  1. Definitely have the goat while you are there.

And Patagonia is cant miss in my opinion.

One more vote here for Patagonia. If you are a fan of hiking and/or natural beauty, it's an absolute must. The glacier near El Calafate and the hikes from El Chalten (like in the pic above) are amazing.

The areas around Bariloche are great (although the town itself is so-so in my opinion) and the 7 lakes drive is gorgeous.
  2. Dear wine people, I’ve come from the Bourbon thread in peace. I know nothing about wine other than my wife drinks it because she has to deal with me.
She loves Malbecs and other Italian reds I can’t pronounce. My wine palate couldn’t identify grape juice.
Will you recommend me some wines to get her for Christmas. I’d like to keep each bottle under 100 as this would be just a couple bonus presents. But whatever, any recs welcome
If you can get your hands on anything from Achaval Ferrer, they make amazing wines (mostly Malbecs) at a variety of price points. Great quality at both the low end and high end of their range. I think perhaps one of the best Argentinian producers (and I spent a month in Mendoza trying to figure it out!).

Catena Zapata also fits that same bill.

  3. It was exceptional. I’ve had the 95 too and agree it was outstanding. It’s been over 10 years (had it at Lola here in Dallas during a tasting of 95 Napa cabs).
Wine geek story: Several years back I was having a drink at Redd in Yountville, and start making small talk with another guy at the bar. After a couple of drinks it comes out that he is the winemaker at Shafer. It was interesting to pick his brain, especially given he had made what was (and still is) my favorite bottle of all time. Good guy. It was the wine world equivalent of growing up a Cowboys fan and realizing you are having a drink with Roger Staubach.

yea he could go down in flames for sure, but I hope not and he is recruiting well the "Dykes" name and the connections still sell apparently
and it is odd that Morris is recruiting really well at Arkansas even with the shitty season
I thought Dykes might leave pretty quick, but I don't think he is in line for the Tech job no matter what happens with Bro simply because of the "Reagor Dykes" situation and while I realize Sonny has nothing to do with that Tech cannot afford the "appearance" of that right now and I think Tech can afford to get a coach that has proven more than Sonny has (right now Sonny has something to prove if he was lights out this year at SMU it would be different, but I think he needs a few years to prove himself now)
plus I think Tech will probably make a worse hire than Dykes sadly probably someone with even less proven credentials like Littrell (provided Bro is let go this year or next)
I agree that there is no way Tech comes calling if Coach Bro is fired this year. If they hang onto Bro one more year and Sonny gets the 9 wins you referenced (which I think definitely is possible), I think Tech could make a run at him.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Sonny might want to skip Lubbock with all the Spike comparisons, the Reagor thing, and a fan base that thinks they should conference champions each year despite being a middling B12 team in terms of committment, reputation and resources. Sonny just spent a year with Patterson before taking the SMU gig. Building a program while out of the limelight, like Patterson did pre-B12, might be appealing.

  5. This hits close to home. Opened a 99 SHS Sunday for dinner with my brother who came to town.
How was it? 95 SHS is the best wine I have ever had.

  6. You aren't fucking my mom because I talk to her about who each of us is dating.

Secondly - nice tapatalk signature. You sound like a 12 year old desperate for attention.

More likely though - you're a sock taking out personal anger on me.

    I didn't say I was dating her.

And since we're talking about 12 year old behavior, I also didn't call anyone an idiot.

  7. I think SMU has shown some improvement during the season, but there is some work to do
I think there is a pretty good chance that SMU can be a better team next year somewhere around 9 wins
I realize there are a lot of questions about Dykes, but I think if he simply could not coach at all the team would have quit on him by now especially with the bowl game last year, the start this year and the mess they were in after Morris left......I don't think that Morris left SMU with a cohesive team that was built for the long term I think he built a team that was geared to get Morris a better job and to GTFO

Totally agree. He has inherited a weak-ass QB roster and is making the best of it.

Morris was supposed to be the master recruiter, but Dykes already has a better class lined up than anything Chad ever signed. Sonny just might be the guy to build a consistent program here. He also may be the type to stick around awhile (rather than bolt for the first
P5 job opening) after his experience at Cal.

But he could also go down in flames like the many SMU coaches before him.

  8. Sonny Dykes who was our OC under Morris. Not sure I believe in him considering we're playing a bunch of Chad Morris players. But we've been pretty damn good under the radar all season.
    Uh, OC under Morris?
