  1. You have to give Coach Sark at least 3 years to implement his schemes. The offense he runs is the one that USC ran against us in the Rose Bowl. It's not a simple offense to implement right off the bat. Need to give him some time.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that Coach Sark has some MNC rings as well as an offensive assistant at USC in both 2003 and 2004.

  2. DKR once said "Trends are bunk, only angry people win football games"   IMHO, Texas football needs to go back to the gospel of DKR. Not necessarily run the same offense or defense but to play for UT with pride and a chip on your shoulder.

I knew we were in trouble when Sark made his comment about Arky being just another faceless opponent.  No comprehension of what they were going to be walking into.

Contrast that to what Coach Akers said during Arkansas week in 1984(I was staff assistant at the time) He told the team "Guys, you just have to go out there and knock their dicks in the dirt. Deep down they want to be Texas but down inside they know they're not. Please do not ask me how I know this"(with a big grinning smile)

1981.    Texas 9 SMU 7 at the old Texas stadium.   Viscous defense and a pretty good kicker.   Texas offense was beyond anemic - but they won.  Freaking Akers.

That was my second game. Our offense was bad because the UT QB at the time really was not capable of running it.  It was glorious shutting down Dickerson and James though.

My first game was the 1979 game vs SMU at Texas Stadium. UT won 30-6.  The '79 Texas defense is one of the best in school history. Watching them in person was a sight to behold. I felt sorry for that SMU OG who had to at first block Steve McMichael and then his backup Kenneth Sims.

He was well over the hill and a total drunk by the time he ended up at OU.  Of course Texas loved his over the hill ass.  And OU won the championship in 1985.  I can laugh all day about that.  Those Miami teams were lethal.  I have zero trouble admitting it and I’m glad Switzer wasn’t too big a pussy to schedule them.

Do you really think OU scheduled Miami back in the 1980s because they were going to be tough competition? No, Switzer thought it was going to be a couple of easy victories as well as a very good recruiting trip into Florida. When asked about scheduling tough non-conference foes, Barry Switzer once said "Texas is enough for me". Yes, OU won it in 1985 and they were lucky in that regard because Miami lost their bowl game.  Remember that OU's "Outlaw Underdog" image allows to win or play for championships even though they have double digit losses. As far as Schnellenberger being an over the hill coach, he did develop the football program at Florida Atlantic. His problem at OU stemmed from the fact that he tried to 'redevelop' the tradition at OU(just like Mackovic was trying to do here at the time). BTW, Okie double talk doesn't  work on me just ask an old HS classmate of mine, Brian Bosworth.

  5. Miami FL was about to do away with their football program before Schnellenberger came along. So was Louisville.  OU fans make me chuckle when they say he wasn't a good coach. Then again, he did sucker Barry Switzer into scheduling Miami for both 1985 and 1986. We all know how that turned out. :)

  6. I's somewhat stunned that Herman got fired considering what 2020 has been like. Then again, you cannot allow politics to enter a locker room and maintain support of the entire team. Don't know about Sarkisian.  I hope I'm wrong but this hire has John Mackovic written all over it.

  7. RIP Coach :(  Like many Longhorn fans, I was not a fan of Eddie Sutton. I did mellow on him quite a lot when he came out for the 1997 UT- OSU game when he gave the UT crowd the Hook 'Em Horns, Eddie Sutton always defended former UT coach Abe Lemons even though they did have some issues with each other. Below is a link to one of their many battles against each other/

  8. Being a UT fan for over 50 years,  I will say that Mack did some really positive things here despite the fact he overstayed his welcome/

    1) He totally flipped the recruiting on aggy eventually getting RC Slocum fired and getting Texas back to its rightful spot as the prominent program in the State. I remember in the mid 1980, a prominent sportswriter for the DMN(later at the FWST) wrote that aggyy will forever be the prominent program in Texas at that point and it's just wishful thinking for UT fans to ever think we ever get it back/ Mack turned that little prophecy wrong and that same sportswriter started calling him "Macky Mack" as a result.

2)He proved that Texas can be a constant 10 game winning a year program again. That all our wins and championships were not just a result of   carpet bombing on recruiting. UT was accused of recruiting players just to keep them from playing against us. BTW, it's not true at all. The common thought among  sportswriters was that scholarship limits had exposed our football program as being a fraud on the national scene  Mack proved that theory totally wrong.

    3) He totally embraced and respected the UT tradition unlike the previous coach before him. He wasn't aiming to just  be good once out every five years like Mackovic was. Mack wanted to put the program in a place where it was nationally relevant every year.

True,. he eventually got lazy, did not make the necessary changes on the offensive side of the ball  but he did do some good things while here. This UT fan is appreciative of it.

  9. Sorry about the mistake on LSU's record that year, I knew they went into the 1971 Orange Bowl with 2 losses(one of them being a loss to a 2 win aggy team). All I can say  is that the Coaches Poll(the ones who actually know the game of football)  gave us the MNC in 1970 while the jock sniffing AP Poll gave it to Nebraska.

I’d say there is strong evidence that if 1970 Texas and Nebraska played 10 times, Texas would win 9.

The 1970 Texas team would have beaten 1970 Nebraska by at least 2 TDs. People forget that Nebraska struggled mightily with a 7-2-1 LSU team in the 1971 Orange Bowl.

Whom do you think you’re addressing? Empty set is empty. Chad, Brad, whoever— is that you?

Not addressing anyone in particular though I do sometimes get the vibe that some UT people wanted Mack to continue until he decided to retire.

  12. It appears that after USF got whacked yesterday  that Charlie really isn't a good HC after all and UT made the right decision to let him go. I do wish him well though..For all his faults, Charlie Strong never told fans to just live with it(unlike some former UT Coach did on Sept 12,1997). For those who wanted Mack to continue after the 2013 Season, I really don't know what to say to you.  His program imploded on the night of January 8,2010 and he refused to recognize it.  It was time for him to go.
