Or, we get judges on the supreme court who correctly (or more correctly) interpret the 2nd amendment as it was for 200 years. We banned the shit out of weapons of war at the state and federal level for the longest time.

The 2nd amendment permitted communities to raise militias with adequate arms without obstruction from a central government. Militias are codified in the Constitution, even to repel armed insurrections when called. The federalist papers outlined this need, so citizens could defend themselves from “Natives, Foreign Invaders, and Armed Factions.”

But, militias were made irrelevant with the need for a professional standing army and reserve guards. Alas, the right wingers have redefined this right as a right to open carry and get any weapon, whether the person is properly trained and/or willing to serve to protect their community and be accountable.

the "Or we get" is doing a lot of work there. You "get" judges when they die, retire or you blackmail them into retirement. I don't know how you can adjust that without appearing to be especially political with the courts. FDR tried to stack the courts but he was rebuffed and he was a really popular POTUS.

Maybe you could get some consensus around putting term limits on SCOTUS judges which would mean every president could start their term by appointing 2 judges but I think you would run the risk of that getting struck down by SCOTUS which would put everyone in an awkward bind.

I would like to see gun owners required to participate in monthly training and safety classes. I believe that this would give gun owners more respect for the damage these tools can do, plus education is never a bad thing.

I'm sure the libertarians would love that.

Big part of the problem, but not the only ones.  Couldn't the President just issue an executive order banning assault rifles?

Of course not. That's not how government works. The only way to fix it is for congress to pass constitutional amendments with super majorities and for states to adopt or to gain a majority on the supreme court. The Heler decision takes the ability away from almost everyone to actually fix the problem.

“Actually, Elon Musk currently embracing Nazi nonsense is not that bad.  What you should be mad at today is the fact that America didn’t execute every single Nazi in the 1940s, and some of them were even allowed to renounce Nazism and work in the war effort against the Nazis and then in the Cold War against the USSR.”

No one said it wasn't that bad. All I did was note the historical correlation and some of y'all got really triggered by it. If you don't want to talk about it in the thread then don't talk about but let's not make shit up about what people said to make your point.

Well, we kind of had World War where we defeated the Nazis and liberated Western Europe.  I think that gave us some moral high ground on the issue.  Elon didn’t go work for Tesla after Tesla defeated his Neo-Nazi militia and forced them to change their ways.  He is currently embracing fascist nonsense.

Oh ok. So we can just whitewash the fact we took the creators of the V2 terror program that killed 9k brits and 12k laborers because we won the war.  Stop being such a pussy and acknowledge the ugly contradiction of american space superiority. This is our history. A brutal and unfortunate reality but a reality nonetheless.

That NASA wasn’t building concentration camps, and math isn’t forever tainted if the guy who wrote the proof had a bad history.   It’s not like we agreed to do our own Holocaust to recruit those scientists over to our project or build on their work.

Elon isn't building concentration camps either. Dude is just a nazi like the scientific foundation of our rocket and space industry. I don't like elon but it's just the unpleasant reality of the US space and missile program.

I’m surprised Paxton didn’t have something typed up and ready to submit as soon as the No immunity ruling dropped, indicting Obama for something.

or even do it before, so the judge knew about it while considering the ruling.

He's too busy suing Austin for weed.

Expert analysis of the gun. Before, it was thought possible that it fired with just the hammer being pulled back, without the trigger being pulled. After different analysis, the expert looked that it couldn’t have fired without the trigger being pulled, which means Baldwin had to pull it.

Note: that’s just the prosecution’s expert. Would be unsurprised if Baldwin gets one to opine the opposite, which would very likely be enough to establish reasonable doubt. A very light plea deal is the only thing that makes sense here, from what I can read.

Yeah I found the description. I mean let's see how it's explained. This is the story as I understand it: They tested the gun and it eventually fired without pulling the trigger but the inspectors said that was because of damage caused to the gun from previous tests. That should have ended this whole thing right there. Then some other experts put this broken gun back together and have concluded there is no way it could have fired. I'm a bit skeptical in how confident you could possibly be in that conclusion given it came from analyzing a broken gun that did fire in previous testing without pulling the trigger however I guess let's hear the details in the trial. It still seems like complete bullshit.

The new gun analysis from experts in ballistics and forensic testing based in Arizona and New Mexico relied on replacement parts to reassemble the gun fired by Baldwin — after parts of the pistol were broken during earlier testing by the FBI. The new report examines the gun and markings it left on a spent cartridge to conclude that the trigger had to have been pulled or depressed.

Can someone explain why no one has filed a similar motion in other states alleging the same argument that as in Colorado?   Make each state go on record as yay or nay.

I bet you start to see lawsuits filed to get biden off the ballot for some dumb reason.

The House appears to have never considered that the majority party could never decide on a candidate for Speaker. There should be a rule that after X days, they should shift to a plurality of the votes.  If the majority can’t decide then they really don’t have a majority.

This would trigger an election in other countries, right? If the PM can’t put together a coalition government?

I've been on X / Twitter for a long time... it was an exceptional resource during the 2015 floods, during Harvey, baseball/football/recruiting seasons, the Presidential election and the Insurrection, the Ukraine War... so so useful.

It was hard but I finally deactivated my account and deleted the app from my phone.  Not easy to unplug from the still useful information it provides.

    Sucks

I loathe Elon for screwing it up so badly and turning it into what it is today

I hope Threads eventually catches up.

    What a dick!

I may be naive but I still think Elon is relatively temporary. He didn't buy twitter. A bunch of fucking people bought twitter and at some point they are going to oust him one way or another.  I would avoid Saudi embassies if I were him. Twitter isn't much use politically if only the mouth breather reply guys are using it.

They will vote to acquit. They will do so in order to hang the 60 House Republicans out to dry who voted to impeach. They will find candidates to run against them that are loyal to Dan Patrick, and enrich the consultants that run that operation

They're intent on making Texas even more unlivable.
