  1. I've watched the bloodbath clip a couple times and, like any Trump rhetoric, it's hard to know what he's trying to say. If you parse the words, though, he starts to say it'll be a bloodbath for the auto industry and then interjects that it'll be a bloodbath for the whole country. It's not as ominous as some as the headlines suggest but it's not unreasonable to take as a broader threat. And I think it's consistent with a lot of fears.

I was curious what the fuck he could be trying to say. I found a longer version of the quote in a Guardian article:

“You know what’s interesting? Joe Biden won against Barack Hussein Obama. Has anyone ever heard of him? Every swing state, Biden beat Obama but in every other state, he got killed,” https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/mar/17/trump-verbal-gaffes-ohio-rally-bloodbath

Seeing that context, I think he was saying that Biden outperformed Obama in every swing state but underperformed in others, suggesting voter fraud. No idea if that's true but appears to be what Trump intended.

The out-of-context clips is the manipulated reality we live in but it's also not necessarily new. Politics have always been about distorting people's statements to the max. It can just be done more powerfully and with more resonance with today's social media.

  3. Isn't that their whole approach? To take risks in order to gather real-world data that in the end leads to faster development than if they just kept refining on the ground. It's a move fast and break things sort of mentality and seems to be the reason for their vast lead over all other commercial space.  Look at how they  learned to land the Falcon 9 boosters. I don't think it's a "cavalier attitude," it's calculated risks and when people on board blowing things up is okay.

anyone fighting off 1980's thermonuclear war nightmares?  one of my reoccurring nightmares as a kid of the 80's was nuclear war and right as the missiles were to hit I'd wake up in a sweat.

I used to lie in bed thinking about a flash and then being eviscerated. That it could happen just like that. I'm having some of the same thoughts today. It's unlikely and the fear irrational, but it's more likely and more rational today than a week ago. Made sure to hug my kids.

Very hard to decipher what Putin’s logic is/was.  Worldwide sentiment is such that now there is no way he will be allowed to take the country or install a puppet regime.  He’s committed enough that the domestic consequences of retreating would be catastrophic to him.

Seriously odd.  And scary.  Illogical mf with nukes scare me.

I'm similarly scared. You have to wonder what safeguards they have between a Putin order to order to launch nukes and launching. Are there generals that could intervene? MAD still applies but if he becomes truly unhinged maybe he doesn't care. Probably more likely is tactical nukes in Ukraine but where does that lead?

  6. All y'all cooking on a WSM...have you ever tried finishing in the oven on higher heat (say 425) to crisp the skin? In the past I've followed Franklin's recipe with the butter bath and foil the last half to third. But skin winds up rubbery. Wondering what would happen if I skipped the foil and just put in the oven after basting with butter.

  7. I haven't been in Austin for a few years cause of life and the pandemic. Came out here for a wedding and stayed downtown. Went for a run around town lake and thought "holy shit, what the hell happened, why would anyone allow this." Then get breakfast with a friend and he gives the whole story about getting rid of the ordinance and everything that ensued. I had no idea and what a total mess. Get it together, Austin.

Saw that interview and he's right.  I've grown to like him over the past year.  He gets into the weeds on drugs sometimes and he was very pessimistic for a long time but he's also been right on almost everything.  He's been very optimistic lately and I like what he said about the guidance.  That's a really good clip, actually.

I think he was probably the only reasonable and competent member of the Trump administration. Glad he's still been vocal.

Rates spiking in Europe. They're behind on vaccination but I'm starting to think we're not going to avoid a variant wave. Texas and other states saying fuck it won't help.

  9. Has anyone proposed just a universal refinance of the loans rather than forgiveness? Or some forgiveness plus refinance of the balance? I have 6% interest on some of my loans which is crazy high given current rates. You can refinance through a bank but that's probably not an option if you're having trouble making payments. Eliminating the high interest would give a lot of people a break and avoid the moral hazard issues.

  10. I don't really understand this. It was more likely than not it was going to crash into the pad and FAA cleared it. Seems like it went exactly as planned, including the possibility of a crash. What's to investigate? Or are they just going to do this every time now? Did they after SN8?

I'd guess around 3pm judging by the way they've progressed on the checklist. That would give them around a 3 hour window.

Weird there haven't been any tweets from Space X or Elon. Planning to try to watch it with my son. We watched the last test together.

  12. Is SN9 launching today? Sae reports it was but haven't seen a time or anything from SpaceX. Really want to see it stick the landing.

Until his term ends or he's removed from office, he still holds the powers of the President of the United States of America, including those of Commander in Chief of the most powerful armed forces in the history of the world. The amount of damage he can do is beyond calculation.

A confrontation with Iran or another foreign power is certainly a possibility. Does he respond with nukes? Other disproportionate response? Just nuke them unprovoked cause Bibi asks. He is incredibly dangerous.

Let’s be very honest about what this is. Congress is under siege, held hostage by an angry mob. The military and national guard are not being deployed to defend Congress, held back by the administration.

This is 100% a coup attempt.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) just called it a coup on ABC. Don't know anything about him. Now they need to hold Trump accountable. Impeach and remove. End this shit.
