Rumor is Mari wanted a comparable NIL deal to what Stafford is getting…
We’ll be young again in the middle unless Elliott goes after an experienced MB in the portal but don’t know if there is anyone.
If not, Bunton is finally healthy and looked much improved in the spring matches.
Also FR Taylor Harvey will be coming in the fall.

Texas hired its new Associate Head Coach, Ben Josephson.
He's the former AC from Kentucky and a former setter, so hopefully, we'll see improvements from Swindle.

If FL setter Alexis Stucky hits the portal, I hope Texas goes after her. She would excel with the ball control and passing we now have.
-
Dan Meske was my first choice for the Associate Coach position right after Sullivan was announced as the USWNT coach.
Getting Meske from Louisville and OH Stafford from Pitt would be a major coup by JE.

Yeah, I know Sullivan was in charge of scouting opposing offenses and setting up schemes for the block and backrow defense. So whoever is hired will have similar responsibilities.
Just would be an added bonus if that person also had actual experience in improving setting and ball control techniques.

Need a coach that can continue the MBU legacy (especially in blocking) and improve backrow defense/ball control.
If s/he can also coach up setting technique, I'd be ecstatic.

Honestly even if we don't get Stafford, I think we'll still be pretty strong at the pins with Whitney, Devin, Cari, and AVW.
The ball control was really the issue with the pins, but getting Gary has definitely alleviated some of the concerns.
The biggest issue next season IMO is improving Ella's setting to all the hitters, especially to the MBs.

Gonna be interesting to see what that does with emerick. Her BF is not playing at UT now and will head to minors. Elliot burned her shirt. Kinda sucks for the kid if she wants to play.
We need the best backrow players on the court.
Emerick will have a year of collegiate experience over incoming freshman Krueger...so if she is good enough, she will see the court since we'll be utilizing the 3 defensive "littles" again.
-
Yeah, it would be stupid for any program not to go after Stafford, regardless of what they currently have on their roster or what incoming recruits they are bringing in.
I still think it's imperative to get an experienced DS/L from the portal as well.
With how the Carlson transfer went down, I doubt there will be a setter wanting to compete with Ella for the starting position.

Both teams are led by freshmen setters, so just following Ella’s footsteps in setting their team to a natty as a frosh
Another fun fact. Louisville’s setter is the little sister Naomi Cabello who was a setter at Texas for 2 years (Jhenna Gabriel beat her out) before transferring to NC State.

Fun fact. Penn State’s NFOY setter Izzy Stark, her mom played volleyball at Texas.
I doubt there was any interest since we had Ella coming in the year before, but was just really impressed with her setting and overall play last night.
-
Rumor on VT is that Nebraska's volleyball NIL collective landed Eva Hudson from Purdue...gonna be interesting to see the fall out that occurs with his Cook's current roster and incoming recruits
-
Really impressed with PSU's Jess Mzurik's overall play.
And Harper really cursed her team saying they were gonna win the next 3...
-
I just hope Swindle does whatever is necessary in the off-season to improve her setting.
Really miss seeing Ella’s presence at the net and just shows that you need a setter that can block the further you go in the tournament.
And 3 elite littles in the backrow…

OH Jordyn Byrd and DS/L Brennan Ramirez are in the portal.
That gets the roster down to the NCAA limit of 18.
Add OH Sydney Helmers and RS Auburn Tomkinson to the list.

Not having a 3rd elite DS in the backrow really hurt this team.
Because Ella having to set while chasing errant passes is a disaster and takes her out of the offense when she is in the front row. That's one reason Carlson took over at setter...she's able to locate the ball on the run better, but the trade-off with that is her block is going to get abused.
But even with good passes, Ellas struggled with her location. The only difference between this season and last year's tournament run was that she wasn't jump-setting. So that's on the coaching staff.
Combine that with new middle blockers who struggled closing the block all season, Wenaas being Wenaas (such a streaky player), and Madi going through her mid-season funk really just foreshadowed how the season was going to end.

Great ball control from both teams

SO MUCH BETTER
Yeah, coaches need to have a serious conversation with Swindle and train her to set flat-footed if it's going to improve her overall location and tempo... we definitely miss her blocking and attacking from the front row.

I still don't really understand Carlson over Swindle either.
Reset and on to next year.
Hopefully we can make a good run in Halter's last year.
Ella needs to set clean, consistent balls where the hitters don't have to significantly make adjustments in their approach...

I'd say Skinner has less. Other than the attack.
You can live with Skinner in the back row just for her attack

Agree. Singletary is good but she wasn't putting up All-American numbers.
Mari can hammer the ball when she has an open net, but she really didn't have much shot selection variation as a middle hitter. And I always thought she hit the slide attack on the way down from her approach, instead of hitting it at the apex. She never hit over the block with the slide attack like McCage, Chiaka, or Asjia.
Her blocking was good when the other team was out-of-system, but she was so slow to read the opposing setter in in-system plays.
Ames looked much improved in her footwork in closing the blocks this spring.
Bunton was probably the quickest out of all them moving laterally, but her offense is still a work in progress.
But it may not matter that much as I think the pins will carry the team offensively next season. We just need the MBs to block well.
