fits the narrative that came out from the 9.95ers the other day as well.  We'll see.  Hope the axe falls today, but not holding my breath.

There are special exemptions for that and a head football coach is one of those.

You must've played in the 80's, too, bc that's what I was taught.

Nowadays, the safest tackling is more rugby-style. The Seahawks, among others, have been teaching it for years.

Hell, ten years ago I was still coaching Texas HS kids to “plant your screws” on an app owners chest, meaning put the two crews at the top of the face mask into the other guys chest for face to face tackling. We also drilled getting your “head across the bow” over and over for angle tackling.  The don’t get their head in front of the runner anymore on angled tackles and you see far more arm tackles being run through now.

    Certainly a possibility.

I will say, literally everything I have ever seen, heard, or read (mainly his book Above the Line) about the man leads me to believe that he would get started immediately and try to get Ewers in the fold.  The idea that he'd let Ewers go to Ohio State when he has a decent shot of getting him on his team is just not at all consistent with who I think he is.  He could take the job without taking any assistants with him, and just recruit before NSD1.

I mean, how much do you really want a coach that has so little dedication to your program that he'll let one of the highest rated QBs in recruiting services history go to Ohio State, because he likes them or cares about his legacy or whatever?  If a coach was trying to pull that bullshit when getting hired by OSU, I would be deeply unhappy.

He has an entire year to get Ewers in line.  he is a 22 kid, not 21.
