These analysts just get so focused on one thing. Drafts in a natural cycle have deep years and shallow years. It’s been unnatural since Covid, the changes in redshirting, the portal, NIL, super seniors, etc. it will take a year or two. The NFL needs to rethink its policies as well regarding draft eligibility in light of NIL. The NCAA needs to change its policies as well. Why is it ok to play pro baseball but come back and play football in college? Kids should be allowed to enter the draft and see where they end up and if it sucks be able to return to CFB with their remaining eligibility. Call it the draft portal and if they don’t like the results they can return to CFB at a school that will take them. The loss of eligibility should be at signing of a contract.

In this scenario, how would you avoid the total loss of the drafting team's pick if the player won't sign?

  2. I suppose the one good thing about our guys going to Carolina is knowing they'll get some early touches. Whether or not those lead to positive yardage is of course yet to be determined.

That’s terrible for Brooks. Team is a mess with zero oline. A jockey sized qb. And an owner who is an absolute piece of shit. They have facilities on the level of an HBCU. Worst place to play in the league.

He needs to stay on the sidelines until he's fully rehabbed. And by that I mean until his rookie contract's up.

This is a very interesting topic, appreciate the spreadsheet work.

Noticing how none of the 1st round WRs were 5 stars, I wonder how “valuable” a 5 star at one position will likely be versus another position.  For example, is a 5-star WR more likely to be a first round pick than a 5-star DL?  I am too busy (lazy) at the moment to do a deep dive, but a cursory look back at the 5 star WR rankings is kind of shocking.

In 2021, for example, the industry ranked WRs in the top-40 were: Emeka Egbuka (OSU), JaCorey Brooks (Bama), Mario Williams (lol), and Agiye Hall (lolol).

In 2020: Julian Fleming (OSU), Demond Demas (lol), J Smith-Njigba (OSU), Kayshon Boutte (LSU), Rakim Jarrett (Maryland) and Jordan Johnson (ND).

Draft status isn’t the be-all-end-all of player productivity, but only JSN was a first round pick and arguably a ++ player.

The higher the maintenance, the greater the risk of never taking a checkered flag. Not sure about all these guys, but at a minimum we know Hall, Demas and Boutte flashed a lot of "check engine" warnings.

like does the NFL force these guys to say every pick is great, every guy is a great fit and will be a great player

Warner didn't come across as thinking Caleb Williams would be all that unless he ditches his hero ball mindset.

Goddamnit, every highlight of Penix on NFL Network was against us in the Sugar Bowl.

We made that dude some money. He should send us a check for future NIL.

Let's see if Yordan can nail a 500 footer into the stands, and that be the spark that ignites a fire in this team that burns until they win the World Series in November!

Even if Yordan hit a monster shot over the wall, I'd half expect the Rockies' version of Bob Beamon to leap into the stands and catch it.
