Delp  and the other TE (can’t remember his name) are really good players.  Like as good or better than Stowers who we couldn’t even cover when we knew he was their best threat.  We can probably slow their run game down but who believes our LBs can cover their backs and TEs?  So this is probably not a game for Sark to “take the points”.  Need to have the red zone offense be unfucked for a change.

This better be a game to take the points, especially as long as we are within a score or two and there is plenty of time on the clock.  We need to keep this close and anything can happen.  The worst thing we can do is forgo points, get stopped, and play from further and further behind.

I'm not optimistic for a win but I do expect a close game.  Going 4 and out is a recipe for disaster on the road against a team as talented as GA.

That's me on the right, as the cameras swept the Texas section after the Sweed TD catch... headphones and all.  Incredible atmosphere, but yeah, if i was fighting man, could have easily scrapped a half dozen times, it was that bad.  Got called a faggot several times walking to and from various bars /to stadium etc.. no biggie I suppose, and that was well before the game.

After the game was more verbal and just outright embarrassing for the tOSU fans, but water under the bridge, that was a long time ago.    We walked from stadium to downtown as the busses had stopped and several elderly fans in our throng of Texas fans needed the 'protection', so it took us a lot longer to get back.

This was my experience as well.  I was with 8 other guys and I was one of the smallest of the group, and I am not small.  We basically ignored everyone and stayed together as much as we could.  We had mixed seats and I was not in the Texas section.   We had no threats at the game but a ton of shit talking.  The worst was getting back to town from the game.  Even the cops were constantly warning us to try to get back to the hotel as quickly as possible.  The problem was that proved to be very difficult and we walked forever.  I saw a lot of fights but almost all them were between Buckeye fans fighting each other.  I did meet Kirk Herbstreit briefly after the game and he was cordial and friendly, whatever you think of him as a sports personality.

I regret I am not going this year but most of my travel crew is dead or disbursed.  This is not a game I would take the wife/girlfriend or kids to.

Having the game at 11:00 should make a huge difference.  I am jealous of those who will make the game but I am not jealous of having to deal with Columbus, at least as it was back then.

  3. I don't blame the cop for pulling him over or even arresting him for the suspicion of driving while impaired.  But to put the statements in the paperwork that have nothing to do with arrest but are derogatory to young men who have nothing to do with the arrest and fine entertainment establishments is just bush league.

I don't know who originally said what, but plenty of people have pointed out that when a booster contributes say $100k for to TOF, they are doing it for the return of having a better football team, not because they expect to receive $120k as a ROI for example.  You can call that irrational spending I guess.  But just because someone is willing to do that, doesn't mean they do it blindly.  If you are a Texas booster, you can say look how much better the team was with Golden and Mukuba, without those guys we probably don't make it to the semi-finals.  On the other hand, if you are a Texas A&M booster who contributed to the 2022 class, you would rightly say that money was lit on fire for absolutely no benefit.  Would that be reason for an A&M booster to have donor fatigue and be weary to give more, even if it is already irrational spending?  I would think so.

I think another reason involves location, school culture, exposure and history.  This is what the true blue bloods have that the aggies lack.  If aTm and Texas are offering the same in NIL,  how much more would they have to pay for you to go to College Station when you have other options?  Most of their problems have nothing to do with money, it has to do with other factors that are attractive to young athletes.  Location, prestige, other NIL opportunities, exposure, reputation, winning tradition, and pride.  Some people are smart enough to realize that the biggest bag isn't necessarily the best opportunity.  Yes, there are players who will chase the biggest bag, but look at how most of those individuals end up.  See the 2022 aTm class.

I think some of the boosters are realizing, all things being equal, they just can't win.  There was a time when they thought they could throw money at a problem, especially when they had SEC/Jimbo/Johnny Football momentum (and some of the internet fans still think they can), but the fact that they didn't make a leap when they were alone in the SEC, dropping bags, Jimbo, 2022 Class, etc. coupled with our recent success and their lack of it has to have some of their donor base facing reality.

If my son was a 5* athlete the price for him to go to aTm over Texas, Alabama, Fla, Ohio St., Ga., ND, Mich, USC, LSU (just to name a few) would be exponentially higher because of the location, culture and history of the program.  That is their real problem and not one anyone on TexAgs will ever see as a factor.  "Big bad Texas is outspending us."  Their only problem with NIL is that other programs have it too not that they don't have the support for it.  Their problems are not fixable because they are their tradition.

  5. Their SoS is higher because they have to play us.  Our SoS is lower because we play them.  That is it in a nutshell.

    Common Opponents:

Fla.  - aggies away.  - Texas at home.

Ark. - aggies neutral site - Texas away.

Miss St. - aggies away - Texas at home

    aggies:                                                 Texas:

LSU - at home                                     Georgia - at home

Mizzou - at home                               Kentucky - at home

South Carolina - away                       Oklahoma - neutral site

Auburn - away                                   Vanderbilt - away

We play them at home while we are on the road, but our schedule is a piece of cake because we are playing a weak aggie football program and they have to play the powerhouse University of Texas.  Nevermind, they are getting us at home and we play away.   Their biggest argument for us having an SEC cupcake schedule is that they suck and are dragging our SoS to the dirt and theirs is tougher because they have to play the juggernaut that is The University of Texas.

Last year, I forgot to wear my Sam Ehlinger jersey once. For one game. Guess which game it was? Texas-OU, the one regular-season game we lost. I explained this to my wife while I picked it up to put it on this morning.

    "COINCIDENCE!" she barked at me.

"What, are you meaning to tell me that what I choose to wear has no impact on the actions of 44-odd men on a field in a stadium a thousand miles away from here?"

Been with her nearly 30 years and she still knows nothing about football.

My current cap is undefeated.  I feel where you're coming from.

they fail at nil because they have to overpay to get mercenaries who will tolerate the bullshit

I really think this the head meeting the nail, except they don't tolerate the bullshit at the end of the day.  They have to overpay to get the elite to come there, because it's a shithole.  Then they get there and realize what they have gotten themselves into.  Then they do anything, including self destruct to get themselves out of there. Stewart, Demas, King, years ago Murry, etc.  Manzel is the only person socially and chemically altered enough to stay and endure it all.  And if Mike Evans wasn't there to make him look halfway decent he would have flamed out too.

  8. It is simply amazing to me that they think they are the equivalent or better in terms of brand, history, facilities and location.  I go to CS way to often.  aTm is the entire culture of the city wherever you go.  The contrast between environments is stark and has to weigh into the equation.  There are just recruits that are not going to want to live there.  Some kids may not want to be in Austin either, but if I was a recruit and had to choose between where I wanted to spend my next 3-4 years, CS would be near the bottom of college towns I would choose.  I still don't understand any Texas kid choosing to live in Columbus, Ohio, but it happens every year.

Some of them are using the proper logic of Texas just made the playoffs.  We need to win this year.  But that still wont matter for kids that want to play for a high profile blue blood program and live in a town like Austin.

I can't believe I am saying this but Fayetteville is more appealing than College Station.

They just can't fathom that their environment can be off-putting to a lot of the population, and they are the one's creating the creepy environment.
