  1. Recency bias yes, but this was one of my favorite movies I've ever seen in theaters. I have no idea if it will have as much re-watch value, but I thought the story was fun, there were a lot of hysterical moments and it's stylistically one of the most unique movies I've ever seen. I absolutely loved this movie. I got out of the theater an hour and a half ago and I'm still buzzing.

  2. I binged Sunderland 'Til I Die over the past two days and really liked it. Most sports documentary series are on championship caliber teams or at least teams that are good. I've never seen one featuring a team during its worst season ever and found it thoroughly and utterly fascinating. I came out of it hoping Sunderland makes it back to the EPL at some point. Really good watch.

If you can recruit to fucking Fargo, you can sure as shit get guys to come to Manhattan, KS.  By the game up there in 2020 against those guys, we'll already be back in deep shit versus the Wildcats.

Recruiting kids to Fargo to win national championships and recruiting kids to Manhattan to maybe compete for a Big 12 title once a decade are two different things.

Atlanta has certainly made full use of Designated Players but its total payroll for 2018 was a relatively modest $11.3 million (9th in the league).  Toronto blew the rest of the league away with a total payroll of $26.2 million, almost $9 million more than LA Galaxy in second place at $17.5 million.  Meanwhile, 13 teams in the league (including Dallas at $9.3 and Houston at $5.7) had total payrolls of less than $10 million.

The league wants more payroll compression among its teams.  Simply eliminating one DP slot will drop Toronto's payroll from 4.7x Houston to 3.5x Houston.

It is underrated how Atlanta built the roster around the high profile DP signings. Certainly having arguably the best player in the league (Almiron) and the single season scoring leader on the roster gives you wiggle room, but Eales and Bocanegra did a great job filling the roster in.

It's nice to have Almiron's replacement already in the mix and that's where the commitment to spending is a massive benefit. I'm more concerned about the eventual replacement for Parkhurst (35 next year) and Larentowicz (36 next August). Tata found ways to reinvigorate those guys in the tail ends of their careers. Those guys were unbelievably valuable this year.

Check out the box score for set 2 of Minnesota - Oregon. Oregon won it 41-39. That had to be intense.

Oregon fought off nine set points. At 38-37 Minnesota thought they won the set, but Oregon challenged it and the officials ruled correctly that a dig had hit the ground. Oregon just won the third set to go up 2-1. Would be brutal for Minnesota to lose with the Final Four in Minneapolis this year.

  6. I binged Inside Jokes the last two days and liked it. It's a six episode (hour long each) documentary series and seven comedians auditioning for the new faces showcase at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. I think they did a great job telling the stories of each comedian to give you a reason to care about all of them. Recommended for any fans of stand up.

  7. I totally get this is a pretty big who gives a shit job, but Austin Peay was one of the worst programs in FCS before Healy took over and they got snubbed for a playoff spot last year. It'll be interesting to see if can build an FBS resume and be a name to watch for big jobs 5 years down the road.

Hoiberg isn't going back to college, he hates recruiting.

If he wants to be a head coach again he will. If he's fine being an assistant he'll stay in the NBA.

It would set such a horrible precedent. A 2-loss non-conference champion has no business in the playoff. I don’t give a shit about anything else.

If it happens the Big Ten, Pac-12 and Big 12 should just break off and form their own mini tournament because the committee is saying that they don't matter.

  10. Here is Texas' 3 point field goal percentage by game this season:

    E. Illinois - 32
    Arky - 32.3
    ULM - 24
    Citadel - 28.6
    UNC - 45.8
    Mich St - 26.5
    Radford- 18.5

To the surprise of nobody the Carolina game is an outlier. This was a bad three point shooting team last year. They're still a bad three point shooting team. They do nothing to create offense. This is an ongoing problem and if Del Conte doesn't give a shit then the program is going nowhere.

For me it is the league bias towards the new little darling  I and most fans don't like and also most of the fans I am sure are awesome but the ones I have met and talked to acted like complete bitches.

    Obnoxious is an understatement

That's unfortunate. Hopefully at some point you can make it down there for a game and hopefully people treat you well.

I will say I totally get the hate, but I will also say that the enthusiasm Atlanta has is organic and real and given our rep as a bad sports town at least people genuinely care about a team.

Portland vs Atlanta... God damnit this is the worst fucking outcome. Fuck both of these teams

Honestly curious, what's your beef with Atlanta? How obnoxiously excited our fans are about the team?

  13. It's fine. Not the best choice but he's a good coach. The bigger thing is why did it take this long to make it happen? There never appeared to be a second choice so why did they waste a year of roster development and end up hiring the safe, predictable choice?
