Beg pardon for asking, but has there been an official estimate of the number of fans attending today’s O&W scrimmage?

I predict at least 1 less than the aggy spring game.  Whoop!

Or, people bail out when they discover almost all are obviously fake, and the few that might be real lack confirming carpet.

We questioned “does the carpet match the drapes?”

Similar size home in central Houston. $150/wk. for two ladies. They work about 4 hours so about 8 total hours of work.

That’s what I’m looking for!  If they have an opening, I’d be pleased to have a referral. I’m in Meyerland.

  4. What is the current rate in Houston for high quality cleaning of a 3400 SF, 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath house?

We terminated the crew that was inadequately cleaning for $125 a week, when they showed up.....  We have now met with two women who each come highly recommended for quality and reliability, and they each quoted $250.  That was a bit shocking,  but based on some of the comments above from two years ago, that may not be out of line.

But I'm a lazy connoisseur. I know to a 95% certainty how to pick a solid bottle of wine at a store with no help that I can take anywhere and enjoy. I have a few cheat codes based on makers, countries, regions, styles, varietals, price points etc. but after that I have a hard time dialing it in. So I make sure I have people around me who can. Which years were great, which makers are better than others? I hear which ones were good and they go in one ear out the other.

I keep the current Wine Enthusiast vintage chart saved as a pdf on my phone.  And, for wines I don't know, I use cellartracker (which is what I use to inventory my cellar) for quick quality assessments.

Prep seems to be the hardest part, from what my wife told me. I'm due.  I have a bidet, so it can't be that bad, can it?

Sadly, there is nothing you can do to prepare your anus for this.  But, along with everything else in your gut, this too shall pass.

NY Deli is good, but the quality is slipping some. I like that’s a full restaurant. Pastrami is pretty good and inexpensive.

The NY Bagel Shop and adjacent deli were bought by a catering company 5 years ago.  One of the two original partners retired at the time of sale, and the other about two years later.  The bagel quality has suffered, but remains the best option in the Hebrew hood.

Makes sense but I think its something different. There is a poster in here that puts it after every wine he posts.

Everyone knows In My Opinion.  But, IMO, that doesn't really fit the context of these posts.  Of course, I was too much a pussy to ask myself....  Thanks Milkman.

I have a buddy who is a geography PhD. He helps build war crimes cases by analyzing imagery to identify mass graves. I have another friend who works on a team to map landslide areas. Obviously, neither job is as important as selling shit, but it pays their bills.

And, I know a geography grad doing related work in the pipeline industry.

The one thing I'd really highly recommend is 2-3 weeknights in Port Angeles to explore Olympic National Park, if you guys are remotely into that sort of thing. The town itself is sleepy but the Olympic Peninsula is just epic.

As it turns out, Seattle and Vancouver has morphed to Seattle, Olympic National Park, and Victoria BC.  Will spend a couple of days in Seattle and then head for the Peninsula.  Still working out the details, but the current plan is to head to Quinault for two nights (Quinault first afternoon, Hoh Rain Forest and Kalaloch beaches day two), drive to Port Angeles on day three, with stops along the way at Sol Duc Falls and Lake Crescent (Spruce RR/Devil's Punchbowl), Hurricane Ridge/Hill on the fourth morning, with the afternoon still up in the air.  One possibility, is to go to a lavender farm in Sequim, but we may be a tad early on lavender bloom.  Then, the next morning, take the ferry to Victoria for one night (whale excursion, Butchart Gardens, and the Royal BC Museum), before returning to Port Angeles the sixth evening.  The next morning, before heading back to Seattle, the plan is to hit Salt Creek Recreation Area to tide pool during a strong negative (-2) low tide.

  11. Am doing initial planning for family trip (wife and almost 17 year old twins) to Seattle and Vancouver CA in June 2024.  There is a long Seattle thread, but I don't see a dedicated Vancouver thread.

How many days is optimal for Vancouver?  What are recommended sights/activities/excursions/restaurants?  Any essential overnight (not day trip) destination?

I'd like to book flights and lodging in the immediate future.  How many days total, excluding bookend travel days?  How many days should we stay in (or base out of) each city?  Any other essential overnight (not day trip) destinations?

Jon Stewart and Tucker Carlson has virtually nothing in common. Keith Olbermann is a more apt comparison. Just full blown propagandists.

“Owning the pubs” in the VP selection  is fine, as long as you win. The answer is Taylor Swift.

For those with elderly parents and kids, these become the reason that many middle aged people end up staying in a location effectively forever. Their elderly parents will never leave, and then eventually you want to be near the kids/grandkids. The cycle perpetuates itself.

If one young-ish parent has a desire to leave Texas, the best path is to convince your kid to go to college out of state. Preferably not in an adjoining state. They live in another state, get married and have kids.

My wife and I married late in life - mid 60s with 16 year old twins (IVF, of course).  My early almost-time-to-get-serious-about-college-plans comments have suggested/encouraged looking at locations that are more politically and climate change friendly than Houston.  With every election, that gets closer to simply commanding "get the fuck out of here!"  My and my wife's parents are deceased, with no strong remaining ties to Houston (or Texas).  We likely retire by the time the kids finish college.  Nothing holding us here.  I hope the kids settle somewhere I'd like to live....
