The only TV series I can think of where the writer knew for sure (and presented it as a 4 year story arc) was J Michael Strazynski  in Babylon 5, and even though he wrapped up a few story lines in season 4, he still needed (and got) a 5th season (with a different network) to wrap up most of the loose ends.

Actually, B5 was originally scripted to be a 5 year story arc. When it looked like Primetime Entertainment was going to go belly up JMS wrapped up the primary story line in 4 seasons. When TNT picked up B5 for the 5th year JMS used that season to cover the aftermath of the war and the power vacuum that was created.

Does anyone remember a show or movie in which there’s a bomber coming home with damage that was preventing the landing gear to deploy, and the bellygunner from getting out?

most of it was them trying to get him out or get the gear down, then when it looks like they will have to land on the belly with him still down there, he takes out a sketch pad and draws the plane with a cartoonish wheel deployed, and then on the real plane a cartoon wheel comes down and they land safely?

something I remember seeing as a kid in the 80s, no idea how old or new it would have been. Black and white but that may have been a choice.

that was an episode of Spielberg's Amazing Stories (1985)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as long as you met the "good-faith" threshold rules for withholding based on your prior year's tax bill, there should not be a penalty if you now owe on 4/15 for 2018.

Uncle Sam doesn't care unless you ratcheted your withholding down and rode the cash flow.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your situation, but owing on 4/15 isn't something that gets you penalized unless you withheld even less than your prior year's total.  If you withheld the same amount and made more or experienced a bracket shift - that's what you do on 4/15....write a check.

they withheld less money (~3000) from my pay check this year compared to last year so i'm unlikely to meet the "good faith"  threshold.

the IRS finally have the 2018 forms up on the website so i'll be doing the first pass tax calculations this weekend. maybe it won't be as bad

as i expect but it will be close.
