  1. I admittedly haven’t watched one second of SMU football this season.  I can see their ACC schedule avoided both Miami and Clemson while their one loss was early vs BYU and their best win may be at Louisville.  Not exactly a tested program just looking at the schedule.  Lacking the eye test for me personally, its hard for me to believe SMU’s going to beat even a down Clemson program from their recent lofty heights, but maybe this is SMU’s coming out party

  2. Picking this game is a decision on whether you think Georgia is the team that played in Austin or the Georgia that played in the majority of the rest of their games.  If it’s the Austin showing, Georgia dominated the trenches on “both” sides of the ball even if the Texas DEF showed better than our offense.  That can’t repeat or history will repeat

GD PTSD surfacing. I remember a critical game against CU back in the Big 12 days, coulda been for the championship, when our O came out and crammed the ball down CUs throat by running it. We scored two TDs before they knew what hit 'em - focusing on the run. We are at the CU forty or thirty, headed for our third TD, when GD calls for a sideways pass from Chris Simms. It's intercepted and returned to like the five yard line, CU gets its TD. So, even though we're still up a TD, their score pushes GD into catch up mode, and practically every drive after that was pass oriented, and they ended up beating our ass.

Sark needs to figure out early what's working and build on that. That's gotta be his plan, anyway. This season has shown that he's capable of keeping us in the lead as long as his game plan isn't littered with turnovers.

Is that the year someone lost (Miami maybe?) moments before The Big XII title game kicked opening the door for Texas to clinch National Championship Game with a win and they didn’t seize the opportunity?

  4. Nothing says “Who gives a shit?” more than an Iowa State vs Arizona State conference title game.  You definitely have to respect what Matt Campbell has done with the Iowa State program the past decade as it was in the toilet most of Texas’ time in The Big XII, but the hard truth is the rest of the country outside of those programs just won’t be interested.  That stated, I could easily see Iowa State being a popular 1st RD Cinderella we’re they to win today and make the playoff. As for the rest of the traditional Big XII, probably wasn’t a great sign that (4) of the conference’s contending teams year one were ex-PAC 12 and BYU

  5. What I saw on those replay breakdowns was the Georgia pass rush pushing the UT O-line back 5 yards (often w/ only (4) D-linemen engaging) creating the creases for the LB’s and safeties to blitz

  6. There’s really no sugar-coating that Georgia dominated both lines of scrimmage earlier this season in Austin.  Because of that combined with a schedule that featured 6 of the 7 teams at the bottom of The SEC standings plus A&M & a .500 Michigan team now clearly a shell of its Harbaugh glory days, critics can openly question how tested this 11-1 Texas team really is, and will continue to do so if history repeats in Atlanta next week.  I think both Georgia and Texas have questions at QB (for teams w/ National Championship aspirations), and defenses that can capitalize on those QB questions.  Texas’ O-line simply can not be pushed around again like they were in Austin or the result will be more of the same.  As I’ve stated many times, any doubts I have about the offensive side of the ball this season are matched by near supreme confidence in our defense to compete with anybody, even this Georgia team that was able to run effectively against them.  Can Sark gleam anything from tape of Ole Miss’ win over Georgia?  Georgia’s Alabama loss came mostly on the 1st half efforts of Milroy using his feet, something Texas QB’s didn’t remotely come close to replicating.  Texas is a good team, a very good team, and a contender.  But the mountain top will require topping multiple teams like this one over the next month.  May as well start now
