Also, since you have a car, do an afternoon/sunset cocktail and dinner at Lava Lava in Waikoloa.   It's a cool place.

    Get the tater tots.

    R.I.P. in peace.

‘Out Standing Ahi’ FTW, but pricey.

If I was to add Waipi'o Valley to your list and drop the National Park (we're going to devote a full day just to seeing the Park), would it all be do-able in one day?  (We'd be based out of Hilo in this particular instance.)

Yes, it’s possible but you could easily skip Puna if need be.  I’ve only been to the rim at Waipi’o Valley, so don’t know much of the time investment involved venturing down.

It was a brilliant marketing move for southwest.

they lose absolutely nothing from the policy, but gain good PR.

They lost me!  And a Surly poster above.  I guess they want to cater to Spirit Airline trash, I mean customers.

I will be going to Hilo this year to visit in-laws. Ughhhhhh

I am not being sarcastic. It will suck

My favorite restaurant on island is “Pineapples,” in downtown Hilo.  “Cafe 100” is a great place for a lunch plate.  Hilo Brewing is there and Kona’s Ola Brew has a satellite location there.   Be sure to see Akaka Falls north of town and the falls right in town to just up hill to the west from downtown.  The botanical garden north of town is great too.  Banyan Drive is worth a visit.  Also head down to Puna to see the recent lava flows and new beaches.  And of course the National Park.

Taking the fam at the end of May for 6 nights. Is it best to set up home base on the West side Kona area for the week? Or do you guys recommend staying a couple of nights on the East side near Volcanos National Park/Hilo?

I recommend most stays for trip around Waikoloa Beach area north of Kona with maybe one night near Volcano.

Guidebook (Big Island Revealed) strongly recommends renting a 4WD on the Big Island.  We haven't yet nailed down the exact attractions we want to visit (aside from Volcanoes NP and a helicopter tour), so I'm not sure at this point whether 4WD is really necessary.  Was wondering whether those who have visited the Big Island found 4WD to be necessary and/or helpful.

No, it’s not.  Green Sand beach at south point is about the only thing you would need it for, but probably violates rental agreement.  I parked and walked.  My friends caught a ride for free from locals.

  7. I am on Big Island as we speak!  Always great, but my favorite secret beaches have  been discovered.  Be wary flying Alaska due to Boeing issues.  Was supposed to fly out tomorrow.  Now it’s Wednesday.  Thankfully have family to stay with the extra days.

They don't seem to realize that Washington isn't, never has been, and never will be a destination job. Unless there's some personal ties, any coach would leave UW for a blue blood.

Have you fired Sark yet?  Now 0-3 vs. this non “blue blood.”

Is it true that Sark brought back his drinking buddy, cheat on his wife wingman Johnny Nansen?  If so, you are fucked.

The bluebloods are the eight most successful cfb programs. Have been for decades.

Most lists have y'all somewhere around #20, so I know the top can look a little fuzzy from there.

East coast bias.  Let’s compare national championships, playoff appearances, and Big 4 bowl appearances in the last 40 or 50 years.

Seems all of you want to base your opinion of Washington on a fucking stupid ass bowl game when our team is completely different. Washington has struggled with everyone and squeaked out multiple victories in a row. They are gonna get plowed if they make the playoffs when they play a real team.

Um, Sark.   You got a shit coach.  Washington crushes Texas this year if they meet.

    You sure about that Clark?

    Who the hell is Clark?

But yes, hall of shame.  All three have harshed my professional sports buzz and therefore are in my hall of shame.  I give KD a pass due to that burning in hell rotten scumbag David Stern murdering the ultra successful and popular Sonics to that tornado laden shithole trailer park OKC.

  12. Since this is sports, and the primary audience is sports fans,  Kobe, Shaq, and  Lebron automatically take a back seat to Jordan and Russell due to their un-loyalty, and therefore can never,  ever be considered  a great NBA player due to their franchise un-loyalty.  All three are in my sports hall of shame for that.

I will repeat what I always say — North Shore.  If you stay south you’ll be happy. Once you drive to the North Shore you will wish you had stayed there

Not this week….  South Shore is kicking the shit out of North Shore.  In the north are flash flood warnings and a closed Hanalei Bridge.

Looking at catching the Astros in Seattle this year. Early May or late September.  Is one better than the other weather wise?

Late September is better.  Especially if you want to do outdoor stuff or visit Mt. Rainier.  Plus in September you may also be able to add in a Seahawks, Huskies, or Sounders game as well.
