We’ll have to see. In Ryan Day’s call in show last week a caller asked him about taking the hall first if they won the toss and he said it was something they were thinking about. We all know the conventional thinking. But with fewer possessions, maybe the thinking is that it’s even more to your advantage to score first and put the pressure on the other team. Maybe you don’t want to give your opponent a chance to take a lot of time off the clock. It’s uncharted territory and it’s obviously something coaches are thinking about. It’s a different approach. It’s a thing to pay attention to and see what happens.

I guess I can see the argument that it's a bit tougher to come back late.  Think I'd still take the ball first in the 2nd half.

Illinois has a nice opening drive, has to settle for a FG…attempt…which sails wide left.

They won the coin toss and opted to receive. tOSU did that last week because of the new clock rules limiting possessions (but not the length of games in real time). I wonder if many teams are doing that. Something I’ll be watching for today.

Guess I don't understand how the clock changes matter if you are starting on offense 1 half either way.

He certainly knows how to play to his audience.  Good stuff hearing him dump on A&M.

I think this is a good test case. If these conferences can make more money with only the teams from the P5+Big East that Miss the NCAA tournament, than they currently make from the NIT then that speaks volumes about how the next huge realignment saga may unfold (NCAA tournament better look out).

ESPN has NIT rights so they and ACC wouldn’t likely participate unless this gets popular/profitable.

I think this may be testing the market. Could totally see FOX/ESPN teaming up on a top 64 FBS+Big East Conference basketball invitational. It would make more sense to have first week tournament games on FOX/ABC/ESPN/FS1/ESPN2/FS2/ESPNU…than CBS/TNT/TBS/Tru

    Basketball not football.

I was very underwhelmed by the noise/intensity level inside the stadium. Maybe they really are a genteel Suh-thuh-nuh crowd or maybe all the winning has gotten boring, but for the most part it was a pretty lame crowd. Friends In Low Places was way more rowdy than most third downs….

Watching it on TV is was really surprised how quiet they were when Texas was trying to convert 3rd and 4th downs in the 4th quarter.

Dude got a bad rap from all the body-language experts last year but by all accounts is a kid who works his ass off and wants to be great. He's going to have a huge game tomorrow.
