  1. Exactly. My great aunt was a bus driver for a small town a little more than an hour outside of Abilene. She said sometimes stops were 5 miles apart.
  2. In rural areas the bus stops at each individual house.
  3. Was definitely confused about why they would hide in the tub just because somebody drove up the driveway. I have never lived in a rural area though.
  4. Or the illegal labor on his farm that was documented in a great article posted here a while back. I wonder what his Texags handle is?
  5. Dotard was dotard. Pure fear mongering. Pelosi looked so ridiculous that I didn’t hear what she said. Chuck did a good job.
  6. That was a weird 15 minute rant about random cases involving illegal immigrants. Strange.
  7. It would be a pretty solid troll to pass these out then post the info of the people that filled it out on the internet. I would add a space for Texags handle.
  8. It has about 10 billion(?) in it now. How much do we realistically need?
  9. Agree on all of that. 12 schools are on the aisd list. The district would have done it long ago but it’s a political nightmare. The budget is bad enough now that it’s worth the fight.
  10. 1. As an AISD employee, this is a huge need. The system is broken with us paying almost 700 million a year to the state while teachers with 10 years and a masters degree still make less than 50k. New out of college teachers in other Texas cities are starting off making more. 2. The legislature is still full of clowns and I have no faith that they will fix the problem with a solution that doesn’t involve teaching that Jesus punched trans people while riding a dinosaur.
  11. Since this has turned into a “how fucked are we as a country” thread along with the dotard one, I will cheer you up with the same sentiments that I have in the past. Brisket is correct that we will be saddled with cancer that is the trumpists long after he has eaten his last well done steak with ketchup. However, there is one state that can lead the way in changing the entire country for the better. Most of us are lucky enough to live in Texas and be on the front lines of the fight. Let’s just start with the obvious. The electoral college has sucked for the democrats and you can’t dream up a scenario where they lose when Texas flips. The GOP may hang on to their terrible ideas while Texas is still light purple, but they will be abandoning their policies that look like they came from a Texags think tank long before Texas turns blue. Almost all politicians are about self preservation above all else and will change with the political winds. This will shift the national GOP dynamic for the better. Although the long term outlook is great, the road will be bumpy. The Texas Republican Party will be nasty and corrupt in their attempt to hold onto power. There are people like dan Patrick that will not bend with the wind and will double down on hatred. And even when republicans can’t win a statewide office in Texas, our legislature will have some rural clowns that will do everything they can to gum up the works. It will be a long fight, but we get to be on the front lines and we will win and the current GOP will be DOA.
  12. I didn’t even know that was a trump tax component to the dna test until this thread. Pretty much a failure and trump win as far as perception goes. We need someone that will do better with this stuff although all will be subjected to an inordinate amount of fake bullshit.
  13. This. The way forward is the way Beto ran his campaign. It’s based heavily on personal interaction, effective fund raising, and a positive message. Also a great ground game.
  14. Pretty sure east Texas isn’t the research triangle that he’s talking about. Only one they know is the one you ring when you yell come and get it!!!
  15. I would agree with 41. 43 had a Texan vibe.
  16. I think you devote about 20 seconds to laughing him off as an embarrassment then immediately turn to positivity and hope. People are looking for that right now and they will vote for the guy selling it. Biden and Beto would be the best at this IMO. Preference would be Biden announcing his candidacy with Beto at his side as his running mate. Put him to work in every coffee shop in the Midwest for the next two years and sail into the whitehouse.
  17. At Christmas the kids, who are all in their 30s, revisited an old topic with my FIL. All the kids are pro pot legalization even though many are conservatives. FIL has always given us doomsday scenarios. He asked how Colorado was doing sarcastically as the topic had been brought up a few years ago. When we explained that the economy was great he was incredulous and assured us that the negative effects would just take longer to kick in. “Just wait 20 years” If he were around in 20 years and the economy is doing well, he still wouldn’t admit fault. He would say it was some other factor that caused it. Perfect example of black/white with pot being bad no matter what and nobody is ever going to convince him otherwise. Even very clear, research based evidence. Yet libs are the emotional ones....
  18. I’ve been once and just sat at the bar. I thought the food was good and have been meaning to go back. A friend knows the owner and he is in there working his ass of just about everyday.
  19. We had Joe Straus but he was run out. Now we just have grandpa Sid Miller posting racist memes that he probably doesn’t even understand.
  20. That number will change when there is a specific baby killing, illegal immigrant supporting, socialist, commie, tranny that wants your kids to be gay, hate Jesus, America, and kicks puppies he is running against.
  21. Trumps base has exactly zero issues they care about. It’s all about being offensive and owning the libs. #tiredofwinning #libtears #lockherup #whosegoingtopayfor it?
  22. This is exactly right and it seems to be worse with the olds that I know. There has been so much change in the world that it’s easier just to block out a lot of things and dig your heels in. Everything is black and white to them and any attempt to show them shades of grey is met with hostility. Many that I know exist in an alternate reality where their only sources of news act as a confirmation bias. Youngs are far from perfect but seem to accept that the world is a rapidly changing place and they don’t have the option of just refusing to adapt. Politicians such as Beto are starting to catch on and not even engage with those people. Your time is better spent with people that are still open to new ideas.
  23. Based on my in-laws family Christmas party, this is spot on. They are still living in a different reality and can’t understand why I’m not up in arms about the trans child molesters that they heard about on the (Fox) news. They are terrified of the world now with cultural changes and technology that they don’t understand. They can’t fathom that any of it might be good. Another quick example is uber. It’s fast, cheap, safe, reduces drunk driving, helps disabled people get around, and provides part time work to a lot of people that want/need it. They thinks it’s level 10 dangerous and should be banned.
  24. My BIL got swiffer sheets from my MIL. Can’t wait to see what the morning brings for me....
