How many pounds do I need to get from my bank for a few days in London?  Or, is everything credit cards?

I was guessing I should get 200 to 300 for walking around cash, but that's why I'm here asking.

Last time, I never even touched the cash I converted, and then took a bath converting it back.  Just don't even bother.  You can tap everywhere.

I don't care.  just thought it was an odd comment coming from a swinger.  but maybe I confused you with someone else.

I'm glad you care so much.  Are you writing a book?  Updating your database?

Keep up the good work, Gladys...!

Now, leave me alone while the neighbor's wife is over here...

If you’re looking for a drink after Fearing’s Bowen House is always worth a stop.

Excellent thinking!  I was just thinking the same thing.  Although, there is a bottle of Willam Larue Weller that requires my attention at The Rattlesnake Bar.  Haven't killed it yet.  It's an ongoing project.

  4. Doing some anniversararying this weekend.  Gonna wander over the Ritz for dinner at Fearing's (love that guy!).  Not gonna bother walking home.  Get in some pool time on Saturday, do a wine tasting with Paul Botamer (love that guy, too!), and then...random shenanigans, I guess.  Not planning on staggering back home until Sunday, and then we're gonna repack and I will join my girl on the road for a short work-trip just because I can.

It just occurred to me that I did not plan Saturday dinner.  Shit.

It is that time again.  OK, actually tomorrow since 2 of my helpers will be here.  The plan is to fill every jar with pickles, japs, or okra and give 'em to the kids or friends.  With all the jars gone, that will be one less thing next year to deal with.

  6. Grew up on Corpus Christi Bay, so Gulf Oysters were/are a staple.  Most of the Texas Coast gets farm-raised Oysters anyway now, so I feel less hinky about eating them in the warmer seasons.

Fave place in NOLA is Royal House Oyster Bar.  Mandatory stop.  Usually hit up Felix at some point as well.

A trip to Monterey, CA last August had us sitting on the back patio of Osteria Al Mare with a bottle of something white, chilled, and exquisite and a constant supply of Oysters.  That was a good day.

    That's all I got.

  7. Was replying to Buzzrock on a different thread and thought I would come here.

After year+ of living in the heart of downtown, I'll throw out a (maybe or maybe not) controversial pick for the best Filet in town.  It's at The Woolworth.

Not a steakhouse, per se, but...for $54...they deliver time and again.  The rest of their menu is consistently executed flawlessly.  Never had an even remotely mediocre experience.

We usually sit at the bar and have a blast with the staff.  Patio is always nice for a fair-weather day, too.  At the bar:  Noel is a lovely fellow who knows his brown liquor.  Yoanna is the queen of the cocktail and subversive conversation.  Sarah (also of City Tavern) and Kayla aren't neophytes, either.

    Just my $0.02.

It does thanks. I like The Woolworth. The pig face at CBD Provisions is a show stopper too.

Then I definitely need to go there.  Walk by it all the time on the way to, either, The Mitchell or The Scarlet Pumpernickel (or both!), depending on the mood.

    Thanks for the rec!

Is Wicked Butcher any good? I’m in that area frequently.

It is a nice place to go dine, and they cover all the bases with some nice dining flourishes thrown in.  Obviously, the dining room is fancier, the bar/patio is more casual.

However, it seems like we hang on the patio or in the bar for random cocktails and apps more than we eat in the restaurant.  Wine list, cocktails, brown liquor are all fantastic.  For example, last night was a bottle of Ghost Block Cab with their (insanely good) Hummus and a Charcuterie plate, along with their complementary Popovers.  It was all we needed before the show.

The best Filet in town, however, after exhaustive research...The Woolworth.  Repeatedly.  And their service and bar ain't no slouch either.

    If that helps...

  10. Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Bobby Rush at The Majestic in Dallas tonight (I live next door to it).

Headed to terrorize the Wicked Butcher patio shortly.  Come yell out "Mule Dick" and say hello.

After that, I'll be the dude in the front row in one of my B.B. King tour shirts (always difficult to find one in my sea of Metal tour shirts).

Bourbon and Blues on a Friday, yall!  Cheers!

I just spent all of my 20s in the SA dating/nightlife scene.

And yet...you know absolutely nothing about the town.  Fascinating...

Btw.  My comment about nightlife is probably pretty off because I'm 54. My 34 yr old date last night told me about 300 bars I've never heard of so maybe its bettter than I said.

And for the single dudes.  Despite the fact that there are a TON of tortas there is still plenty of hot ass to be found

You should give that list to Helobious.  Sounds like he could use the help.

Ended up at Bohanan’s for our 10 year anniversary to “blow it out”, as someone suggested up thread. What an incredible meal, from setting to service to food, just an all around great experience. We both have a bit of “vacation stomach” right now so we didn’t even do a bottle of wine but even still that was an impressive price tag… worth it, but dayum!

You're welcome...ha!  Seriously, glad it worked out for your big 10!  Hope the rest of your trip was equally awesome.  Cheers to ya!

My (teacher) wife may get a huge bonus, and it may put us over the Roth cap. A nice problem to have, I guess. But still annoying. For now we are ramping up 403b/457 savings to adjust MAGI lower. Next year we may just skip Roth IRAs altogether and stuff the 457 Roth option, but I hate it's not in Vanguard. I dislike Empower (employers vendor) a great deal. Normally at our income pre-tax savings is the way to go, but we will have pensions so there might not be a super low post retirement income. We hope we can never touch our Roth savings, and thay would be what we plan to pass down or help kods out of.

Does your wife not Backdoor, bro?

    How is Mississippi BBQ? https://www.taysbbq.com/moss-point-menu

Drove from UT to Fort Walton Beach in college.  Also from UT to Central FL to see spring baseball.   All I remember was that it was a dreadfully boring drive and you couldn't see squat from the highway.  Makes me long for a drive to NM, LOL.

I don't know about the quality of the BBQ, but, hell...I'd try it!  I kinda want some smoked wings now, dammit!

  16. When we moved from Corpus Christi to Fort Myers (and then later back to Lufkin), we stopped at Moss Point, MS both trips.  Intersection of IH-10 & Highway 63.

Wasn't fancy, but there's a few hotel options and a few food options.  Easy intersection with convenience stores for gas, coffee, and road snacks the next morning.  It just worked.

Surprisingly good enchiladas and margs at Hacienda San Miguel, by the way.

I was in SF for climate week.  Attended and hosted quite a few events.  Most were great none were horrible.  The usual plan is to sign up for a bunch of events and then once accepted, decide which one to go to.  The challenge is you have no idea how big the crowd will be.

One of them was a dud.  8 people showed up including a couple who was clearly friends of the host.  Found out they lived in Austin but were from SA, went to utsa.  Group did an intro and the young guy said “moved out here for work” while the wife is “I’m a hippie, part time volunteer, etc “ sounds great though I’m curious how they’re surviving on one salary in SF.  Chatted the guy up and thought he may have been an engineer. Nope.  He let it slip that he worked for a conservative church. 20 minutes later, the lady says to me and my colleague, who is indeed conservative himself “glad you’re here.  The hippie story is a cover up.  I’m a pro life activist “

be comfortable in your own skin people.  No need to lie

    How was the weather?
