  1. Following keenly. I manage about 12 folks. We used to do WFH 1 day a week. Everybody just sort of took the day whenever. The expectation was to come in on the periodic (monthly or biweekly) all hands meeting day. Covid proved that 100% telecommute would be fine. Upper Management is discussing return to work. I expect the standard to be 3 days at home for most staff. I don't know how best to organize that. Should we try to nail 1 day down as everyone in the office? I guess to just hobnob, coffee runs, and lunch. In the future every meeting with 3 or more involves someone at home, then virtually all meetings are going to be virtual. And it seems dumb to go to the office to have virtual meetings.
  2. Wife is looking at 3rd row SUVs. Am I crazy to nix the 3 Kias, based on reliability concerns? They've got rave reviews, but I just have this feeling that it will be the Pilot, Highlander, and maybe Ascent that are still chugging along years later.
  3. The hidden scourge.. sinkhole.
  4. That cell has been parked over Roybd Rock for the last hour plus. Off to go watch the South San Gabriel gauge jump...
  5. Hopefully the Boquillos crossing will be open by then. Do a hike in the AM, do Boquillis for an early dinner.
  6. I love the hiking. Not so much backpacking. I prefer to the South Rim in 1 day. Stay 2 nights at either the hotel or the campground. Hit the trail at sunrise (Laguna Meadows). Pack a day pack with water and snacks. Smugly say hello to the hikers with 44 pund packs as you pass them. Hit the peak, down the Pinnacles trail. Eat a big meal as the basin restaurant and have a couple of beers. Next day: do Window or Lost Mine.
  7. Got a used crescent sup+ with a chair. Eager to get out there. Waiting to see what has decent flows for Saturday or Sunday.
  8. Source tells me that age 8-12 vaccine will be approved and available in July.
  9. Considering the vibe cubera. Basically a SUP you add a chair too. My thinking is that I can take a kid out for a short trip, and it would be good in skinny water. BKC has something similar, but less weight capacity. But I'll probably get whatever pops up on Craigslist or FB.
  10. For the record I have way worse ideas than this! Okay, how about this idea (similar to @ButtFumble shared admin backend): we sign coaching contracts to the UT System, not UT-Austin. Then we shitcan a coach, we reassign at whatever satellite campus needs a new coach.
  11. Today many would-be undergraduates are offered a road to the Flagship through spending a year at UTSA. It strikes me that this is similar to how high schools have both a varsity and junior varsity team. Since intercollegiate athletic transfers have been very liberalized, I think we would create a new (old) paradigm. UT only has so many scholarships. But UTSA has some, too. It may be that you would like to get a year of playing time rather than redshirting. Or maybe the coaches don't think you are yet worth a schollie. You might offer a greyshirt or as spot as a preferred walk-on. But maybe UTSA could offer you a full ride, with the notion that if you perform you can transfer over to Austin. Texas would always keep a couple slots open for UTSA trabsfers. In essence UTSA becomes the junior varsity team. The flagship could invest in the weight room, nutrition, tutors, and coaching for athletes at UTSA. Maybe there can be some similarity in playbooks, or at least techniques. Thoughts?
  12. Hypothetically, if I had an 11 year old could I lie about the birthday and get them a pfizer?
  13. This is like super bowl squares, right? I got $5 on Africa.
  14. Does HB 1925 ban kayak/canoe camping?
  15. https://nicholaswade.medium.com/origin-of-covid-following-the-clues-6f03564c038 Obviously that 1 blog article has convinced me.
  16. Awesome. Hopefully the rain from this week will keep it from being too boney next weekend. I confess I reread Louis Aulbrach guides all the time. Really want to do a Pecos float sometime.
  17. 4.5 hour movie of a dude canoeing in the Yukon (Hess). I recommend the whole thing.
  18. Pfizer to be approved for 12-15 next week. Source" a tweet I read citing a NYT article I didn't click
  19. The Perd and general healthy flows from other tributaries should put 5 ft on Travis over the next couple of days. Maybe more. A good way to start May.
  20. Fwiw right now there is enough flow to do Colorado from FM 45 to 16 or 190. A segment very rarely run.
  21. I think I've caught the kayak bug. A year late, but the way the market seems to be! I've got some canoe experience, but am thinking of buying a kayak that I can do some day and overnight trips with. So not so heavy I can't manhandle things, but big enough to carry my backpacking gear and sundries. I have a square stern discovery if I want to take the kiddos out. This would be for me. I've been on some sit on top kayaks. Just smaller ones, paddling around the lake. I don't mind getting wet. I've done a fair bit of wilderness canoeing. A couple of trips to the Yukon, Big Salmon. Took my wife down the Upper Missourri before the kiddos. Recently did the west branch penobscot in maine. So I like canoes, although I've also had some strenuous days fighting the wind, so a kayak is sort of appealing. At this point tentatively leaning toward the hybrids. Maybe a discovery 119, but also looking at ultimate 12, and ascend h10/h12. Whatever pops up on Craigslist or FB msrketplace. Anyone have any thoughts? Ideal craft would be good for the kind of shallows and pool & drop we have in Texas. Enough capacity for a 225 lb dude and 60 pounds of gear. I'm thinking that means a capacity of 350, but ideally more like 400, using the 80% rule of thumb. Likely use would be Colorado from FM 190 to the lake; Upper Guad; Nueces/Frio/Medina; maybe something farther afield like the Buffalo or Current.
  22. Did they half ass the response - let him get away - because they think he will "turn himself in" later? A fella might think he got the kid glove treatment because he was on the other side of the blue line. Not me mind you.
  23. (I think) The valuation goes up, but your taxes will only go up the cap percent. But next year is another 10% taxable bump. So it smoothes it and slows it down, but eventually catches up. I figure even at my valuation if I did a FSBO sign I'd have 5 cash offers well over by Sunday night. So I ain't gonna protest.
  24. I'm pretty sure I could be canceled just saying Jawa in the OP. I ain't touching Sand People apologies!
