  1. I could understand digging in and speaking up about the commitment they make to a high school kid who they sign and how that is different than any other school because they don't go to the Portal.  But to go folksy the high school kids are transfers also is so Mack Brown it's funny.  All I needed him to say is that even though they didn't sign anyone from the portal they are killing themselves in the portal.

I just read this whole thread, so I wanted to jump in here.

First of all, I appreciate everyone's opinion. And more specifically I agree with some folks here about certain issues.

I want everyone to know that we don't think or expect the OTF message board to be for everyone. In fact, we know it won't be. It's simply not what we're attempting to do.

There are already places where people are comfortable and where they enjoy being.

SurlyHorns is a perfect example of this. Folks enjoy this place. Clearly. Hell, I enjoy it when I come over here, that's one of the reasons I first reached out to Rick, so I totally get it.

The second part is really important to me and why we manage the OTF message board the way we do in comparison to other "premium" sites...

When I say dozens of recruits, parents of recruits, and parents of existing players on the team watch or listen to OTF daily, it is a very real thing.

I think every single recruit who committed to Texas last year - all of them - knows and has watched OTF. I'm not saying that to brag, I'm saying it because that specific viewership brings a certain level of responsibility to OTF as it relates to the university on the whole.

In my opinion, it's important to have a place like the OTF message boards and a site like OTF to be relatively clean. Not without opinion mind you, but certainly one that would not shock the system of newcomers either.

I feel like OTF does a really good job of holding up that end of the bargain, and we will continue to do so.

    The third thing is this:

While Surly is primarily a message board/community. OTF is primarily a news service with a community attached.

OTF is much more like Orangebloods, Inside Texas or Horns247.

Each of those sites, I have found through the years, gets extremely provincial. They don't like it when another site is referenced or they get petty about their own reporting, etc.

I've been doing this stuff for 30 years and I'm just done with that.

I also know that some parents of recruits sometimes subscribe to those sites, visit the message boards, and they see a bunch of in-fighting, followed by nudie pics, name calling, or cliques that live to make fun of others, and the parents immediately think to themselves, what the hell is going on at Texas?

Is that's what's best for Texas?

So for me, this is NOT about OTF vs OB. Or OTF vs IT.

This is really about Texas vs the rest of college football/college sports. And that's what I want the focus of OTF to be about.

We appreciate everyone who has joined OTF. We're doing our best to bring you news whether it's via video/podcast or the website and I think we're doing it in a way that is best for all involved. It won't be for everyone and we get that.

I just appreciate the folks who have given us a chance and who continue to support what we're trying to do.

    Thanks, Bobby

Thank you for all you do.   You are a good dude who cares about the University unlike some of your competitors.  I appreciate your insight in this thread and it will definitely make me visit the site and your coverage more knowing this is your perspective. So I guess I just want to say that the time you took to put that perspective together for us will hopefully result in more of us engaging over there.  It will for me. Best of luck moving forward.

  3. I folded.

Results.  Guy who went 700 all in had straight.  First guy who called 700 had kk for set on board with straights.  Complete moron call by him.  Person to my right had QJ also as part of wrap draw with nut flush draw as well.

I obviously folded and KK gets half the pot with a pair of kings on my 335 board.  The two straights quarter the other half.

Debated whether I should have considered potting on turn as well, but since I had nothing on other board felt that calling was right move.

Thought for sure someone had 55 and maybe 77 and obviously results got me in my feels eeve though I felt confident at time in decision.

  4. Need to bounce this hand off someone else and this is as good a place as any.  Double Board Bomb Pot $5 in a deep stacked $1-$1 game.  I have something like $1200 in front of me.

    My hand - 3-5-6-j garbage

    Board 1 - A-10-7 (heart flush draw)

    Board 2 - 3-3-5 (rainbow)

First player to act who has legitimately played five hands in three hours pots it ($40 I believe).  I call.  Then we only get 4 other callers.   I believe pot was $280.

Board 1- A-10-7-K (heart and diamond flush draw)

    Board 2 - 3-3-5-7

First player to act pots it at $280 again.  I think a bit and call.  Then three other players call.

    River

Board 1 - A-10-7-K-4 (no flushes get there)

    Board 2 - 3-3-5-7-9

First player to act checks.  I check.  Guy to my immediate left who is a somewhat tight goes all in for about $700.  Guy to his left calls (has another $1500 or so behind - the deepest stack).  Next guy folds.  Guy who was first to act and potted it on flop and turn calls $700 and has $300 or so behind.

What do you do?  Do you call $700 of your roughly $900 remaining here?

I've been very wary of Houston poker for a while. Many of the rooms rake, much of the management have questionable histories, and security and clientele are a problem at many of the clubs. I fear these clubs will ruin it for everyone. We're lucky in Austin relative to them.

You are not wrong IMHO.  About 2/3 of the rooms in town seem to rake nowadays.  As a result, I only play in rooms that do not rake (TCH - Spring and Spades - Webster primarily)  I think they all feel its ok following the Post Oak/Prime debacle of a raid by the DA's office, but I think that is dumb as fuck as a lawyer.  And I say that as someone more nitty who likely benefits from a rake format as opposed to an hourly fee.

I did when they opened.  I clocked quite a few hours with some of their early promotions, but then I noticed a stink.   First, the owner of the place left California for a myriad of reasons including losing his gaming license.  Not a great start.  Then, when you play there it seemed pretty obvious there were multiple house players.  Several instances of what appeared to be pretty soft play with people they all seemed to know. They also repeatedly let tables get short so that they can have Poker Atlas show a large number of tables.  In other words, keep six tables of six players instead of breaking one or two of those tables.  Finally, the location is quite possibly one of the worst amongst Houston poker rooms from a security stand point and that was before the armed robbery attempts there.

So yeah, decided after my hours ran that I was never going back and haven't regretted it since.

Also, if you have a dealer like that in your game, he's throwing the good cards to a particular player so it should be easy to figure out who he is rigging the deck to benefit.  No follow up with the player and the house's prior issues makes me think it's a house player.

  7. He entered the portal without us being in the loop.  It's pretty clear it's been OU this entire time.  If he wanted Texas, he could have reached out to our staff knowing who we had graduating and going into the draft.  So yeah I think this one is known, but I hold out hope that the two poor schools can't deliver on their promises.

there was one really consistent piece of feedback I got yesterday. A LOT of people like OTF because it's SUPER inclusive and there is no sidebar bullshit or drama between the posters. They are there to be fans and get info and interact with the OTF team, not to talk shit or disagree with each other on hot takes. I think by and large they represent the majority of the fanbase, want to stay current, love the horns, but don't necessarily have many of their own opinions - reflects the gen pop well.

    I guess that's why I post here.

If I read that right, his dad is a cop. Can anyone prove he was driving his vehicle? That was how a buddy in hs got out of essentially the same deal. Rolled his truck while drunk. Fled the scene. They found his truck and he plead ignorance. Nothing came of it.

It was his dad's vehicle who called in after accident to report that it was involved.  I suspect cop dad is smart enough not to admit who was driving.

Police Report also has several people whose names are redacted in car with Sweat all college aged so there might be some more fallout from this if those are current players (though getting in a car with Sweat or Burrell is really stupid, but they weren't driving).  Now that people know details and they are more reported, I suspect Burrell will be charged shortly.
