That was one helluva drive.
It was assisted by blatant holding on each 3rd down conversion, all uncalled. The worst was on the wide receiver on 3rd and 10.

Whew, I’m at least in testing. Probably will be at Acceptance by next week. Still doesn’t make me less angry.

The NCAA has not yet punished them. Baylor and Briles both ask for more time to respond to the findings by the NCAA. After that is done, the penalty will be announced.
Any time frame on this? Is there a deadline?

Jeff Howe was pretty fired up on the Longhorn Blitz podcast. He rightly felt like Herman and his staff got embarrassed on Saturday.
•Herman's game plan on offense was arrogant. Thought we could just impose our will, and had no counter moves when it didn't work.•Not physical, not prepared - very un-Herman like for a big game•Frustrated with uncreative personnel schemes and play calls. Too in love with 11 personnel. Coaches aren't adjusting personnel to current talent, not putting players in position to succeed.•Same issues on defense - uncreative, not adjusting personnel, play calls to fit talent and put players in position to succeedFeels like this is a pretty big fork in the road moment for Herman and friends. Herman flat out got pantsed. Will he adjust and evolve and like Saban, Meyer, etc? Like Riley did after last year? Or is the change talk lip service, and will he stubbornly stay the course?Agree with all of this, and the more I think about it, the angrier I get. For a supposedly MENSA guy, Herman has shown none of the mental flexibility to creatively address problems. Rather, he seems more and more a classic, closed-minded, set-in-his-ways, circle the wagons coach who builds an insular culture and don't react to the outside. What's the point of bringing in all these so-called consulting head coaches if he's just going to trot out the same arrogant, simple-minded, unreactive schemes and gameplans?

How did Baylor avoid any punishment from the NCAA for a criminal rape culture and coverup?
Programs used to get beat down just for giving kids jobs.

You are still waiting for this answer in year 3?
Well, first couple of years had to be devoted to upgrading personnel.

Devastating criticisms of TH and staff. Does the coach have the wherewithal to make changes?

Tackling and pursuit was an embarrassment. Where are the fundamentals? We were lucky not to lose by 21.

At this point I would say things are frustrating. Like ‘99, ‘00. We are stuck with a few “smallish” problems distracting from potential greatness. I remember (96-01) loving our teams but always dropping 4 games and 2 they shouldn’t. The magazine lines were all about how we were “stuck” at 9 wins.
all I can say is that they had a shot at LSU and OU but the better team won. Fuck it. That’s were were at, let’s not be aggy about it. I felt shitty after Maryland last year and couldn’t believe how the guys closed out.
The game I saw exposed our well known systemic problems against a superior team with talented individuals putting in exceptional performances. I don’t feel the team quit, it was out coached, however, the difference here is that the problems are not stagnant- there isnt the stench of sewage lingering, we are still in my fans mind a frustrating transition. No excuses. We lost, OU best us fair and square. But I don’t feel the hopeless incompetence that permeated the last 10 years.
now, I’m going to go get stoned.
Agree with this summation. Structural issues in coaching and scheme need to get fixed.

OU upgraded their biggest weakness by adding Grinch. Meanwhile, Herman stood pat on his ego.
Since the 2nd half of W Virginia. Something collapsed.

What happened to the offense?

Feel like we’re not getting a ton of pressure on passing downs without blitzing.

Scipio: This is the best Texas OL since 2006. Unfortunately, it's really going to take a step back when Parker Braun redshirts for the rest of the season.
Calling the redshirt, and sounds quite certain. Does he really need to work on pass blocking that badly?

Can we just stop with this shit? If/when he's healthy he'll play. You don't RS the best kid you have in the secondary.
If he's not healthy, risks getting re-injured every other game, and is regressing rather than getting better, seems like it's better for his own prospects and the team's to give his body the time it needs.

Or they get injured and you get less than a 100% healthy kid in the games in which he plays. Sterns has already shown regression this season most likely due to injuries. Maybe his body is just not optimal for the rigors of advanced level football. Especially considering the meteoric rise of low 3 star Chris Brown, and his ability to physically mature over the 1st 2 years of his career before being needed on the field. Currently the only players in his class that will be hands down better than him are Duvernay and Jones.
Is it a ridiculous idea to redshirt Sterns this season and let him get fully healthy/Yancied for a dominant season next year?

The tough decision about not starting talented true freshmen, is that if you don't play them their 1st year, you may only get the benefit of their talent for 2yrs and then they leave early for the NFL...
Or they're impatient and enter the portal.

I was incorrect, it was scipio who wrote about playing freshman.
I don't have time to pull the data to back this up, but it makes sense to me that while playing a true freshman year, a player is more likely to be injured as a result of fatigue, technique deficiency, or being undersized. Players who do not see game time as a true freshman have the benefit of an added year of s&c and coaching to curb injury risk as more complete players. So the conclusion I am drawing is that the guys on our injury report have a higher likelihood of dealing with injuries as a result of playing as true freshman. That's a reasonable take.
Scipio on OSU:
Caden Sterns went down late with what looks like a major injury and led the team in tackles with 12. His ability to range free from the Cover 2 shell plays to his strengths, but in this game tackling was decidedly not one of them. He blew three tackles on Sanders where he took bad angles, didn't acknowledge inside help and shoe dived. I think he wore down. It's possible he never fully recovered from his injuries that plagued him right up to Fall camp. This is the playing freshman early paradox I've written about. They show talent and ability, but a lack of physical preparation for the rigors of the game and a lack of "armor" virtually guarantee injuries that can lead to more down the road.

The best way to milk the clock, limit possessions, and control field position is to keep the ball. We got to 36 and then several 3 and outs followed by a muffed punt, which is what got them back in the game. A little killer instinct after the 2nd int or a better play call on 4th and 3 or more aggression in those 4th quarter possessions would have iced the game much quicker, quicker still with a td at some point in the quarter.
Yeah, there's something about the lead-guarding mindset that's self-destructive. Even when the Line is dominating and we're averaging 5 ypc, those fourth quarter drives where they're not really trying to score just seem to fizzle. Happens to so many teams. And all of a sudden a three-and-out and suddenly the opponent has momentum.

So Nahlin suggest LVBS is a slot. Is he or isn't he? And, if he is, who would be the preferred slot--Dixon or LVBS?

Not hating or anything but we pretty much fell on the ball the last 3 possessions/entire 4th quarter. This is a common theme with Herman. Texas probably could have dropped 50 points if Herman didn't go conservative to end the game.
Weird quirk of Herman's. He's more than willing to do somewhat offensive things like making fun of Missouri's Drew Locke on the sidelines. But he won't run up the score, even when offensive reps are probably a good thing.

Rewatching OSU it became clear just how dominant the O-Line was. The left side got caved in frequently using straight zone. On power and counter the pullers were blowing open huge holes with their kickout blocks. The Cowboys rarely got penetration, as reflected by only 3 TFLs (each for 1 yd) and ZERO sacks. I was a bit surprised that Texas averaged only 5.0 YPC but looking at the stats, the 2 kneel downs in victory formation took the YPC from 5.4 to 5.0 and the former is more reflective of what the OL did on Saturday.
Good observations. Actually, OSU did a better job open field tackling than we did. YPC could have been higher if they hadn’t done a pretty good job of bringing our runners down after they breached the LOS.

Dixon has to be impressed that Duvernay is averaging like 8 catches a game.
