  1. Was the '81 Memorial Day flood kind of localized to Central TX, or did it affect a broad area of Texas? I was just a kid, but I remember being in Victoria that summer and it rained so much we had to change rooms at the hotel my family was staying in (first floor rooms near the pool were getting water inside).

  2. Anyone experienced with bank fishing at Lake Pflugerville? I've been skunked several times, mostly fishing along the south shoreline and the dam.  Would I have better luck on the north side? Or that marshy area on the west side, along Becker Farm Road? Thanks for any tips...

As a side note, maybe my eyesight isn't so hot, but I never see a lot of aquatic life there. (Minnows, perch, frogs, crayfish, etc.)  I also rarely see bass jumping or feeding, compared to other lakes I've fished. I'm not sure that lake has a well-established ecosystem. You need that to support the gamefish at the top of the food chain.

  3. Many years ago I used Supershuttle quite a bit, but it seems like they folded during Covid, and reorganized, and now their rates are insane. I mean like 4 times what their old rates were.

How is there not a van-based airport shuttle that can do it for $25 or so?

  4. I almost never eat at McDonalds unless external circumstances force me to, so I'm not up to date on their menu. Today, I wanted something "breakfasty"  and McD's was the only thing nearby. I figure a sausage biscuit or egg mcmuffin would be a safe choice. So I go in and see some kind of breakfast combo that looks decent. Turns our I ordered something called a "McGriddle" by mistake, which on the menu board looks a lot like a biscuit.  But instead of a biscuit, the top and bottom "bun" are some type of pancake saturated in a fake log-cabin syrup flavor. Yeah, it's on me for not ordering right--but here's an idea: don't sell a bunch of "breakfast sandwich" type products that look very similar on the menu.  Stick with what you're known for. I bet 95% of McD's customers just want the regular biscuit or mcmuffin, not this griddle abortion that tastes like chemical death.

  5. "...university courses in Texas can't "require or attempt to require a student to adopt a belief that any race, sex, or ethnicity or social, political or religious belief is inherently superior to any other."

Wait--isn't this the same thing as moral relativism? Which I thought conservatives hated? This sounds like they can't teach that White European Colonial culture is superior, or that Christianity is better than Islam.

Is this like the time they accidentally banned all marriage by trying to ban gay marriage?

  6. Future generations will be indoctrinated in religious schools, taught a superficial understanding of history, and undereducated (at best) in hard science and critical thinking. A recipe for a permanent Republican majority.  And the best part--we're paying for it.

If the Robin Hood system is still going to exist, the City of Austin should refuse to make any more payments into it.

  7. It makes me surly when buy I buy a new sportcoat or suit online and the pockets come all stitched up. I'll forget this shit and only find out when I'm late for a wedding and I don't have the time or tailoring tools to fuck with this shit. Just deliver the goddamn coat with the pockets already opened.

  8. Well at least I won't have to worry about capital gains taxes for a while, since I won't have any.

On an unrelated note,  where can I buy mass quantities of canned cat or dog food, cheap? I like the Mighty Dog "Seared Beef" flavor the best but willing to consider other brands if price is right.

  9. And while we talk about enshittening, I'd also like to take this opportunity to complain that ALL airlines have completely fucked up up their service/ticket counter/check-in experience. They have all this counter space for customer service agents, but only put 1 or 2 overworked agents there to handle ticketing & baggage check, when there are literally mobs of people in line needing service.  This is because some executive decided everyone will do all this ticketing and check-in shit electronically, but the real world isn't like that--there are situations and problems that need direct human interaction to resolve.
