  1. If your PC screen resolution is at 1080p and you watch a 4k video on Youtube, are you really seeing 4k or is it maxed at the screen resolution you've set?

Asking because my HTPC is set to 1080p on a 4k TV.  Do I need to invest in a more robust video card?

Or, build a Plex server and let the TV deal with the resolution?

  2. Friend took Prozac and Viagra at the same time.  Told me he could go all night!  He was in his late 30's.

He had a heart attack and died!

I acknowledge that he only played with King Crimson sparingly over the years, and with all due respect to many fine drummers we've discussed in this forum over the years, but Bill Bruford is maybe the most criminally underrated drummer of all time.

    I was there.

  4. The Police - Regatta De Blanc

Brings back a UT memory.  I was camping out all night at the Erwin Center to get tickets for the Ghost In The Machine tour.  Had to shit really bad.  Walked west down into Waller Creek, took the shit, left the underwear.  CSB

  5. Dropped those cocksuckers (Spectrum) two years ago and went Google Fiber with YoutubeTV.  No problems.  At the same time I dropped our 30 year old AT&T home phone account and ported to a $10 box Google offered.  No problems and sound quality is equal to the old land line.

Honestly for what I do, I don't see a big difference in 200mb down to 1,000mb down.

Still wondering who sucked more, Spectrum or AT&T?  I hope to never deal with either again!

  6. I've been using a PC in the living room to store and watch stuff.  i.e. using the TV as a big monitor.

Time to clean up the living room and stream my stuff across the home network.  Looks like Plex is the 500 pound gorilla?

I don't like metadata, don't want to see graphic and crap.  Can Plex, or another, display drive contents like Windows Explorer?  Lines of file titles instead of art?

  7. Anyone collect old Texas license plates?

I remember dad pulling these off the wall of my great-grandfather's garage when they were cleaning out his house.

  8. Need help on finding a Media Player app.  Roku or Samsung

Currently I have a PC connected to the TV, so I use Windows Explorer in "Details" mode to choose my media.  Wanting to remove PC from living room and stream from a server.

Wanting to find a player app that looks like the "Details" look of Windows Explorer.  Don't want thumbnails of the media.  Also, I don't care about meta data.  Can't read the fan art anyway.  All the Plex, Jellyfin, etc. I've seen shows thumbnails?

  9. Mom died.  Dad died 20 years ago.

Found her SPJST Whole Life policy where I'm listed second as beneficiary is case dad's dead.  I emailed SPJST the policy info and got "her policy is out of force".  When asking what that means, nothing but crickets.

    What could it mean?
