OkSt vs Cal St Northridge, now on ESPN+.
Texas St defeated UTSA 2-1 with freshman LHP Madison Azua from Round Rock.
Azua did a great job, too, for first game of the season, her first collegiate game. Threw the whole game, 11 or 12 K’s and no walks. Some jitters first inning, but nice job after that.

Speaking of, what’s Cat doing back in Texas tonight? We need her back in OKC, where she’s been! CDC, send the plane!
In studio, in Austin, for pre-game.

Just curious, is there such a thing as a late bloomer in this sport? Do they all end up at lower level schools or do girls get trap-doored at the big schools like boys do in football?
At 13 years old, no coach would have looked twice at a 5’6”, 100 lb skinny kid from west Houston who had only been pitching 2 years. Yes Virginia, there are late bloomers! 😁

Agreed, but it was a different game in those days. 40' pitching distance made hitting damn near impossible.
It was 43’ when she was there.

Why did we not keep Simpson in?
Limiting the looks they get on her maybe?

Fun little fact - Jessie Allister was Catherine’s catcher in travel ball and was behind the plate when they K’d 11 Olympians in 5 innings on the Central Park to Sydney tour! Catherine was going into her senior year at CSHS and Jessie was at Stanford. Jessie called the pitches. The Cruisers lost 1-0, after the other pitcher was put in for the final two innings.

Thanks for the correction to 6AM.
Hope you’re all up and ready to send all the positive vibes!

Yes, game time is 6:00AM, Central. On NBC Sports. And I would think a certain Longhorn would start the game, and the Vol probably close it out. Send all the positive vibes!

Ehh, it’s no different than Nebraska making the CWS, and I believe the NCAA track championships are alway at Oregon.
Ou has a great program and a great coach who has built that program. I think they won in 2000 and didn’t start getting back to the championship game again until 2012. Gasso found something (whatever it was) since 2012 and they’ve just been rolling.
Does being in okc help? It doesn’t hurt. Would anyone here want the tournament moved out of San Antonio if Texas had won 4-5 NCs there in the last 10 years?
2000 (won), 01, 02, 03, and 04, 11, 12, 13 (won), 14, 16 (won), 17 (won), 18, 19
They definitely have picked it up over the last 10 years.

I hate the fact that the World Series is basically a home game for OU. They need to rotate the location. They'll get to sleep in their own beds. Not even mentioning the huge partisan crowd.
I think that as well, but digging into stats doesn’t bear it out, sort of. They have been to the WCWS 13 times, 6 times in the final game, losing twice (2012 to Bama and 2019 to UCLA). So 7 times they didn’t make it all the way, even though they had “home field advantage”. But the stadium was way smaller in 2000 when they won the first one. And Patty definitely does use it as a recruiting tool. With the massive seating additions over time, I can’t help but think it sways the game. Just my $.02.

I don’t watch international or pro softball really so I don’t know what it looks like. I just know that in my opinion there’s too many infield hits on balls that are played well by infielders, so I think 2 more steps to first would lessen that. Outfield wall seems fine as far as home run rate but it is pretty close as far as allowing extra base hits to the less fleet of foot.
International and pro are same distances, only main difference is they doesn’t require trailing toe to be kept down. It’s not the women’s version of baseball, that already exists. It’s a totally different game, much quicker, very different strategies, and much more difficult.

The athletes have progressed past the current configuration. They already had to move the rubber back as the pitching became overly dominant. 5-10 feet added to bases would help the game imo.
So, in your opinion, should international softball also change? As it is now, college pitching distance is the same as international.

This sport really needs to move the bases, mound, and fences back a few feet.
Then it would be called baseball. Why mess with a great game?

He should get on Nextdoor or the neighborhood Facebook page and put out a call for help. There’s probably a handy guy nearby that would be willing to take a look.He was able to borrow a space heater from a neighbor. The house is brand new, just moved in 2 weeks ago. So he has to have the vendor do the work or else the warranty is voided. Right now, they are not letting their repair guys out. Thanks!
