But he has lots of bands around his arms!!!  We have to play him!

I think you’re mixing up Ovie with Overshown. Overshown wears lots of armbands. He also records lots of tackles and we do indeed have to play him.

Great video if you haven't watched his content. His answer (granted sometime ago), no, not even close.

That's a great but long listen. Key takeaway, loosely quoted: "Running out of stinger missles is like a bar running out of Bud Light. It's probably an inconvenience for someone, but there are plenty of alternatives and almost all of them are better."

Well, they did have nukes until 1994 until us and the West convinced them to get rid of them in exchange for a promise that we would always be there in case Russia ever did something like this...

With friends like us, who needs enemies?

This keeps getting repeated but it is inaccurate. Security assurances can mean a lot of things. In the Budapest Memorandum the security assurance basically meant "we will respect your sovereignty and will not attack you". That's a lot different than "we will defend you".

If you want a longer explanation of our "assurances" click here

I'm confused here. This seems like China is standing up against Russia... Is there some twist that I'm not getting.

First thought on the “twist” is when the Chinese government references “territorial integrity” they’re reiterating they believe Taiwan is and should be part of China.

Rodney King / John Lennon / Stupid questions thread....

"Why don't we, like, ask Russia to join NATO too, man?"

Supposedly Clinton and Putin actually discussed this, though I doubt either side was truly sincere or that Putin had noble intentions when he raised the subject.

The question I have is did he cross the line of scrimmage and then get pushed back behind it. That would have seemed to make it illegal. But it was close.

It was close, but he definitely crossed the line of scrimmage before getting pushed back.

It does not matter how he reacted at that loss. Why? Saban had already won a title with LSU. Nick Saban was already an NFL head coach. Kids know Nick gets people to the league and was a HC in the league. They are gonna listen. Not everyone will get that much rope. Did it work for Tom?

I wasn't saying it doesn't matter how he reacted to the loss; I was saying people shouldn't rush to judgement based upon the press conference (especially since he acknowledged mistakes and didn't come across as defensive a la Mack). What matters is how he addresses the team and the mistakes behind closed doors.

Win, win and win some more then you can talk like this and nobody will talk about how dangerously old fashioned you are.  Until then you gotta do that kind of work behind the scenes.  Sark was fine today for where the program is and where he is as a coach.

Exactly. And for all the comparisons to Saban, I'd be curious to see his press conference responses and demeanor when Alabama lost to Louisiana Monroe at home in his first year at Alabama. It's a lot easier (and more effective) to rip your players after winning by a large margin against a patsy; a different response is required when your players just got publicly humiliated (and they know it).

This one seems fishy. A couple of robbers would have better odds of a bigger score if they simply went a couple of blocks west and waited for some unsuspecting housewife to waltz out of Tiffany or something. Doing it in daylight when the odds of them being identified would be higher, also seems odd.

I wonder if it was a hit on the cop with a few wallets/watches/whatever lifted in the process to provide a smokescreen.

I agree - most criminals might be stupid but this one doesn't add up. The fact that a police officer was killed and that it occurred on one of Fertitta's properties leads me to believe the culprits will definitely be caught, but I wouldn't be surprised if their punishment gets administered outside a court of law.

Texas Monthly writer doesnt know which part of the state is home to TCU? West Texas farmers and ranchers dont gaf about froggy.

That article is from 1974; a lot has changed since then. TCU opposed Tech joining the SWC in 1958 because they considered everything west of DFW their territory. And with no Dallas Cowboys until 1960, I think he's generally right that it was common for people in west Texas with no real ties to any colleges to be TCU fans.

Getting the date of the SEC move settled would help a lot too.

Nobody likes uncertainty and besides OU, our competition can take advantage.

This. Say what you want about Sark's ability to close but after years of UT coaches (and months for the current staff) having to counter the SEC pitch, the move only affirms what the SEC coaches have been selling to our recruits. Until the timeline moves up from 2025, the announcement might actually make recruiting harder.

What led Arkansas to leave and go to the SEC? TV money?

Yes, Arkansas correctly saw that the SWC wasn't viable because of its small TV footprint and the strong presence of the NFL in Texas. UT saw it too, and UT officials even told Arkansas officials they needed to go first to provide cover for UT to make a move since politically UT couldn't be the school to blow up the conference.

The SEC's courtship of UT has been going on for over 30 years.

  13. All anyone claiming Texas killed the SWC needs to know is Arkansas wanted Texas to join them in the move to the SEC in 1990, and so did the SEC. Anyone claiming Arkansas was trying to get away from evil UT doesn't know what they're talking about.

Looks like  the aggy BOR scheduled a second meeting for Wednesday.   Agenda basically the same as Monday’s.

    https://www.tamus.edu/regents/wp-content/uploads/sites/28/2021/07/AGENDA-July-28-2021-Special-BOR-Meeting.pdf

Probably because they aggy'd up their initial meeting announcement/agenda by putting the wrong date on it. Agendas need to be posted 72 hours in advance, so this could just be the same meeting they intended to hold tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if there's an announcement that the meeting tomorrow has been "postponed".

SEC prolly took Aggy thinking if we can make inroads into Texas with those weird fucks then Texas and OU will join eventually. Like 4D chess where they want one thing but start by acting like they want something else. Diversionary tactics. That’s all Aggie is and ever will be. Second rate shit. That’s all. Fuck em. Gig your assholes bubbas Texas is here and you’re back to fucking around with Arky for 5th best at who the fuck cares. Bhwhahahahaha.

Yup - aggy was simply bait and the SEC just landed the whale it has been chasing since 1990.
