My idiot BIL fell for that shit and bragged about how he talked then down from 10k to 5k to remove the ransom ware they installed after he gave them his ip address. His son/my nephew is equally as stupid.
Reminds me of that time Henry James was bragging about scoring some new car speakers from a random guy in a white van. Instead of paying full price HJ got it for the low low cost of a blowjob. One of those sales that left everyone with a smile.

95 in DFW right now and finished a 45 min hike to pick up my car getting some work done. Thought I would save money on an Uber getting some steps in. Main thing that sucks is how this compares to the weather from the weekend. It was picture perfect and I could work hours in the yard without a drop of sweat. Summers coming and it's going to be coming in dry, no lube.

What's so fucking aggravating is that if we had simply provided steady aid from the start we would be lining up in the victory formation. Maybe not winning a national championship but the equivalent of an unranked team knocking off #2 in the nation. Instead today we have our QB ready to take a knee but instead executes the buttfumble to perfection. Fucking pathetic.

Sorry to hear the news Brisket. Sounds like your old man and my grandad would have gotten along great. He loved to fish too. Neither me or my dad were huge fishermen but all 3 of us would go out on the lake and try our best. One of my earliest memories was being about 4 or 5 when we caught a giant catfish. It was as big as me. All I could do was jump up and down yelling, "Shark! Shark!" That was one of the biggest and best family fish fries that we ever had.
Bet your dad and my Pe-pa are cracking a cold one and reeling in a big one right now.

Anyone watch Putin's speech? Only real statement is he should have invaded Ukraine earlier
One thing that will be interesting to look back once this is all done is the wildcard event of Covid and how it may have greatly influenced these major historical events. Putin was planning this invasion for quite a while but even dictators are subservient to worldwide health epidemics. Whatever timetable he had in mind the pandemic had to be a big hindrance. Plus the disruption to American lives contributed directly to public sentiment souring on Trump and ultimately his bid for reelection. If Covid didn't hit then Trump may have pulled off the reelection and been in the driver's seat whenever Putin finally decided to pull the trigger. The whole sequence of events could have played out quite drastically different. So many what ifs but the timing of a single event may have had longterm consequences similar to maybe when the Divine Winds saved Japan from the Mongol invasions in the 13th century.

Russian police work superior to USA police work. It takes us a good week to nab a Luigi while the Russians already found their killer with a full confession in 24 hours. Amazing!

in Louisiana, there are no punitive damages for that. True, the penalty for bad faith, insurance denial is 50% extra of the dollar amount of the harm you caused an attorney‘s fees. But seriously disabled people have no lost wages or loss of earning capacity claims - they already weren’t working. It might be hard to say that their quality of life got worse, because they were on their way to dying when UHC withheld the drug /treatment that would make them live longer. Are you going to recover something? Possibly.
But big health insurance evil corp will save a couple billion dollars annually by denying claims. Who gives a shit if you have to sprinkle a couple million dollars here and there because somebody finally takes you to the mattresses? You announce record profits and dividends, get the board to give you a huge raise, and do coke off the call girl’s ass on the board room conference table after the shareholder meeting.
9 hours ago, Brisketexan said:This. This is the model. It works, really, really, really well.
Shit, I figured out that was the model when I was a high school age consumer and got utterly fucked by a stereo repair shop (yeah, back in the day when you had stereos you'd get repaired). They fucked me outta $120. It was a small enough amount that even with DTPA laws, it wasn't worth the time or effort to keep fighting it. And I remember bitching to my parents that "even if they get popped one outta ten times, it's still a great profit model for them." Dad knowingly nodded "exactly," and young Brisket suddenly figured out how shit worked.
Now, there COULD be ways for members of the public to address such bullshittery....but these outfits have successfully convinced the American people over the past 40 years or so that we desperately need "lawsuit reform" and such, making a huge swath of meritorious claims -- and the chief mechanism for requiring bad actors to change their conduct -- into nonviable claims that never even get off the launchpad. Your state legislator is eating fancy steak dinners and smoking cuban cigars paid for with the premium dollars you paid for coverage (routed through a lobbyist, of course) instead of those dollars being used to pay your claims. The ROI was great -- the insurers spent $X to buy favorable laws, and as a result, saved/profited 10,000X. This is the part of the process where we remind the people that it's not just that the insurers fuck you, it's that you can't do a goddamned thing about it. Any possible path to seeking a redress of grievances has been so obstructed/removed/obliterated that the insurers are now answerable to no one. Except, of course, to the officials we keep voting for who are well-paid to keep that system firmly in place.
We should insist on better. We should demand our officials allow for a system that gives human beings a voice and power, and we should refuse to vote for people who aren't on board with that. I ain't holding out much hope for that, are you?
So basically the risk/reward ratio is not close to equal. The denial strategy pays off in the billions but the risk for penalties only pay in the millions makes it an easy equation.
I have been fortunate in not having to deal too much with medical situations but as I get older this definitely weighs on me. Been hoping for some type of reform for quite a while...maybe this could be the catalyst for someone on either side of the political spectrum to take the initiative. Seems like an easy win to garner all that public love if they could start aggressively advocating for healthcare reform.

Moving past whether to condone outright assassination attempts is morally acceptable or not...my question is for the Surly legal brigade. If UHC employs a tactic to delay and deny coverage because patients will die first before they can win an appeal does that open them up for potential civil lawsuits? If the families could prove that the failure in coverage directly led to death wouldn't that open up for a windfall in penalties?
Just wondering if hitting them in the pocketbooks could be more effective in beating back that corporate greed. Why isn't that happening? Explain it to me like I'm a third grader.

Damn, I severely underestimated the Russian manufacturing capacity. If they can build a wooden chair to support that Seagal fatass then they could easily refurbish some T-34s into withstanding direct HIMARS hits.

Medusa reporting that the new 2025-2027 budget proposal by the Kremlin is projecting 41% of federal spending to go directly for defense/military. They are sweating public opinion and trying to figure out how to spin this shit stroganoff to the masses.

Interesting news...the richest woman in Russia, Tatyana Bakalchuk, is going through a divorce. Which means in Russia her soon to be ex decides to storm her office and gets in a shootout killing at least two. Basically it is gang vs gang fight as each side's security detail gets in a brawl before bringing out the hardware. Exciting to see the oligarchs starting to rip into each other. Can't wait for the next episode of this Russian telenovela.

Or a combination of everything - also toss in corruption at some point had to mean some shortcuts were taken, even if they weren't obvious. Maybe things were too close together or walls were thinner than they should have been.
Someone else pointed out this RT blurb back in 2018:
oropets /Tver region/, June 2. /TASS/. The arsenal of complex storage of missiles, ammunition and explosives constructed in the city of Toropets of the Tver region meets the highest international standards. This was stated on Saturday to journalists by Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Dmitry Bulgakov, who is on a working trip to the troops of the Western Military District to check the progress of construction of military infrastructure.
“Arsenal allows to hide stockpiles of missiles and ammunition from external influence and ensure their safety and fire safety. The full load of each storage of the arsenal is up to 240 tons, ”said the deputy head of the military department. That is the same General Dmitry Bulgakov who was arrested and imprisoned in 2022 due to corruption charges...

Regarding the US weapons restrictions:
1) Ukraine should have been cleared for full use ages ago.
2) Once they are cleared, the only notification we should have provided is watching Ruskie shit blowing up and down the map while Putin screams "WHAT THE FUCK" into his 1995 speaker phone.
No advanced notification, no big warning, just a big helping of FAFO for them to chew on.

Funny thing is that it was the 7th hottest summer in Austin recorded history. We are forgetting that it used to be much nicer. Check out the 2020s... it is 2024. Got a few more summers to go to dethrone the 2010s. More enjoyable content here - https://www.kxan.com/weather/weather-blog/austin-is-hitting-100-degrees-more-frequently-heres-when-its-most-common/
Further proof that the 70s were the best decade. Makes me want to have a dance party. Less swamp ass and more tight ass shorts.

Quote fail...delete previous msg. Just trying to share article corroborating Miller's info.
Forbes article discusses some of the drone tech advantage on the Kursk front. That allowed them to get the drop on the Ruskies.

It has always been a cat and mouse game between the drones and the jammers. Now it seems we are ahead of the russian jammers and it is now used to the maximum in the Kursk area. Once local air supremacy is achieved our aircraft and FVP attack the enemy defense line. +
5:"Then finally our rangers clears the trenches of what is left. Then the whole front line is moved forward and everything starts from the beginning.
In one of my updates a couple of months ago I called for a major attack by ours to throw the russians off balance. This has now been achieved and we will see consequences on the other fronts as well. +6:"During the day new updates will surely come, but the info blockade is very tight. Deepstatemap today only reports what happened on August 8th so we have three days delay.
If the russians do not stop us within a couple of days, we will probably stay for a longer time. The information I have received indicates that we have functioning maintenance lines and we are advancing along the main roads. The flanks must be widened around our spearheads but our military leadership probably knows that. +7:"Looking at the tactics and the rapid advance, it is clear that this operation has been planned and practiced for some time. It is remarkable that no one noticed anything and that we had the competence to plan, practice and then attack. The follow-up question is of course this: have we had NATO or French instructors with us in the picture?" END

Everyone has been providing some interesting theories but I still don't know the long term objectives in Kursk. What I do know is that any use of maneuverability is going to favor the Ukrainians. They have consistently shown the ability to target the tail of the enemy, taking out logistics, etc. If this is just a temporary push to force Russian troops to redeploy then that is just extra opportunities for the Ukes to use their better coordination, better tech, better intel, to pick apart the enemy reinforcements. Plus this has been proven to be a golden opportunity to nab a good number of prisoners and some headlines just over a couple of days.
Still I do have my concerns about being able to hold ground long-term. Especially if Russia can do some damage with their glide bombs from a distance. I know that may force them to target their own buildings and infrastructure but they really don't give a shit about their own citizens. I am just worried about losing too many Ukrainian men and equipment if the area does not have any good defensive features. Ultimately this is still an attritional war and the primary strategic objective has not changed: dislodging the Russians from Ukrainian territory. Will this offensive help in that regard? Still not sure but god bless these guys for taking a chance to kick Putin in the nads for all the world to see.

Русский корабль - иди нахуй

You know what else keeps me warm? Russian airfields in flames.
"Budanov, what is best in life?"
"To crush your enemy's strategic bomber fleet, see them smoldering before you, and to hear the lamentations of their media mouthpieces."
Also to answer your question about the targeting - reports state that the drones were preprogrammed with attack coordinates. Ukraine intel had everything measured down to a Putin micro penis. That's how they were able to hit without needing any agents in the vicinity. Just a brilliant care package from Ukraine.
