It may have been covered but I'm not reading 50 pages, but the last 40 seconds or so of the first half was bothersome to me. Wyoming had a 4th and 2 coming at roughly their 45 with a running clock, we had 2 timeouts left. I was expecting a timeout call as soon as the 3rd down play ended but it wasn't called. Wyoming kept the offense on the field and the coaches just stood their watching the time tick down, Wyoming called time as the play clock approached 0 and punted to end the half at 10-7.
To me that showed a lack of confidence in both the defense and the offense. Wyoming had no intention of running a play and Sark wouldn't call their bluff.
If they punt and pin us deep then congrats and we can run out the clock. If they punt poorly we have decent field position with 30ish seconds and a timeout. If they punt a returnable ball then give X a chance to make a play. If they run a play then make a stop and get great field position. And we were getting the ball to start the 3rd so it was a chance to get a couple unanswered scores and get some separation on the scoreboard. I'm not sure what Sark's thinking was there but it certainly wasn't All Gas No Brakes
Second this. Was concerned that they were going to take a shot at the end. Take the timeout and put the ball in the hands of your offense that can try and push it or just kneel it to end the half. Don’t give them a chance to get a “free” play. -
Let’s fucking go. Embarrass those assholes at home.

That’s a name that always makes me wonder “what if”
I think he could have been really good both junior and senior years.- 1

Some good comfort food. Venison chop steak in an onion and mushroom gravy. Good on a cold night.

So....anyone got a good processor in Austin? I have used Texas Sausage company on the E. side for years, but apparently, they have had a landlord issue, have moved out to Pflugerville, don't have their fridge yet, etc.
I have a cooler with a doe in it that I need to take somewhere today. I'm downtown. I'm thinking Hudson's - I haven't taken a deer there for at least 10 years, but as I recall, it was good enough. Any recommendations other than Hudson's? And if I go there, any recommendations for something good/new/different to have them make that Hudson's does well?
Thanks.
I've heard good things about Klein's in Pflugerville. I haven't taken a deer there yet, but I know of someone who has used them for years with no problems. They do make Andouille sausage as well.
Looks like they're open today until 6pm.

Gary Patterson, just to fuck with TCU
This is the correct answer. Would be fucking hilarious.

Was able to get in 3 hunts for the archery opener, but didn't see much. The rainfall the area received just before the start of the season has it looking like spring out there. Nothing is coming to the feeders.
I have a spot about 15' up in an oak tree that gives me a good view in every direction. Saw a nice, dark-horned 7 or 8 pointer from that spot a few weeks ago about 120 yards out...wouldn't mind getting a closer look at him. Wouldn't mind putting a doe in the freezer either.
Hopped into my treestand on Tuesday morning (which sits about 250 yards from my feeder), and I came away with some freezer filler.
With the sun coming up, I kept hearing what sounded like something busting up brush to my 3 o’clock. Caught a glimpse of a deer, and then a few minutes later, a small, velvet 7-8 point popped out about 60 yards in that direction. He disappeared, and again, I kept hearing some brush busting in that direction. I caught a glimpse of a deer about 30 yards out and coming towards me, and I grabbed my bow. As the deer came in to about 10 yards, I saw horns on his head, and he kept working to my 12 o’clock until he was directly in front of me at about 18 yards to beat up a bush. I drew back, and after having to squat down to get a shot underneath a couple of leaves, I released my arrow. The buck didn’t know what hit him. Blood started spurting out, and he ran about 20 yards down the hill before his ass fell out from under him and he toppled over. The bush he was beating up on is in the center of the photo below.
Helluva way to spend a Tuesday morning. Looking forward to sitting in that stand during the rut.

Know nothing about how kickers are coached but reading the NYT article it appears he was not coached at all at Texas..
All it took was one meeting to elevate. Blame Mack?
As much as we all enjoy blaming Mack, kickers aren't typically coached by anyone on staff, at least not at the college level. There are private kicking instructors that most elite kickers are going to starting early in high school and are coached by for the rest of their careers. That being said, a school with as much money as Texas should have an instructor on retainer.
One of the best things the Dallas Cowboys ever did from a special teams standpoint was hiring ex-kicker and instructor Chris Boniol to be an assistant special teams coach. He coached Dan Bailey when Bailey was one of the best kickers in the league.

Listened to the Eagles radio guys interview Dicker postgame. He got asked about big kicks in college prepping him for this moment, and he took the opportunity to mention his kick from 4 years ago this weekend when he also beat Kyler with a game-winner! Dude is an absolute baller.

Jeffcoat's strip sack TD of Geno Smith in that game was one of the loudest I've ever heard the stadium.
I was at the 2004 Okie State game as well as this one, and both were extremely loud. Underrated part of the Okie St game is that the old north end zone was still there, so there were only about 80,000 fans.
For WVU, I remember watching the strip sack happen and turning to my buddy sitting next to me, not two feet away. I couldn't hear him yelling over the crowd noise.

7 to 8 games out of how many?? That's a very low percentage overall.
This game was nothing more than 2 subpar teams playing regarded football. Like the Dolphins playing the Jets.
College is just an appetizer for the NFL in terms of talent and entertainment.
Fucking skinny chicks is just an appetizer for fucking fat chicks in terms of talent and entertainment
See how stupid that sounds? This is so tone deaf and a complete misunderstanding of what college football is. Embrace the chaos. Fuck off to the Cowboys thread.

Any suggestions for bars to watch the game tomorrow? We tried crown & anchor and haymaker for big 12 final, but both only had the game on on one tv and neither had sound ( although maybe that’s a plus given the announcers today?)
Posse East each and every time my dude

Crazy evening hunt. Had a yearling come in a little before 5. Around 5:20 a doe comes walking in. Glassed it real good because lots of nubbin bucks around. Slick head, not dark on the hind legs. Kind of scrawny and two tone color.
Told my girl to take it. Good shot, walks off 20 yards and piles up. Gather our stuff up and text our ride back to base camp.
Walk up and the damn thing has balls. WTH??? Check it's head and two bumps but not covered by skin. Freaking thing had shed both it's antlers. He was malnourished, fur was two colors because it had already started changing.
Biologist checked it's teeth back at camp and said it was a 2.5 year old. Testicles were small, no dark markings on hind legs, skin was thin and could see backbone.
Questioned about it possibly being sick but when processing the meat was a good color and nothing odd about it.
They are testing for CWD and other things on all the deer harvested so when I get results (about 4 weeks) I'll know for sure if anything is wrong.
Back at it in the morning to see if she can go 3 for 3.
Had that happen a few years back on Thanksgiving weekend, and I was bowhunting, so even up close that’s hard to see. Still eats good though.

Congrats! That’s a great buck. It changes the game once you get your first one with a bow, you get addicted to doing that all the time. I hardly gun hunt anymore unless I absolutely need to put one in the freezer on a given day. It’s also incredible how resilient whitetails can be. That will to live kicks in and they’ll go on forever.
I got a doe on Saturday morning and hit her probably an inch or two more forward than you did, and she only went 50 yards. Sometimes you just don’t know how far they’ll go, even with a solid hit.

Received my booster yesterday (Pfizer) after getting J&J back in March. So easy to schedule on the CVS website. Surprisingly, no side effects other than a sore arm and a kind of spacey feeling in my head, and this is after I felt like death post-J&J. I was also dreading it because my fiancé got her third Pfizer shot last Tuesday and is just now recovered from a delayed allergic reaction as well as going through the fever/sore throat routine.

This is so bad ass. To this day, I remember from my hunter's safety class the progression of a hunter / conservationist. I have a good friend who I've put on his first deer then put his son on his first pig. May do the same with another friend this winter. Both times, I had way more fun than shooting myself. And, I love drinking a few beers while watching them gut and skin their first animal. That "Sportsman" stage is definitely where I am right now. But, I kind of skipped the "Method" stage.
On that note, my son (almost 14) is showing lots of interest in learning to shoot a bow. We stopped at Los Cazadores this weekend, and I'm thinking about an entry level Elite Ember for him to start with as a Christmas / birthday present this year. Anyone have experience with this one? The biggest factor for me (other than not dropping $2K on a kid's Chirstmas gift) is the turnkey nature and wide range of adjustability in draw length and weight as he matures. I have zero bow hunting experience but may snag one for myself so we can learn together. If I do pull the trigger for myself, I was thinking of a Hoyt RX-5. I need to go shoot what they have at LC I guess to see what I'm most comfortable with, but I really liked the way that one looks and the reviews were solid.
I've heard good things about it, and Elite makes solid bows. The range of draw length and weight is important since he's growing, but you don't want to skimp on quality either. That's a bow he'll have for awhile.
If you decide you want to grab one, shoot every brand/bow they have available in the shop. 2022 bows will be coming out soon as well (even if they aren't radically different from this year's selection), so something to consider. You might surprise yourself with the bow you end up with by trying out everything they have to offer, unless you're dead set on the RX-5.
