And I believe Tech itself is like 1-16 against Texas over the past few years. The win (not against TK, of course) came because we kicked the ball around like a Pee Wee soccer team and hit a batter who was probably about to K.

Texas lost to Tech in 8 innings, with a no-hitters going into the 8th and 19K’s, with CO pitching. It was a crazy game.

Yeah was 6 games but similar run

Keira Goerl carried UCLA to a WCWS championship in 2003. They lost to Cal in the first round, and she pitched all 47 innings, including a 9 inning no hitter vs Cal for the championship. But it was a one game winner take all game, not the 3 game series we have now. They beat Texas twice along the way, as well.

I've seen it done for seniors playing their last game or boxers/ MMA fighters fighting their last fight.   Can't say I have seen the baseball/softball one a lot.

Yes, that is common! Often they position their cleats to correspond to their position in the field. Or, leave them on the pitching rubber in one case in particular. I have that picture somewhere.

she is crazy good.  If the wiki is correct, since they moved the mound back, 2012 I think, no pitcher has finished a 4 year career with an era below 1.00.  she is well below that.

The circle was moved back for college well before 2001, and I am pretty sure Osterman’s college career ERA was 0.5. High school moved to 43’ in 2012.  Her high school ERA was lower, but don’t recall exactly.

  5. For those that would rather rotate the location of the WCWS, if you are tuned in today notice the size of the crowd for a loser bracket game. The stadium holds something like 13K and it’s packed! (And neither team is from Oklahoma or Texas right now.) In all of our years coming up here (20+) OKC has become a destination for this sport. The stadium is phenomenal and the city has grown around the event. And the USA Softball staff busts butt to make it a great experience.

I agree the field is too small - I don’t think as many fly balls should be automatic outs either, i think poorly hit balls should be more opportunities for double plays. I also think they can handle 9 innings. I have the same view about tennis, wtf men grand slams are 5 sets and women stay at 3 (men at at 3 for most other tournaments).

And while we are at it, make the ball smaller, raise the mound, and pitch overhand. 🤷🏻‍♀️
