Tell that to someone who lived in 1816.

Same story with my cello; its design was obsolete in the 18th century, but was a new design compared to the viola da gamba of the 15th century or mid-16th century bass violins.

Believe it or not, "technology" doesn't have to require circuits. Any novel invention is tech. While people point to the savagery and mobility of the Huns, Genghis Khan's success was really due to his adaptation and advancement of technology. He would capture, learn how to use, and improve upon the weapons of places he conquered. The English longbow was critical for English successes in Europe. Sextants helped navigate the oceans. And so on.

But the key element here is, unlike Khan's siege engines, the Longbow, the laufmaschine and sextants, the key aspect of OP's question is do you still use it? And yeah, I still use my cello. I perform on it, record with it... And after I'm gone, someone else will, just as someone else played it before I was even born.

I'm a chapter in its story. Which is really fuckin' cool.

By that logic, anything man made is "tech". So a 5,000 year old wooden spoon is "tech".

We can all brag about still using our great-great-great-grandmas wooden spoon instead of the fancy new ones at Walmart.

It may be a lost art, but I'm not sure it's really a word. it's like "gifted" IMO. Why use focusness when one can use 'focus' or gifted when one can use the various forms of 'give'?

As in I gave, you gave, we have given....

We are descending into grammar chaos and it's so sad.

Not store bought but the best chips you can buy are at Fiesta (Tortillas) off Burleson Road.. It serves many of the restaurants in Austin and you won't find anything better or fresher. Originally from Del Rio and then to Austin, the Picos family does the chips right in the facility and they're brought out for resale at the front of the place.

That great smell hits you just as you turn right onto Promontory Point off of Burleson. We've been getting ours there for family gatherings, etc. for years.

They're right across the street from American Bolt, which is a great store for hard to find bolts/screws and usually half the price of Home Depot/Lowes.

Our HS made it easy with hour lunches and no restrictions on leaving campus. I lived .8 miles from school so it was like a dream my Junior and Senior year.

Late 80's in Dallas, no HS that I knew of allowed off-campus lunches unless you were in a work program.

My GF was busy as fuck with drill team and studying; if I didn't get her on the phone and arrange something, I wasn't getting any.

A girlfriend that you couldn't talk to on the phone because it was busy all the time? I would've loved that shit.

"Oh sorry I tried calling but it was busy. Anyway, your place or mine on lunch break?"

It's pretty hard to arrange to pick her up and go have sex if you can't get her on the phone.

But maybe you weren't into that, no judgements here.

I legit feel bad for teens these days.  Not that I don't love having a cell phone, but there's something special about having the meet up IRL.  And when you set a time and place to meet, you'd better be on time, or you were fucked...but not in the good way.

In Dallas, in the 80's, our "social media" was doing laps in our cars on Forest Lane between like Inwood and Marsh trying to pick up chicks.

I absolutely will never miss trying to call a girl and not being able to get through because her dumbshit fugly band nerd stepsister is on the phone for 6 hours talking band nerd shit with her fugly band nerd buddies. Stepfather thought call waiting was a luxury they didn't need.

Once we started dating, she told her mom that if her stepsister was gonna hog the phone all fucking day, she was just gonna spend all her free time with me.

They somehow found the money for a 2nd phone line after we had been dating for a few months....in exchange for her spending as little time with me as possible.

I don't understand why some Western Democracies and wealthy Arab states can't get together and purchase land in the empty area on the Mediterranean in the Sanai Peninsula, south of Rafah. Offer to keep Egypt healthy stocks of wheat and other food items, the Ukranian War has really caused some instability in their food supply.

Set up a port for humanitarian aid, free from Israeli controlled Gaza, and build a desalinization plant for drinking water and agricultural irrigation. If the British bought land for displaced Jews in 1948, surely it can be done again, if the pot is sweetened enough for Egypt.

The Arab states don't like Palestinians and don't want them in their backyard. They're just fine with Palestine being a perpetual irritant to Israel.

Because my friends from SWTSU told me stories and this tracks.

Oh, and I've watched Animal House.

My narrative may not be 100% true but I think it is at least one possible explanation.

Nothing I've read says it was a bunch of pledges. One of them that was interviewed was a junior. Juniors are rarely pledges.

Not a fraternity guy myself but had some friends that were KA's at Southwest Texas State University and I'm familiar with their experiences and practices.

It just occurred to me that some fraternity guys were sitting around on a couch watching all this stuff unfold and they came up with a grand idea:

"Let's make the pledges go fuck with the protesters."

After much planning, beer and bong interaction they came up with "pledges, assemble - you are to go defend the American flag in the middle of this protest at all costs.  If that flag comes down we're going to haze you fuckers until you die."

Then fraternity guys sat back on the couch and watched their glorious plan unfold.

These fraternity guys weren't defending the flag out of patriotism, they were doing it out of fear of hazing bullshit and retribution and, the only way they were letting go of that flag was if the Palestinians made life worse than the expected hazing.

This story is everything that is great about America.

    And you know this how?
