Bennos is very solid, but you will be disappointed if you eat there after the pearl.

I've been to Bennos before and think it's a pretty solid lunch spot for fried shrimp when coming off 6 hours fishing with 2 teenage boys, so it worked out well and you're darn right about Black Pearl being a great spot.

  2. Had a pretty good fishing trip. Got a slot red and a couple of trout and 4 sheephead before heading out a bit and hooking up with 7 spinner sharks, all between 5 and 7 foot.

Lunch was fried shrimp at Bennos (always good) and dinner  was at the Cajun Greek. It was my first time at Cajun Greek and thought it was very good.

Side note: one of the fishing captains recommended marinading the shark in liquid margarita mix and then grill it, he said the lime-lemon juice helps make it great. Has anyone here tried this?

  3. 1874 is really bringing back some memories for me. I remember playing putt putt at Green Acres and wasn't there also a Green Acres driving range and a Green Acres liquor store there as well.

I had plenty of good meals at La Fiesta on North Loop and do you remember El Matador that was across Burnet rd. next to Dan's liquor store?

Need help from the olds. My mom's side came to Austin in the mid sixties for my grandpa to manage a Gibson's. I think it was somewhere in the Crestview/ Allendale area. Anyone know what it is now, or where it was if the building no longer exists?

I used to shop at a Gibson's on Burnet road. It was just North of where the old Dallas nightclub used to be.

This is one of my all-time favorites.  All the historical documents I've seen identify this site what is now the NEC of Koenig and Burnet but I'm 90% sure that's incorrect and it's actually the NWC of 2222 and Balcones/Parkcrest opposite of the vacant gas station and Jack Brown cleaners site.  2222.JPG?zoom=2

The sign in the foreground is advertising new lots for sale in which would become the Allandale and Highland Park West neighborhoods.

Chet, I think you are correct. I grew up down the street from Deej and I would say that this pic is from 2222 and Parkcrest.
