This show is intentionally leaving a lot of things in the dark as it's timeline seems to be all over the place or at least ambiguous.

A quick read of the Appendices in ROTK wrt the chronology of the second age clearly shows this.

I took a dive into the appendix just to clarify a few things and now I m more confused than ever.

Agreed on this.  I'm pretty sure we're looking at different time periods.  At least for Galadriel and Arondir.

Yes but in the movies there were regular orcs moving about in daylight as well, alongside the Uruk-Hai.  And not just near Mordor where there was a veil of darkness, but also the warg-mounted orcs attacked the Rohirrim in broad daylight en route to Helm's Deep.

The descriptions basically say that orcs don't like sunlight, since they were originally born in darkness, but they can tolerate it when they must.

Maybe the orcs in Rings of Power react more strongly to sunlight, because they're thousands of years closer to their birth, and haven't built up as much tolerance to sunlight, as the orcs of the Third Age?  Just guessing here.

The orcs in LOTR were essentially forced to go out in the sunlight or face death at the hands of the Uruk Hai or Sauron.  It has never been clear to me, but there may also be different 'breeds' of orcs that have differing resistance to sunlight.  The Hobbit mentions 'goblins' that won't even leave the caves to chase Bilbo and the Dwarfs.  It may be that they just didn't have the motivation.  Or they could be much more susceptible to injury from the sun than the orcs in LOTR.  /nerdout

  3. Seems super-odd that a teacher type would get all wound up about copyright infringement.  Assuming any of that is true.
But the bolded, my word the horror.
Also, lmao @ "bland is best."  Da fuq.
It's an open records issue. The same thing would be true in Texas depending on the type of license the state entity has. Generally you can't just use an open records request to obtain copies of a third party's copyrighted work held by the state. You just get to view the copies. That's what they did here.

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/if-students-dont-learn-critical-race-theory-why-do-teachers-pacific-educational-group-school-board-administrators-students-class-11662150413

The parent of a high schooler in the district, he wanted to see the materials used to train teachers. Mr. Auslander, 54, made a formal document request but was denied. Officials told him the materials couldn’t be shared because they were protected by Pacific Educational Group’s copyright. His only option was to inspect them in person—no copies or photos allowed. “What are you trying to hide?” he asked school board members at a meeting in December.

Mr. Auslander accepted the district’s offer and in February went to inspect the documents in person. When he tried to record voice memos on his phone about what he was reading a district official called it a copyright violation. According to a subsequent complaint filed by Mr. Auslander in federal court, the official threatened him “with civil and criminal liability” if he kept recording. The official then ended the meeting.

Documents emailed from 2019 to 2021 by Pacific Educational Group to district administrators in advance of various training seminars cite critical race theory explicitly. A rubric dated Feb. 4, 2020, encourages participants to “Deconstruct the Presence and role of Whiteness” in their lives. A March 17, 2020, presentation lists “aspects and assumptions of white culture” in the U.S. Some are negative, such as “win at all costs,” “wealth = worth,” “don’t show emotion,” and in reference to food, “bland is best.” Others are seemingly universal principles such as “cause-and-effect relationships,” “objective, rational, linear thinking,” and “plan for future.”

I wonder who's more stupid: you or the person who wrote that article?

I hate to admit this….but I’m not as sophisticated as some around here. I’ve never had Dijon mustard

Whole grain > dijon.  Get some Tin whole grain and slather that shit on a bratwurst with sauteed onions and some kraut.  Fucking glorious.

  6. Wow.  I click on this thread to see that slorch immediately slorch'd it with his idiocy.  So I flip to the last post and in three pages we've moved on to arguing Puritans vs. Pilgrims.  Good job, Surly.  You've outdone yourselves.

How the heck isn’t that at least a yellow? That is clearly dangerous play. I could see a red given, but understand why not. But that’s easily a yellow without even measuring intent.

It should be a red (see, Mane kicking Ederson in the face), but it's the Premier League and it's Man City, so nothing.

Sorry but this rubs me the wrong way.  I have paid off 2 sets of student  loans in my life.  The first was for 40k back in early 2000s.  I took on a second job and paid off 2k a month for 20 months so I know people can pay these loans off. My family was poor as shit but I didn't want this debt hanging over me and my life so I did something about it.  If it wasn't for roe being overturned this would probably at the very least keep me from voting dem ticket this year and in 2024.  There is such a thing as personal responsibility.. Even in your 20s.

You sound like a miserable shit.

To me, it's become a trope. Not every female character just has to immediately be the best at everything because it's a man's world. Doesn't give a lot of room for growth. At least with characters like Wanda, Kate Bishop or Kamala, they had flaws and had to learn tough lessons that helped their characters grow. It's early in the show but I think it's a valid criticism.

Complains about every female character being the best at everything.  Immediately names multiple female characters who weren't immediately the best at everything.  Don't beat around the bush.  If you don't like seeing a woman being better than a man at something, just say it.
