Can you use words that us Aggies don't have to look up? We don't have a big fancy med school like you guys. Our English department was replaced by Ovine  Sciences, so we're doubly screwed

He believes your beer urine sample has blood in it, like a lot. See your urologist.

  2. Heading to Big Sky in July with the family (wife and two teenage daughters). We'll be up there for seven days. We plan to hit Yellowstone for two days, white water raft one day and possibly hit up Virginia/Nevada city. I'd like to get away on a fly fishing excursion, any other suggestions of sights or things to do as we probably won't be back. Dinning recommendations also appreciated.

Are you telling us that the da office reviews all of the body cam footage from all officers daily to look for charges?  Because I don’t believe that.

I'm not saying that. I've passed on a direct conversation with my local sheriff. Per his own words, the cameras are to be on whenever they respond to a call. Video is recorded and uploaded that same day. How the video is sync'd with a case, I have no idea. I do know that the sheriff stated that the policy coming down from the D.A. was record each incident and they would prosecute to the fullest extent they could. The take away is, the days of skating by with a warning are fading fast.

All cops that I know want to wear them.

You have departments that don't want to pay for them, however.

The body cams are definitely an interesting topic. I was speaking with our neighborhood sheriff (Harris county), who was initially in favor of them. That said, after wearing them in the field for the last couple of months his opinion has changed. He does feel that they are a positive in regards to a "CYA" device. The negatives he brought up included the time (his time, i.e. Not paid to download the encrypted video) he checks in after the shift but can't leave until the body cam downloads, which can take up to an hour depending on the size of the file, longer if there are some issues in syncing. The other interesting point he spoke about was in regards to how every interaction was recorded. Back in the day when "we" we're in high school and a cop caught us drinking or doing something "stupid" and busted us, a drop off at the house by the sheriff usually was the end of it, the parents handled the punishment. Now, with the body cams everything is recorded and per the instructions of the D.A, prosecuted to the highest charge applicable.

    I can see both sides.

  5. And here I was hoping for a dry weekend in New Orleans for my kids volleyball tournament.

100th post edit......it's 9:58 and ou still sucks

  6. Has there been issues when using Venmo? I believe it's tied to an actual bank account or debit card. Almost monthly I ship large boxes/packages via UPS ground and enter the weight and dimensions into their web portal to create a shipping label and get the costs associated. Through venmo, charge what you would for the speakers and the shipping costs, once you receive the money via venmo drop off the package with UPS.

In regards to the estimated shipping costs, on occasion I've had UPS come back and try and bill me at a higher rate, stating that the dimensions I had entered were off when the did a "random" check. I've contested each one and had them dismissed each time. I always round up to the nearest inch on the dims.

If your kid is serious about playing sports further than HS I dont think there is a single sport other than football where colleges recruit HS players vs club players.

This is true. Times have definitely changed from when I was in high school (late 80's). Back then almost all recruiting was done via your high school team. Now, outside of football, all of the elite athletes focus a majority of their time with their club team and very little recruiting is done via the high school. I have a freshman volleyball player and she is already being scouted by college coaches through her club and some of the soccer tournaments my middle school daughter plays in has college coaches already evaluating players.

If it’s anything like it was when I was in high school, soccer is coached by which ever football assistant coach drew short straw.

I can speak for high school coaches in Houston, very few are football assistant coaches. I haven't come across a coach who either didn't play soccer or has a mid level coaches license.

  9. I'm a strong advocate for kids playing multiple sports vs trying to specialize in just one. I have two daughters who from an early age played year round soccer and participated in summer swim team. When they got into middle school, both excelled in all of their school sports (volleyball, basketball, cross country and track/field). One still plays nearly year round club soccer, and the other nearly year round volleyball. Both club sports break for the summer and they are back in the pool for summer swim team.

One thing we do to knock off the rust before either soccer/volleyball starts back up is to sign the girls up for a specialized camp/lessons. This allows them a break during the summer, but helps them get back to where they were skill wise before the season or tryouts start. I can't speak to baseball conditioning or drills, but with soccer it is as simple as getting 30 minutes of touches/agility drills in the back yard a couple times/wk to keep the foot eye coordination consistent.

Edit to add, that both still participate on their school teams during the club season (either track/field for the volleyball player or volleyball/basketball/track for the soccer player). We let them tell us when they lose interest in a sport or if they want to try something different.

I'm assuming that his bookkeeper job was just a hobby.  Surly he could support himself playing professional horseshoes.

The big money comes in from all the sponsors
