Any word on the 2 TCU decommits this morning? Was that expected?

Yeah, more or less.  It wasn't certain but Holiday seemed very likely to flip over the past week and apparently Gray has an uncle who is best friends with Samples at SMU.  The uncle connection and plus the fact that SMU puts up big numbers on offense and their top 2 WR's are graduating while our offense was stuck in the mud most of last season makes the flip to SMU not that surprising.  The kid has two years to prove himself, why not go somewhere where he can be the man and has a good veteran QB to throw him the ball.  Gray apparently still has to graduate in May to qualify though.

On the bright side, TCU signed two top 75 players for the first time in history and probably has by far the best O-line class they've signed since I've been following recruiting.  We also got two stud 4* DTs in Patrick Jenkins and Jaquaze Sorrells.  Sorrells signed with S. Carolina last year but didn't qualify.  He apparently is now qualified and can show up in January.  Between those two guys, we got the #253 player (#25 DT) from the 2020 class and the #157 (#14 DT) from the 2019 class.  Makes up a little for the 4* freshman from Ohio who got homesick this fall and went back to Ohio mid-semester.

Haven't been out to the Dickies Arena area but any good pregame spots? I know it is by the botanical gardens but haven't been there in a few years.

There are a ton of places in the W. 7th area near the new arena about a mile to a mile and a half from the arena.  Fred's, Rodeo Goat, La Familia, Chimy's, The Cork & Pig, Eddie V's and a bunch of other bars and restaurants.  Freds is solid for burgers and CFS.

Realign to 8-10 team conferences. Each conference champion gets a bid to the CFP + 4 at large births. Play 11 games, 2 OOC and round robin conference. Playoffs start the 2nd week of December. Top 2 seeds get a 1st round bye. Other 1st and 2nd round games are hosted at the higher seeds home field.

Also end all bowl affiliations with conferences.

The perfect number of teams for a conference is 9.  4 home and away games every year.  10 and 8 are a problem because of the uneven home/away schedules from year to year.  Plus, 9 gives you 4 OOC games so you can play your one tune up/body bag game and 3 hopefully competitive games against teams from other parts of the country.  14 team conferences are an abomination.

Because of the recruiting right?  Nebraska has always recruited Texas and still does.  10-15% max of the roster was Texas kids.  60-3 run had exactly 10% Texas kids.  So did all the teams before that, and all the teams after til now.  The move to B1G was a bad one, always has been, but it hasn't affected recruiting 10% of the roster from Texas.

Quality, not quantity.  One 3* last year out of 27 recruits.  Two 4*s for '18 out of 22 commits but one already transferred to a Texas school.  Three 3*s out of 23 total for '17.   None for '16.  And you guys supposed hired Riley at least in part because he had Texas recruiting connections.

Looks like his heel, which is in the air, is over the out of bounds line.  Looks like his toes, which are on the grass, are in bounds.

Yeah, he ain't power walking, heel to toe.  He's running on the ball of his foot and his toes.  But, it is what it is.  Just a tough way to lose after the euphoria in the stands after such an incredible effort.  A real kick in the nuts if there ever was one.  Anyway, Duggan is a baller and he's only going to get better.  It's just tough breaking into a league like the Big 12 as a freshman.  We only started one senior on defense too.  There is hope for the future.

TCU got fucked today.   No way you take that score of Duggan's off the board.   Has to be absolutely conclusive and it simply was not.

Taken by the TCU radio team sideline reporter immediately after the play.  I watched it 10 times on my DVR when I got home and I don't see how they overrule the guy running down the line right behind the play.  We still should've scored but geez between that, the Hunt hand catch and the false start saving them from an interception that would've iced the game, I'm not sure how I survived this one.  Great game but mentally and physically exhausting just being in the stands.

  7. Losing to KU isn't the end of the world, TCU and UT have both done it recently.  In fact, KU in Lawrence has always kind of given TCU problems.  Anyway, KU is much improved this season.  The only real ass kicking they've taken was by TCU and that was a revenge game after they beat us last season.  Gary usually wins revenge games.

Leaving the game now. Mama's was good, parked at Paschall HS for $20 and took the free shuttle. Boy loved Frog Alley: threw footballs into targets and played skee ball. He ran out with the Bleacher Creatures and loved that as well. They made him take off all orange and put on a TCU Jersey, which they gave him. I couldn't go out there with him because I'm wearing orange, but they had it organized and I found him easily after it was over.

Loved the stadium. Not corporate at all, and a good college atmosphere.

    Fire Tom Herman.

Running with the Bleacher Creatures was one of the highlights of my son's life as a kid.  It was a sad day when he first got too old to want me to run with him and then old enough to think it wasn't cool anymore.

Tonight in Fort Worth, the University of Texas will host its third annual Dan Jenkins Awards. Jenkins left us in March, and while it's great that UT has done this and houses some of his original manuscripts, his beloved TCU should do the same.

Mac is right and it's not often that I say that.  What the heck is UT doing with Dan's stuff and with an award named in his honor?  I mean, it's nice that they did this but it just seems a little out of place given his devotion to TCU.

If the OP thinks the kid can last until about an hour after the game ends, park at Doxology. It not, show up early, park close, and leave early in th fourth before exit traffic starts.

The shuttle keeps running during the game.  You don't have to wait until after the game to catch it.  If you leave at the beginning of the 4th quarter, there is is a good chance one will be waiting for you.  I think they run about 4 buses to and from Doxology.  I know I've seen at least 3 lined up in the parking lot.

  11. The fee shuttle from Doxology on Hulen is great.  If you come from McKinney you would just take I-35 to I-20 and take I-20 west to Hulen.  The church is about 3/4 a mile north.  Parking is free, shuttle is free and takes you right to the stadium.  University Baptist and University Christian Churches both have parking for $40 or $50 within a couple blocks of the stadium.  Paschal High School at Forest Park and Berry has cheaper parking ($20?) with a free shuttle about 1 mile from the stadium. As someone else said, if you get there early, there are plenty of people who will let you park in their yard pretty close in for between $30-50.

Whatever you do, if you are coming from Dallas or the northern burbs, don't take I-30 to University and go south to TCU.  Traffic will suck ass.  Same goes for after the game.  Avoid that route.  Take I-35 to Berry and go west toward TCU.

If you don't mind a little bit of a walk, my suggestion is park at Paschal, walk down to Dutch's and grab a burger, then walk across campus to the stadium and then take the kid to Frog Alley for some pregame bounce house and other kid oriented entertainment.  The walk through the campus from Dutch's is nice and the kid will love Frog Alley.

Nick Saban was on Jerry Glanville’s staff. I always thought Glanville got the short end of the stick from the fans, media and Bud. His Red Gun offense was superior to the Run N Shoot since it wasn’t 4 wides all the time and had TEs and FBs.

I was living in Houston when Glanville got fired and smoked his tires and fishtailed in front of the media when he drove away from the Oilers' HQ after he got fired.  I liked Glanville, he was a funny guy.

The glaring difference in the shades of blue catches my attention

Yeah, if a little college in Texas can match the helmets to the jerseys, you would think an NFL team could as well.

I'm not sure that hanging with WVU proves very much.

I'll give you that WVU isn't very good but they did beat NC St by 17 at a neutral site.  I don't know how good NC St is going to be this year but they were a 9 win team last season.  That tells me that WVU has a little something.  Maybe not much but a little.

Based on how both teams have performed so far, you'd have to think so.

KU looked good against BC and played well against WVU but they were awful on Saturday against a TCU team that was mad about losing to SMU.  I think they're much better than they showed in Fort Worth but I don't know how much better.

  16. TCU's offense is a work in progress.  We will know a lot more about it after SMU this weekend and KU the next.  Duggan is probably going to be the starter for the rest of the season unless he crashes and burns in those games.  He's got the arm, he just needs to take a breath and play with a little less adrenaline.  Our defense and our running game will be stout but we won't be able to rely completely on the run game in conference.  Duggan is going to have to make defenses pay for loading the box.  If he can, I think TCU is at worst the 3rd-4th best team in the conference and could be a contender.

If he's not up to the task, my guess is we go to Collins or Matthew Baldwin.  Delton is not going to be anything other than a change of pace guy who takes a series or two per game from here on out.

I'm skeptical that marketing themselves as "Dallas'" college football team will work. I hope it does though. If I still lived in Dallas, I'd much prefer to attend a game in Dallas that is exciting and well attended instead of going to Arlington for a Cowboys game. But college is tough when most fans already have a loyalty to one of the state's P-5 schools. The University of Tulsa has tried for years to market themselves as the "city's" team, but everyone is loyal to OU or OSU, or another big school if they aren't from here and didn't attend school here. Their best moves have been to play as many Thursday and Friday home games as possible. I try to support them when it doesn't conflict directly with an OSU game.

The Fort Worth's home team marketing strategy has had decent results for TCU.  I think it worked better when the tickets were cheaper back in the CUSA and MWC days.  It got lots of locals interested in going to games and it became kind of a family event for people in the neighborhood with no TCU connections.  At one point in time, you could get a family pack of 4 or more season tickets down around the goal line for about $12 per seat per game.  Then you could just let your kids run around loose like we did on Friday nights at the mall or the high school football game when I was a kid.  However, once we got in the Big 12, those deals went away and the prices for the cheapest seats for a single game went up to $75.  That, plus all of the games being on TV anyway (often with crappy start times), caused a lot of those people to quit attending.  They may still root for the Frogs and wear Frog gear but they watch the games from the air conditioned comfort of home.
