  1. I watched it as well and thought it was pretty good. It gets a little lost but overall it's a quality series. The lead girl is pretty solid in it. I'm looking forward to season 2. The YouTube interface is shit though. Trying to get from one episode to the next was difficult and it would just start at random places in the show for me. They have to get their format better.

  2. Hey Fellas, my nephew just graduated high school and is going to Marine boot camp next month. I asked what he wanted to do before he goes and he said "go fishing with you Unc". Damn near made me tear up. Now I'm a pretty good bass fisherman, but he doesn't know shit about catching fish. I want to take him to a spot where we could just walk around the water, cast a line and have a good chance at landing a fish. So my question is do any of you guys have a tank or pond some where we could go around Austin and fish for a couple of hours? I know it's a long shot, but I thought I would ask. It goes without saying that we would be completely respectful of your property and your fish. We aren't interested in eating the fish, just catching and releasing. Thanks for reading and your consideration.

  3. My son's band just put out their first three songs on Apple Music and Spotify. The band is called Parker Clone and the EP is Music for Other People. They will be seniors next year at McCallum High. Give it a listen if you have a few minutes. I am really digging the sound and very proud of my kid and his buddies. http://parkerclone.coma2887753890_10.jpg

  4. Lucha Libre is a great taco spot (that was me from Shaggy), right across the street is Karina's and they make awesome burritos and tacos as well. Next door to them is Shakespeares Pub and their fish and chips are pretty great. Ocean Beach is my favorite right now in San Diego. It's just a cool, relaxing vibe and has great food and drink spots. Hodads for burgers, South Beach Bar and Grille for great fish and seafood tacos, lots of fun people watching. Oscar's is good tacos, but the location next to the stadium doesn't sell beer. Monkey Paw Brewery and 10 Barrel are a block from each other and cool breweries although they couldn't be more different. I love La Puerta for tacos and tequila drinks. San Diego is awesome, have a great time!

  5. Went last August with my wife, 16 year old son and his best friend and we loved it! Great stuff from FWD, here is what I got.

National Museum of Anthropology is world class and worth every minute you spend in there. Plan for several hours to see as much as you can because it is vast.

Palacio de Bellas Artes is beautiful and we were lucky enough to visit during a Picasso and Matisse exhibit where there were hundreds of their works on display.

The Castillo de Chapultepec is worth a visit. The architecture and views are awesome. The artwork and other pieces are beautiful as well.

The pyramids and grounds at Teotihuacan are awe inspiring. About an hour car ride, maybe 45 minutes from the historic center of Mexico City. We used Uber to get there. Very affordable.

The Metropolitan Cathedral is beautiful and right next to the Zocalo and the Presidential Palace (which is ok, not great). I'm not Catholic, but I felt like one when I was there. Very powerful place.

For trinkets and souvenirs we loved the La Ciudadela Market. Prices and people were very nice. Clean, no yelling, and tons of stuff.

We used Uber for everything. Fast, friends and very affordable.

That's all I got for now, if I think of anything else I will add it.

Very cool . . . what track was your son on in the Fine Arts Academy?

He was in the marching band, guitar classes and piano. Not sure of the official track program.

No snark intended . . . how about a thread for music that falls outside of the typical pop/rock/rap/country realm we post so often?  Jazz, classical, world music, marching band and drum corps, whatever.

Here's a video of the Austin McCallum HS percussion ensemble performing their director's arrangement of Snarky Puppy's "Lingus".  My daughter is a sophomore in the Fine Arts Academy at McCallum , and is the front ensemble section leader (front left on marimba).  These kids work their asses off, and it shows.

Nice! Mac class of 1992 here, and my son is a junior there now. He did two years in the fine arts academy but is now doing regular studies to have more time for his own band. They are all juniors at Mac and have played several clubs in town including Stubbs, Beer Land and Carousel Lounge. They just recorded their first album at the Ice Cream Factory Studio this past weekend. Props to talented kids!
