If you go back to their first year in the SEC, Texas has averaged a stronger strength of schedule than A&M. This doesn’t take into account the embarrassingly huge number of FBS schools they have played or them having 8 homes games on several years.

Outside of 1 game, the entire Manziel era was nothing but losing to good teams while beating the shit teams. . The shit just FAR outweighed the good...and that continued on through the entire Sumlin era.   If you want to see almost professional level squirming, ask aggy to name Manziel’s top three wins of his career.

2012 W's over ranked teams:  Bama (1), OU (12), MSU (17), La Tech (23).  That was a good season by any standards.

2013 W's over ranked teams:  Duke (22).  The 8 regular season W's were Rice, SHSU, SMU, Arky, Ole Miss, Vandy, UTEP, MSU.  That's 1 FCS and 3 G5 teams.  Still, that is tied for A&M's 2nd best season since they went 11-3 in '98.

Looks like JUCO transfer Jaylon Lane has also run into some grade or behavior issues.  I think when they signed him I predicted he wouldn't make it through 2 entire seasons.  The DMN blogger picked him as the 5th best player on the team going into next season.

The statuses of Texas Tech running back Desmond Nisby, inside receiver JoJo Robinson and cornerback Jaylon Lane are all “up in the air,” Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said Wednesday.

Though Kingsbury declined to elaborate on their circumstances, each player’s future in the program appears to be in question. Kingsbury didn’t list any of the three when doing a position-by-position personnel breakdown.

“That’s kind of what we’re working through this finals week,” Kingsbury said, “is the statuses of all those guys — final statuses, I would say.”

Lane was credited with 27 tackles, including a tackle for loss, and three pass breakups last season. Lane played in the first six games last season, starting three. However, he didn’t play in five of the last seven games and sat out spring practice to focus on academics.

That's right. I recall TCU @ Ark and UCLA @ ATM being on CBS in recent years.

Yes and it was sweet to listen to the CBS announcers talk about how amazed they were that TCU was dominating the line of scrimmage against an SEC team.  Darius Anderson and Olonilua averaged 7 yds a carry in that game and TCU was plus almost 8 minutes in time of possession.  That was the day Sonny Cumbie showed everyone that he's not just an Air Raid guy and he can adjust to his personnel.

It is interesting how quickly the narrative changes on who is worst.  First the Big 12, then the ACC, now the Pac 12.   Hell, it wasn't long ago that everyone said the Big Ten sucked at football and they spun it around to smack everyone this past bowl season.   The problem with the Pac is it is so far away and the only conference that can really take is the Big 12, who now has a flag planted about as far east from Dallas as Phoenix is west.  I still think the answer is the Big 12 and the Pac 12 pool their rights in 2023, not poach or realign.  It also wouldn't surprise me if the Big Ten entered into that mix and they were negotiating the three largest states and a lot of connected geography in between.

If you're going to poach, poach close.

I agree with pooling the media rights and doing a scheduling alliance.  Honestly, just adding the two Arizona schools doesn't excite me too much.  Zona historically has a pretty mediocre football program and ASU hasn't exactly been kicking ass in the Pac the last 20 years either.  ASU has three double digit win seasons since 1997 and zero major bowl appearances.  Zona has two double digit win seasons since '97 (one of which was in '98) and one Fiesta Bowl appearance.  I don't think adding either one of those schools is going to add a ton of value.  One of them and CU or Utah might be better since you're adding more media markets but that seems unlikely.

Pool the media rights, and schedule 2 cross-conference games every season for every team.  Combine that with some high profile cross-conference basketball, baseball and olympic sports match ups and you have pseudo mega-conference.  TCU under Del Conte and now under Donati has been foreshadowing this possibility for years with basketball games against Pac-12 teams at Staples Centers in '17 and '18, baseball games at Dodgers Stadium for several years and OOC football games scheduled against Pac-12 teams 6 out of 7 years beginning in 2020.

is NaNa actually Catholic? (I assume so based on your comment but have no idea)

I don't know for sure but I would assume so since he went to St. Andrews and then Nolan.  I can't think of anyone I've ever known who sent their kid to St. Andrews who wasn't Catholic.  Same for Nolan with maybe one exception and that kid lived in the neighborhood right next to Nolan where you probably wouldn't send your kid to public school unless you had to.

He has been friendly with the TT program for a while now.  I think most any other year he'd be a slam dunk for the Raiders.  That said, one TTU pay site has already reported that mom has already been asking about who will be the TT head coach year.

Clearly it's an issue for them as well as anyone else they're recruiting.

Looks like Iowa and ASU just offered McIvor too.  I bet he has 20+ offers before this is over.

  7. TCU gets a late LB or strong safety commit for the '18 class.  Former Central Arkansas commit who got a release for family illness reasons.  Ran a 21.28 200M at 6'1" over 200 lbs and anchored the state meet 1st place 4x200 relay over the weekend.  Judging from his Hudl, the kid can play.   Not sure how he was overlooked at Mansfield Legacy unless he was huge grade risk.  Even the recruiting services overlooked him.  He's literally a no star recruit.  Reminds me of Matt Pryor who we signed out of California a few years back about this time of the year.  No stars, no recruiting profile, no other offers and 5 years later he was all-conference and a 6th round draft pick.

Lubbock is the perfect place for McIvor and Kliff is the perfect coach for him.  He grew up in Fort Davis and supposedly was kind of taken aback by the bright lights and big city feel of San Angelo when he moved there his sophomore year.  He might enjoy Pullman though if he visits.  It's probably more like where he grew up than any major college town in America. It's probably too far from mama though.

I think Tech would be the overwhelming favorite but for the fact that Kliff might not be around to tutor the kid.  I see between 6-8 losses on Tech's schedule next season and I think Kliff has to go at least 7-5 to keep his job.  My guess is that mama McIvor is looking at the same schedule I'm looking at and trying to figure out how Kliff keeps his job.  Maybe if Tech comes out strong and beats Ole Miss in the opener it will get some recruiting momentum going but that one I've marked as a "L" for now.

OBs generally doesn't know shit when it comes to football recruiting.

NaNa's parents love the private Catholic vibe that ND offers, apparently.

I know a little bit about this kid and his family.  He went to St. Andrews (Catholic) for elementary school, spent a year or two at Trinity Valley (secular private) and then went to Nolan (Catholic).  St. Andrews and Nolan are ok but not really top notch academic schools.  Even FWISD offers better options academically than Nolan and St. Andrews.  Trinity Valley is very good academically but not so great in football and it ain't Catholic either.  What that tells me about the family is that given the option, they're going to gravitate towards the Catholic school over the secular school especially since Notre Dame checks all the academic boxes as well.

Serious question: does Patterson have a limitless contract, meaning he has infinite years and can leave whenever he wants?

I think CDC eliminated the buy out 5-6 years ago as gesture of trust and good will.  CDC is a master psychologist.  As for the term of the deal, Patterson has a certain number of years on the contract but they just tack on a few more every couple of years.

Fun fact about that chant: I had an aggy tell me once that TCU stole the chant from them because of a corps/yell leader transfer. Of course I don't believe any of that bullshit.

Fun fact about TCU, our ROTC commissions more officers as a % of our enrollment than A&M does according to the Houston Chronicle.  Most recent figures in the article were 2012 when A&M commissioned 154 officers out of the Fighting Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets and little old TCU commissioned 45.  Given that A&M's enrollment is at least 5x that of TCU, it looks like the Corps needs to pick up the pace.

  12. The lowest home game attendance in '17 during a 7-6 season was 45,826.  Capacity at Rice-Eccles is 45,807.  Utah has had 51 straight sold out games and is looking into expanding the stadium. Meanwhile, BYU has averaged fewer than 60,000 at home the last 4 seasons in a row and according to the Deseret News, BYU only had 46,000 for SJSU and 51,000 for UMass last season.  8 of the 20 worst attended games at LaVell Edwards stadium since the '82 expansion were in the past 3 seasons.  What were you saying about fair weather fans?

  13. TCU signed Emari Demercado, a 5'11" 200 lbs. RB out of Saddleback College yesterday.  He will count for the '18 class and enroll this summer.  He ran for over 1,026 yds at almost 7 yds a pop and caught over 50 passes for 443 yds during his freshman season at JUCO.  Was a full qualifier out of high school with offers from UC-Davis and Cal Poly but apparently wanted to play big time football and took a chance at JUCO to prove himself.  No high school stats for his junior year which explains how he got overlooked.  He'll have 4 years to play 3 and should be a good back up for Anderson and Olonilua this season.

I went to our first game there in 2012.  It was fun, and the TCU fans were fine, even though we beat them soundly.

I had reservations about a religious university in Texas after my horrific visit to Baylor, but I had a good time.

I remember that game well.  Boykin's first game as a starter.  Pachall was arrested early Thursday a.m. and Boykin started that Saturday.  We had a shitload of turnovers.  We also started a true freshman RB with BJ Catalon and I think the center Joey Hunt got his first start as a true freshman that day.  Rough game and rough season but it built a foundation for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.  The symmetry between the beginning and end of Boykin's college career is kinda spooky.  Thrust into starting job due to Pachall's screw up and then gets arrested two days before the Alamo Bowl to put Bram Kohlhausen in the same situation.

Close but not entirely accurate.  Our RG, Iwuagu, will be a junior who started 14 games last season and 2 in '16.  Our RT, Niang, will be a junior who started 8 games last year.  I'd call that 2 returning starters.

Overall, I'd say we have 5 returning starters on offense and 7 on defense.  Biggest losses are on the O-line with 2 guys drafted and 2 others signing as UDFA, Travin Howard (leading tackler) and Texada and Orr (3 yr starters in secondary).

This! Last year I saw some place charging $50 to park. That's outrageous!

Parking AND shuttles from two churches 5 minutes away are free.  The shuttle from the high school one mile away is free with the $20 parking.  What are two Ubers going to cost you and where do they go to pick up all of the thousands of people leaving at the same time?  There is also parking for $40 at the churches 2-3 blocks away.  All of that is going to cost you less than a round trip on Uber once they upcharge you for the event.  I've never seen $50 parking unless it's in someone's front yard within a block of the stadium parking lot.

Why would we want to bring Mizzou back?? Nebraska is too prideful to ever return even if it's their best option to become "elite" again. Maybe Arkansas..if we finally kick out Baylor

The Big 12 would take Mizzou back in a nano-second if they called.  KC and StL media markets.  Flagship state university of the 18th largest state with no other FBS school in the state as a clear competitor.   Compare Mizzou to what we had to pick from last year -- BYU, Cincy, UH, Memphis, CSU . . . .  Mizzou is head and shoulders over any of those schools.  They really should come back.  They're a total misfit in the SEC, especially in the east division.
