  1. I've gone bow hunting a few times this year with no luck, but work and social life has been a beast all of October thus limiting my opportunities to go. There is something magical about the general season opener, though. I have a submittal due on Monday, so of course I'm sitting here in the office like a fucking bum instead of taking advantage of the wonderful weather. Good luck fellas!

  2. Still a little too hot out for it, but trying to empty the freezer before the bow opener for whitetail.

Came out absolutely perfect this time, think I’ve perfected how I like to do chili. Fuck them beans.

I really need to get my butt down to the lease and get to work.  Haven’t been able to make the time lately, but need to make it a priority. This thread might be the kick in the ass I needed.

I feel you on that. I haven't been out to our lease since late spring for Turkey and hog hunting due to travel and work. Dad was able to make it out last weekend to get feeders running, I'm gonna head out sometime in the next week to top off feeders and check his camera for activity. Bow opener will be here before you know it.

    You serious, Clark?

Seriously. He has the voice and is a good enough play-by-play caller. He may not have Verne's "charm", for lack of a better word, but he's done a good job thus far on CBS. I'm also biased from hearing him on the NCAA Football game before it got axed, so maybe a bit of nostalgia, even if he never actually called a game with Kirk. Am I missing something here? I've never seen him mentioned as an announcer people disliked.

  5. i honestly cant think of a single negative about leaving, except no more gus johnson.

Agree on this, his style made for some great calls. But the prospect of getting Brad Nessler on the call is a good one, even if he’s matched up with that jackass Gary Danielson. Idk why ESPN didn’t put Nessler up in the booth with Herbstreit when Musberger left. Fowler just doesn’t have “it” imo.

  6. First football game was 1996 against New Mexico State at 4 years old. Don’t remember any of it, but pictures say I was there. The first one I remember was the 1999 debacle against NC State. My mom had to explain to 3 kids (my older sisters were also there) as to why Texas lost, and it was years later that I figured out it was due to special teams fuckery. Fun times.

That happens at The Open, when there is no rain, little wind and the course isn't brown from no rain/watering.
Looking at the forecast, all they can do is stop watering and let it dry out over the next 3 days; but we could be looking at 18-20 under winning this thing.

And no one is going to freak out about it if it happens. There may be some naysaying about not letting the course dry out, but the gnashing of teeth that usually happens with the US Open won't happen here. That probably speaks more to the USGA being absolutely regarded when it comes to the US Open (at least the way they revere par), even though they do a pretty good job of organizing so many other championships.

  8. Another vote here for a 20 with a single shell in it. Dad started me off with a Savage single shot bolt action .410. Great rabbit killing gun...made for expensive dove breasts though.

Gramps got me a Mossberg 20 gauge with an adjustable choke at age 12 or so, and I still use that gun today.

  9. Pretty much same.  I had the same glove from 8th grade until it was stolen with my car while studying for the bar.  It was a Nokona, great glove.
Some time after, I needed a glove for lawyer/beer league and decided to buy a nice one and started looking at heart o the hides.
I became aware that they are now selling gloves made of "kip" leather that is lighter and breaks in a lot faster than the heart o the hide types. And also doesn't last nearly as long.
A "tan" glove in kip is a lot lighter in color than an old school tan glove.  Pretty sure that's what you see our guys and pros using mostly.

Not to derail the thread, but if you ever find yourself in Nocona, TX, the glove factory is worth a tour before you hop over to the brewery right across the way. Cool to see the glove making process. Might spend a car payment on a Nokona glove, but you’ll never need another one.

  10. Holy shit.

healthy 20 year old dies, and it’s not suspicious. Really narrows things down.

Was thinking this as well. The way it’s framed lends itself to one explanation. Thoughts and prayers for the Sam and his mother, this is terrible.

  11. Going to resurrect this thread for my own needs. We moved into an 1100 sf, 2-story condo/townhome back in December. One of the things we're planning on replacing sooner than later is the HVAC. Both electric heater and AC are about 20 years old, and we want to get ahead of the AC before it shits out on us in the heat of summer. Couple of things:

    1) The ductwork is older and does not have a splitter in it, so all of the air hits the top floor first and whatever is left over goes to the bottom floor (ductwork and interior unit are located in the attic). Made for a chilly downstairs in winter, but we're not sure how it'll be come summertime (I know heat rises blah blah). That's something we'd like to get fixed with this. How much of a pain is this going to be to do correctly/how much is this going to cost/is it even feasible to do?

    2) Anybody have any recs in the Austin area for a good HVAC company?

    3) Anything else I need to consider before moving forward?

  12. Went out to the lease this past weekend to prep for Total Archery Challenge this coming weekend and to do some hog hunting. We were able to put a stalk on a group at one end if the property, and Dad got it done.

Great shot by him at night with iron sights. Cool as shit that he got to do it with his M1 and interesting to see what ball ammo does to a pig head. He’s excited as hell to cook this guy up. We’ve had pretty good luck in killing pigs that don’t smell like shit.

  13. Today will be interesting with a lot of the big guys going home early. The biggest names on that leaderboard are Rose, JT and Spieth. They have a some skins on the wall while the rest of the leaderboard has a lot of potential, whether it be guys who have made a steady living on the PGA tour or young guys who lack experience but are hungry, talented golfers. We’ll see who outside of Rose, Spieth and JT can make the jump and really contend.

If Si Woo Kim can avoid being a psycho again today, I think he has a chance to make some noise.
