Which one died? What did you replace it with?

It was a 15 year old Hitachi that was still kicking.

Bought a Bosch 1617EVSPK, all the guys at Rockler personally used it too and liked it a lot.  I'm really impressed with the smoothness and quietness of it

My CNC had similar issues - they are hell on routers and bits. I went through a lot of bits and 2 routers and really didn't use it THAT much.

That being said, it was fun to watch it in action.

It was the one in my router table actually, the one in the XCarve is a Makita that seems to be pretty solid so far.

Anyone have a recommendation on good hole saws?  The Milwaukee ones I've been using forever are fine, but I'd like something a bit tougher

Biden administration plans to reclassify marijuana, easing restrictions nationwide

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration will take a historic step toward easing federal restrictions on cannabis, with plans to announce an interim rule soon reclassifying the drug for the first time since the Controlled Substances Act was enacted more than 50 years ago, four sources with knowledge of the decision tell NBC News.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is expected to approve an opinion by the Department of Health and Human Services that marijuana should be reclassified from the most strict Schedule I to the less stringent Schedule III, marking the first time that the U.S. government would acknowledge its potential medical benefits and begin studying them in earnest.

Attorney General Merrick Garland will submit the rescheduling proposal to the White House Office of Management and Budget as early as Tuesday afternoon, a source familiar with the timeline told NBC News.

The Justice Department "continues to work on this rule," a Biden administration official said. "We have no further comment at this time."

    What rescheduling means

Since 1971, marijuana has been in the same category as heroin, methamphetamines and LSD. Each substance under the Schedule I classification is defined as a drug with no accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Schedule III substances include Tylenol with codeine, steroids and testosterone.

By rescheduling cannabis, the drug would now be studied and researched to identify concrete medical benefits, opening the door for pharmaceutical companies to get involved with the sale and distribution of medical marijuana in states where it is legal.

For the $34 billion cannabis industry, the move would also eliminate significant tax burdens for businesses in states where the drug is legal, notably getting rid of the Internal Revenue Services code Section 280E which currently prohibits legal cannabis companies from deducting what would otherwise be ordinary business expenses.

The Department of Justice’s rescheduling decision could also help shrink the black market which has thrived despite legalization in states like New York and California and has undercut legal markets that are fiercely regulated and highly taxed.

No CR, but it's horseshit when presidents do this shit close to the election.  Should have done this day 1 in office.  I guess better late than never

What does the "P" stand for?

It's the logo of my wife's salon.  She has a pop up shop she always does and the women are always looking for gifts for their husbands.  Thought that could be representative to sell some of them.

I got the Odie's oil on all of them.  Turned out great if I do say so myself.

  3. Running an extra electrical outlet really isn't very difficult.  That's an expensive one off to get an electrician out for.  Ten minutes of youtube videos should be enough especially if their is an outlet on the other side of one of your walls

  4. Here they are in progress.  I'm about halfway done finishing them.  Just using some Odie's Oil, I've heard nothing but good things about it.  I'll take a pic once I'm done finishing them.

Lot of Aggies I know, but Texas is basically impossible to get into.  All but one of those kids would have chosen Texas if they didn't get CAP'd

I had some red oak for a few, bought some maple and ran through it, then went with Ash.  Ash seemed to work very well though it's a bit fibrous like the oak.

  5. I bought an X-carve, or really traded for it, 3 months or so ago and it's just been sitting there.  I finally had an idea for it.  My oldest son is graduating high school.  For all of his close friends I'm carving the college logo they are going to and some lines for traction plus their initials.  Outside of a bunch and starts and stops on getting good images for the design it's gone very well.

I'll put some pics up once I'm done, or get some time before then.

  6. Unless the players come out and say "we hate Espada he's the reason we're losing"  There is a literal zero chance he gets fired outside of gross insubordination.

Managers mean almost dick in baseball as long as they are doing the obvious things.  They can mean something if they are intuitive in the 50/50 situations.  But come on, Espada is doing pretty much what everyone wanted Dusty to do except the Meyers/Dubon issues.

Alvarez in the 2 hole (I think he fits the team better at 3 but it's mathematically the right move) - Check
He has zero choice but to play Abreu with that contract and every other manager in baseball would be in the same position.  But he isn't smashing in the top 5 all season - Check
He's getting guys spots.  when they need it but not really overplaying anyone that shouldn't play (outside of Abreu where he has no choice) - Check

What legitimately in his power do you want him to do?  Abreu is about to get benched.  They've been trying all kinds of guys at first.  We just don't have a backup there.  Dubon likely ends up being the guy and that would make the Astros a pretty formidable offense and defense if he plays well there which I think he would.

Our pitching woes are brutal.  Brent Strom is a golden god

I think you’re discounting Michelle Obama and Oprah. I travel and work in Europe, Africa, and Latin America a lot, and even people who don’t care about American pop culture know and usually admire those two ladies.

We’re probably both wrong, because there’s probably some Chinese or Indian superstar that we don’t know about who is known and beloved by many more people than any American pop star.

I actually tried to look and see about that.  Like was I missing someone.  But didn't find anyone that made sense.  But you are probably right about Chinese or Indian Star.  Sheer number of people knowing their fame would dwarf the US.  The global aspect of US celebrities is big though.  So a lot of those people also know Beyonce.  When I was in India last and people found out I was from Houston I got all kinds of Beyonce questions.  And that was a good while ago

I’m no pop culture maven, but off the top of my head I think the following probably are at least on the list if not ahead of Beyoncé. Certainly than flash-in-the-pan Caitlyn Clark.

Oprah - Not as worldwide as Beyonce.  Music trumps american TV

    Taylor Swift - Yes, probably

One or all of the Kardashians, including Jenner’s daughter.  - More American celebrities than world, but definitely world famous

Adele - Known?  Maybe, not more famous

Michelle Obama - No one gives a shit who our first ladies are outside of America.  Yes she's known because she transcended the role, but no.

It's probably Taylor then Beyonce.  All of those are solid entries but fall down a bit save for Taylor and Adele.  But Beyonce does have more Instagram followers, I'd say her music hits more age ranges and demographics, while Taylor's hits her demographic with a wrecking ball.

Why the actual fuck would I do that when I could take the full panel off and just put it back on after adding the horizontals lol. It’s not drywall it will just come off the hole sheet it’s just attached with fastening nails into the studs

Yeah, full panel off works as well.  Honestly didn't read the entire thread just skimmed.  I can see it's paneling, but figured there was a reason you couldn't take it off, otherwise seems really simple to just pull them off and go.  Still would cap it that way to make it work well

  10. Cut the wall, install boards horizontally in btw the vertical studs, nail the side back over.  A circular saw pull up with a shallow cut is probably the best option

I wouldn't do any other way, but I would bitch about it the entire time I was doing it.  It's just the best way and eliminates any issues.  Personally I'd install a partial 2X4 vertically, then cap it with the horizontal so you have plenty of support.  Costs 10 in wood to do it right.

  11. My wife makes a shit load of money and likes expensive stuff.  She also will trade stuff or buy used when she really wants something.  I never worry about her when it comes to stuff like that because she's earned it, and she doesn't just spend to spend.  She saves up money, will trade hair services (we own a salon), trade previous purchases or buy used.

    1.  This is my own fault, but I’ve been reading the comments in The Athletic and you just described every teams’ fans.

    2.  I also think Houston fans, in general, have some entitlement to generational trauma from 30 years of getting SO close but not winning a championship until the Rockets in 94.  The Oilers, in particular, are mostly to blame but also fuck the Mets, fuck Kevin Brown, fuck cocaine and the Celtics (frankly fuck Boston), etc.

All of this is true.  I even said all fans groups suck really.  I just liked thinking ours was above all of it, when I guess no one's fans are.

The Oilers were so special to me and caused generational trauma for sure.

also- yall are being silly. This is a good team w good team that has things going against them right now.
    we will be fine.

    Correct.

Some of y'all simply don't deserve this team.  Every time I see Astros fans get dragged for being little bitches I get pissed, then read this thread and realize our fans fucking suck.  Of course all fan groups suck when you get down to it.  The Astros can go 0-162 and I'll be disappointed but wouldn't lose a single second of sleep.  They have given me something I wanted my whole life and then got there 3 more times and did it again.  The Rangers spent ungodly amounts of money as did the Dodgers to get where they are right now.

No front office stays together more than a few years if they are successful.  It could have been the greatest culture on earth and Sig and Stearns would have left.  Luhnow might still be here, and I hate that he's not.  The Astros should have stuck with him like the Red Sox did with Cora.  And if the culture in the office was good they would have.  It wasn't.  It was cut throat and so Crane's hands were tied.  And honestly 80% of you would have done the same thing.  Personally I would have told the commissioner to pound sand.  He has only the authority the owners allow him to have.

I'm not asking people to pretend like better moves couldn't have been made, of course in hindsight that's true.  But ALL of you thought Abreu was at least the right signing.  Maybe not the best contract, but it was lauded EVERYWHERE, including here.  Same can be said for many of the moves.  Montero was ultimately a below market rate deal and had been outstanding the year before.  Even when they go and get Hader there is whining and bitching for getting the best closer in baseball.  The truth is if the team doesn't go 120-42 and sweep every Playoff series it isn't enough for some of you.  And it's a fucking beating to read.

  14. And I got that bug and went hard after it.  Painted the last coat on the top box late last night.  Then painted the wall, etc.  Got it all installed and cleaned up!  I'm pretty excited to be done with it.  I can start putting my closet back together now

Actually it's some extra insoles lol.  They work amazing in Jordan's and dunks.

  17. Not finished still a good amount to do, but sized it up and got the drawers and drawer fronts installed.

I built the top piece to go on as well.

Built the top shelving and above that will be my rack mount for my media server.

First coat of paint on, hope to have it all done by Friday.  Might get a bug up my ass and install the drawer pulls tonight

Nice. I've never built any cabinets, but may try to in some of our closets for practice. I watched the guy build ours for the kitchen and he made it look easy, but I'm sure it takes a while to learn the tricks.

Face frames and cabinets are one of the easiest things in wood working IMO.  Yeah you can make them look janky, but just take your time, don't rush it and you will do a good job.  Drawers add complexity as do doors, but even they aren't hard, just time consuming

  19. Almost done with my closet.  I redid it (up thread) a while back, but already had an IKEA cabinet that I didn't have time to replace back then and it worked.  The rest of the closet was all custom done.  With a replacement of the floor I had to take out the IKEA cabinet and no way it was going back in.

This is the bottom part, I'll be building a custom part up top with a rack mount for my server and APC I use to run my media throughout the house.  But I had to get this in first to know what space I had exactly to do it.

Still some work to do but not sure I have it in me today.  Need to install the drawers then set the drawer fronts and install drawer pulls

Long overdue project nearly finished. My original design for the island had these legs and skirting. I messed up and let the first walnut top I ordered sit unfinished for too long and it cupped. Just got this new one so I could finally finish all the details. It's a mix of poplar and soft maple so I'll be painting it. In hindsight I would have done it in walnut or white oak. Oh well, glad to be on the last few steps of this one.

    That looks fantastic!
