  1. The only reasonable solution is a scheduling alliance and pooling the media rights for purposes of negotiations.  Maybe even throw in a Pac vs. Big 12 bowl game and/or kick-off classic type game as part of the media package.

Reduce the conference games to a 8 game schedule (with one permanent rivalry game per team if we stay at 10).  Everyone plays 2 Pac-12 teams each year.  One early season game and one game later in the season like the SEC does.  It would work best if we had 12 teams but it's doable with 10.  To get to 12 we try to get Mizzou and Arkansas or Nebraska back.  I think Mizzou is doable, don't know about Arkansas or Nebraska but it's worth a try.  If we could get Mizzou back, I'd take just about anyone to fill the 12th spot.

  2. New east side boxes, club and loge seating will be ready in '19.  Minimal change to overall capacity -- maybe 1,500 seats total -- but a big increase in income to the school from the sale of the boxes and loge seats.  It should also even out the stadium which was kind of lopsided before.

Also, we are going to start selling beer at the baseball games.  It was previously only available in the club seating of football, basketball and baseball.  This is likely a test run for selling beer in the football stadium.  A no re-entry policy will be imposed for baseball now and I assume the same would apply for football in the future.  #TCUisnotachurchschool

What did Utah do besides have 2 great seasons and benefit from the 2002 Olympics building up their small stadium?  And their fanbase is confined to a small pocket around the SLC area where they are #2 in their own state.

I don't really think they're #2 in their own state.  Even if they were, they've been much more successful than BYU over the last 10-15 years.  Utah won 79 games in the last 8 years they were in the MWC, had two undefeated seasons, won two BCS bowl games including a win over Bama in the Sugar Bowl and regularly sell out a good sized stadium.  They earned a spot in a P5 league by winning. It also helped that they are the flagship state school in a state with a larger population than other states with P5 teams like Iowa, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska and West Virginia.  Utah has also proved they belong in the Pac-12 by finishing ranked in the AP top 25 in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

Michigan State's troubles (putting it lightly) should open the door for other programs to pick up some of the underrated Midwestern defensive guys that Dantonio's built the program on.

Michigan St is still recruiting fairly well.  Currently #20 in the nation and 4th in the Big 10 with 7 commits including two 4 stars.  Apparently, Johnson just liked TCU more.  I think the MSU 247 guys were pretty shocked they didn't get him though.

  5. Karter Johnson, DT from Ohio committed to TCU last night.   The kid is really impressive on film.  Very underrated.  A first step that reminds me of Daylon Mack but Johnson is listed as 6'3" 300 lbs.  and is much leaner than Mack   Johnson also pitches and plays first base for his high school team

I hate when we have to play them in Fort Worth because I can never find any god damn parking!

There's plenty of easily accessible (and free) parking on both Hulen and Berry if you're willing to take a shuttle bus (also free).  Also tons of parking at Paschal HS for $20 with a free shuttle or a one mile walk.  I told you guys all of the stuff you needed to know before the last game.  Even the best routes in and out of the stadium area.  Pay attention next time.

I think the main reason realignment talk has died down is because of the lack of impact from these contracts. Yes, there is a quiet period right now with no conferences publicly  exploring expansion, but maximizing TV contracts was the main driver for a lot of expansion, and its importance appears to have been way overblown.

The Big 10 and the secsecsec have dominated TV revenue for years now, giving the perception that the Pac, ACC, and Big 12 have been fighting for their lives. The fans were whipped into a frenzy thinking that their program had to relocate or be relegated to the dustbin of college football history.

The problem is that after all these years, the money really hasn't changed anything. The top teams are still the top teams, regardless of conference. All that Big 10 and secsecsec money hasn't elevated any of their mid to lower level teams, nor has it separated their top teams from the top teams of the "have not" conferences. It's obvious the importance of TV money is overblown, and not worth losing regional ties and rivalries.

Bingo.  Texas will always be Texas, OU will always be OU, USC will always be USC and Rutgers will always be Rutgers.  The biggest place the money will make a difference is between the G5 and P5 schools.  It is going to be very difficult for G5 schools to do what TCU and Utah have done.  UCF, UH, CSU and Cincy are all trying to spend their way into the P5 but I'm not sure it can be done anymore.

I see zero reason to believe "Jimbo will probably make it better eventually." He has a style mismatch, natural recruiting disadvantages, an aging and out of touch coaching staff, and a history of fading down the stretch that dovetails nicely with aggy's history of fading down the stretch.

    They should have hired Chad.

They also have boosters that are desperate to win.  See UGa for how that translates to success in recruiting.

  9. My kid is soaking up the Jimbo hype but he has some misunderstanding of A&M's place in the college football hierarchy because he thinks the Manziel years were the norm.  I had to do some research to set him straight.  Here is A&M's record versus the upper level Big 12 teams when the Ags played in the Big 12.

    UT 5-11

    OU 5-11

    Tech 6-10

    Neb. 3-5

    CU  3-5

    Mizzou 3-5

    KSU 5-5

    OSU 10-6

And that is the real reason they left the Big 12 (and TCU thanks God they did).

They may have made a bowl every year but it was because they beat up on Southland conference teams in OOC and Baylor, KU, ISU etc in conference.  Not a lot has changed since then if you look at their record versus the top half of the SEC.  Jimbo will probably make it better eventually but, as evidenced by his last season at FSU, he's not a miracle worker.

Looks like a steal. I don't really know much about him, is there a reason why Iowa/ISU weren't being considered?

Iowa and ISU wanted him, he just wasn't interested.  I think I read he didn't think the Iowa offensive scheme matched his skill set.  There was also some speculation that TCU being in the CWS so often recently had some influence on him since he's from Council Bluffs which is basically a suburb of Omaha and he's also a baseball player.  That may have helped get the Frogs' foot in the door due to name recognition.

Duggan was a target for Iowa and Iowa State. But the in-state programs have been thought to be the underdogs for the past several months.

Or, put another way: Hawkeyes and Cyclones coaches aren't kicking themselves too hard right now. Of course they would have loved to land Duggan. But, at this point, that didn't seem realistic.

Minnesota was probably the biggest competition.  He was PJ Fleck's primary target for the entire class -- the guy they were going to build their class around.  Fleck was all in on recruiting him.  The Gopher fans are crushed.  He was supposedly Kelly's top QB target for Notre Dame as well.  So much that ND probably won't take a 2019 QB (they got a big commit from a 2020 QB yesterday).

  11. He should fill Travin Howard's spot fairly well for a season if he picks up the defensive playbook quickly.  98 tackles, including 18 for loss, and had five interceptions and five forced fumbles for NIU.

  12. This is an interesting development. B1G Network will not be available on Comcast outside of B1G home market states.  That means no B1G Network in NYC.  Maybe the TV guys are figuring out that interest in college sports is largely regional.

I saw the kid at a 7-11 in Allen 5 years ago and i was too slow on the draw with the phone as he was standing at the door on the way out next to the colored ruler used by the staff to guess the height of robbers.   With a close fro and thick hightops he scraped 5'10".  Scraped.  Barely.  I think he's 5'9".

He might even be 5'8 1/2".  The dude is small.  Boykin measured 6' even at the combine and TCU listed him as 6'2" on the roster.  I think Murray is a good 3 inches shorter than Boykin.

I was at lunch with some customers in Canton a few years ago. Two of them were young guys in their 20's. They asked me a billion questions about Austin. It was like we were in a post-apocalyptic movie and I was visiting from the utopian safe zone that required a journey through a zombie infested wasteland to reach.

I told them they had really good skill sets and could easily find work in Austin. Why not move? Their attitudes were very fatalistic, people born in Canton were meant to live in Canton, they said. They did say they would love to visit Austin one day.

    Shit was just sad.

Probably too scared of the Mexican to move down here.  The fact that brown people are showing up in the midwest now is what has everyone up there freaked out.

  15. TCU lands one of the top grad transfers in the nation - Juwuan Johnson, LB from NIU.   Top LB grade in FBS last year by Pro Football Weekily.

Johnson recorded 98 tackles, including 18 for loss, and had five interceptions and five forced fumbles for NIU. He tied for the MAC lead in forced fumbles and tied for second in interceptions while ranking fourth in tackles for loss. Born in East St. Louis, Illinois, Johnson played high school football in Texas and wanted to play his final season closer to his family. After deciding to leave Northern Illinois, he reached out to TCU cornerback Jeff Gladney, a high school teammate, who connected him to the Frogs coaches.

"TCU was my dream school," he said. "I had moved to Texas in seventh grade, and my first year of football was there. Texas taught me a lot about football."

WR is the least of my worries for this recruiting cycle.  We signed 6 last year and got Omar Manning, Jaelan Reagor and Kennedy Snell the year before.  Anyway, you guys can't sign all the good ones.  If you guys get Whittington, and Wright and Wilson and Higgins, more power to you but the odds are one of those guys or someone equivalent is coming our way.   My bigger concern is getting our #1 target at QB.  Max Duggan from Iowa is supposedly leaning our way despite just getting the red carpet from Urban Meyer on his tOSU visit.   He is also Notre Dame's #1 target at QB but apparently they're out of the running.  Getting Robinson, Rogers and Duggan in consecutive classes would be an accomplishment.

Isn't Duggan headed to Minnesota or is all that just $9.95ers?

The 9.95ers are split.  Steve Wiltfong (national 247 guy) and the TCU writer put in crystal balls on Monday for Duggan to TCU.  Apparently the Minnesota guys still think he's theirs but Wiltfong supposedly has a source that says otherwise.

I'll admit up front that I'm a Tech fan, but certainly not an apologist for illegal behavior on the part of their athletes.  That being said, the above is complete bullshit.  The behaviors of Levi, Bethel (who KK had kicked off the team) and Banks all took place, if true, a substantial amount of time after they left the team and Lubbock completely.  If you trace the post athlete experiences of the ex athletes at any school,  logic dictates a variety of inappropriate behaviors would be uncovered.

Secondly,   Farrar's throat wasn't cut or anything remotely close to it.  It was a completely non legal issue and Boyd is a starting WR at Utah now.

If you watch the video of this week end's incident you see Duffey appears to be sober as a judge and reserved in his behavior.  He didn't deserve to be arrested IMO.  Taylor did deserve it.  As to Duffy's supposed Title IX transgression, there were no legal charges, court appearances, arrests or anything of the sort.  Title IX is an absurdity.

I'm just quoting a guy from the Tech 247 board.  I will agree that all teams have guys get in trouble after graduation.  We had a d-lineman from Round Rock or Austin quit the team and rob  a convenience store back home a year or two ago.  Stuff happens.   However, it does seem like Kliff had to take a lot more questionable character guys in recruiting than most teams have in the last 5 years.  I have to give him credit for taking care of business after the fact though.

  19. Apparently Taylor smashed in the window of a car right in front of some cops and Duffy may have punched a hole in a wall (lucky he didn't hit a stud).  The other two guys got caught up in the mess somehow.  This adds to a pretty long list of guys Kliff has recruited who have gotten into trouble including murder (alleged).  Copied from another board:

That being said they've had, by their own admission, some guys who society would deem undesirable, between Rika Levi allegedly murdering at least one person after leaving, Nigel Bethel being arrested for drug trafficking after leaving (not to mention his incident with Amber Battle), the whole stolen guns out of a drug dealer's safe with Dakota (who I believe is a good person), Castaneda, and Ellison, Paul Banks being arrested recently for organized crime activities, Boyd cutting Farrar's throat after being on campus a couple weeks, Duffey being suspended from the university for allegedly sexual assaulting a young woman... and that's just what is public... so much drama.
