  1. I’m pretty sure she’s going to UCLA…it’s the only place that she visited where she posted things on her IG. And FWIW, someone on VT stated she liked UT’s facilities but wasn’t confident in the coaching stafff…but that’s VT for ya
  2. And Madison Williams follows Cabello to NC State. The new coach was the USA WNT assistant coach that helped USA win its first indoor gold last summer. He’s getting some high quality transfers and will turn that program around very soon.
  3. Madi would have 3 years if she decides to use her Covid year.
  4. She’s had success in everything she’s done professionally so I’m excited to see how she does as a head coach. I wouldn’t be surprised if she picks up our potential assistant coach options…she’s well-liked and respected by both coaches and players…it’s gonna be interesting to see what direction Jerritt goes with his AC pick.
  5. Or hire an assistant coach that will train the shit out of the L/DS’s to be able to do both…
  6. Yeah, that’s why I didn’t understand why Jerritt let Cabello go. He could have had SKT and Cabello compete for the spot and told Jhenna that she can get her Master’s and NIL it as a DS for next fall. Cabello and Swindle could then battle it out in ‘23 and at least we would have had an experienced Texas setter on the roster… But as others have pointed out, the setter position seems more abundant in the transfer portal so maybe Jerritt is banking on that for ‘23.
  7. Jhenna stated in an interview ( Out-of-System) that she disliked coming in as a DS and even worse as a serving substitute. She’s a good defensive digger but her strength is not serve-receive passing which is what would be needed as a DS in Jerritt’s system.
  8. wow! they must have shelled out the $$$ for her! good for her!
  9. Yeah, I completely agree. I haven’t rewatched the match against Nebraska, but i didn’t understand why Jerritt switched back to Gabriel in the 4th set after SKT changed the dynamic and won that 3rd set. SKT was putting up a bigger block and Batenhorst wasn’t able to just abuse the block like she had been with Jhenna until she was reinserted in the line-up. I suppose Logan and Asjia had timing issues hitting SKT’s sets but it seemed like it was something they could have adjusted to eventually… In any case, Iosia laid an egg that match, but her serve-receive was so up and down during the season, so i wasn’t surprised…just wish it didn’t have to happen in a home regional final match… I would like to see SKT take over full-time and would have liked to have seen Iosia play next to Fleck at Libero. But with Jerritt reaching out to Club coaches we probably won’t see the latter. I’m hoping Parra has an Amy Neal-like senior season next fall and feel more comfortable with Devin on the right pin after watching her perform in the Under Armour match.
  10. Middleton will be a force on the left pin, but as a freshman, she will still have to adjust to passing 6 rotations and dealing with a collegiate block. The Texas block of Singletary and Devin shut her down several times in the recent Under Armour match. Faumina was decent in passing and ok at setting but doesn’t look like a terminal hitter from what I’ve seen of her. She was at one point ranked higher than Devin, but Devin has played at a much higher level than her since making the U18 WNT. Faumina will most likely back up their current setter Tuaniga IMO. Ariail has recently torn her ACL for the 2nd time (Nobember) so if history is any indication, a lot of players have a hard time returning to their previous form after multiple tears. But they did pick up a good MB transfer from Notre Dame, so at least 1 solid MB position should be accounted for. I still think their biggest issue will be passing since they lost their main passers (Botkin and Scully) to graduation. And Skylar will be given the opportunity to pass there as I’m sure she was promised as a condition for her transfer, but I guarantee opponents will serve her off the court (at least that should be any game plan).
  11. I think the additional Covid year messed with the timeline with some players. Logan and Jhenna should be done at Texas in reality with the option to Grad transfer somewhere else. That would have left Skylar, Madison, and Parra to compete on the pins with the incoming freshman (Devin and Kenna)… and then Skylar may have been able to play 6 rotations like she wanted. SKT and Fleck would have both been able to grad transfer to Texas, and Cabello and Iosia would have competed with those 2 for their respective spots. But perhaps the players are realizing Jerritt’s inability of improving ball control/defensive touches and making in-game adjustments. They were one match away from winning it all just a year ago…so maybe they are seeing his deficiencies? The only thing that changed from that year was having a well-trained, skilled libero in Morgan O’Brien. But it is quite disconcerting that we now have two #1 ranked players that have transferred out of the program because they believed they could be developed better elsewhere. Jerritt definitely deserves credit for his successes at Texas, but he may need to make more changes in his coaching philosophy/training to adjust to the times and his players.
  12. Rumor is Iosia is wanting to go back home to Cali, so he’s probably in the market for another Libero/DS in addition to OH and/or MB.
  13. Gotta love that Fleck actually teaches her own Libero camps on the side...hopefully she will coach up the back row this upcoming season! I'm interested to see who Elliott brings in for the Assistant Coach position. I was thinking maybe Pendergast would be an excellent option but she continues to still be recruiting hard for UCLA...although it would be ironic if both Fields and Skinner decided to transfer there and then she left... I'm sure he and the SA's would like a female coach to add to the staff...but I hope he just hires someone who will take over the ball control/defense and moves Erik to training the OHs and offense.
  14. I think she would be a good get. She’s a good recruiter and can coach up the ball control/passing. I think she should take over Erik’s defensive duties, and he can train the OHs and work on the offense. He was an OH before becoming a libero for the USA NT.
  15. I agree that Jerritt would rather avoid over-passes, but it’d be a whole heck of a lot different if the passing wasn’t consistently behind the 10’ line…he now doesn’t have a leaper in the gym anymore to go over the block, so he’s going to have to train passing closer to the net to run a more diverse offense next season. He should be training that anyway…the elite teams know just to camp out on Texas’ left side-hitters when the pass is beyond the 10’ line.
  16. I’m curious to see who Elliott is considering for the vacant assistant coach position. It looks like he is going to need someone to handle the offensive systems and recruiting duties. I was hoping for someone who can actually develop the team’s passing/ball control. But according to Erik’s bio: On the Forty Acres, Sullivan works with the Horns’ liberos and middle blockers, while developing Texas’ team defensive systems and scouting reports. While the blocking from the MB position has typically been one of Texas’ strengths, Erik has done a piss poor job in developing the libero and DS positions and overall ball control at Texas. If anything, he should have been the one to move on IMO. Since it looks like Erik isn’t going anywhere, I hope Jerritt hires a coach that runs an offensive system that requires excellent ball control from the back row….maybe that will light a fire under Erik’s ass to actually do his job.
  17. Very true. I think that’s more of a function of passing than anything. It’s hard to run the middles if the passing is consistently behind the 10‘ line.
  18. Rumor is once Skylar officially entered the portal with no intention of returning to Texas, Jerritt reached out to the Houston Skyline club recruiting coordinator that he was looking for a 6-rotation OH with NCAA experience to replace her. That same day Madi Skinner entered the portal. Some are suggesting it was no coincidence. If true, Madi Skinner would be an excellent OH to replace Skylar. She’s 6’2, plays all 6 rotations, can pass the ball, and leaps out of the gym. She can play on either pin and totally shredded us from the right pin in the National Championship match. A line-up of Eggleston, Parra, and Skinner at the pins (with a 6’4 Devin to sub in for a bigger block) in a faster offense would be exciting to watch. Jerritt needs to close this deal with whatever NIL deal he can bring to the table…
  19. Definitely would prefer Morrison back, but I think Jerritt goes with a female coach of color. Salima returning would be awesome, but I think I read somewhere that all the required associate/assistant duties, especially the recruiting aspect, took so much time away from her family. I think she is happy with her broadcasting duties both for NCAA volleyball and internationally with FIVB. Eckerman seems to be an up and coming assistant coach who would coach the hell out of attacking, but who would coach ball control and passing?!?
  20. Regarding the setter position, this is what I don’t get. Both SKT and Gabriel are done next season. And then Swindle is coming in, but she’s the only one on the ‘23 roster as of now. Jerritt should have kept Cabello and SKT for next season…and given Jhenna the boot or at least told her she’s going back to the DS position she originally was recruited for. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely thankful to have had Jhenna here, especially after Shook couldn’t locate a set to save her life…but now Jerritt’s going to have to go back into the portal when he could have had Cabello on the roster who knows the system and would have competed with Swindle. Because the thing with freshman setters, it’s hard for them to immediately adjust to collegiate volleyball and run a new system with new hitters. Swindle’s going to be in the same position as Shook, coming in with the same accolades and technical training…but who knows how she really is going to perform? At least with Cabello, he could have had a setter with program experience on the roster…and have to have a minimum of 2 setters, especially if one goes down with an injury. As for Fields, I don’t think there is going to be anyone in the Transfer Portal that will match her firepower…I think Jerritt needs to go with maybe a smaller hitter with good ball control skills to spell Melanie if she starts having in-match breakdowns. Right now, her only replacement would be Kenna Miller, but she doesn’t even play back row for HS or club. Devin’s most likely going to be OPP with Singletary backing her up and the middles if either are injured. The team depth isn’t looking good right now. But It really likes look the offense is going to need to be sped up, like when Amy Neal and Paulina Prieto-Cerame were the OHs, for Texas to be successful next season. The high-ball outside set doesn’t complement Parra’s game, but both she and Eggleston can terminate a faster set. But that means the team is going to have to have good ball control….maybe it will happen?
  21. While Hord would be an excellent transfer, I'd rather move Molly to the MB position. She just doesn't have the arm to terminate out-of-system sets to the right pin. I do think she has a fast enough arm swing to run the quick and the gap sets, so she may not "kill" a ball like Butler, but she'll score points in a different way. Last night's championship match showed the importance of ball control and being able to get the ball up to the setter near the net to run a diversified offense and to have terminal right and left pin hitters. Fleck should help Texas' most important need in ball control, but we also need a terminal right pin hitter. I think Devyn can fill that role.
  22. Someone "close" to the situation on VT says it's because she wants to play 6-rotations and that will be a condition to the transfer. I'm pretty sure that was Lexi's as well when she entered the portal.
  23. Jerritt used to be hot-tempered, slam his clipboard, and would berate players coming off the court who weren't playing well or were making mistakes...saw him do it to Lexi several times. But after she left, I haven't seen him be that way. So I'm hoping you're right...
  24. I always thought Skylar should have been playing as a 6 rotation opposite....that's her most natural position IMO. If players like Skylar and Lexi (both #1 recruits coming out of high school) are leaving because they feel they aren't receiving the training to get developed in the backrow, then Jerritt and his staff seriously need to start making changes.
  25. WTF is going on? Skylar is going to be a big loss. Iosia also took down Texas Volleyball and her jersey # from IG, so she's probably next. Madison was expected she hasn't received any playing time for the past 2 years...
