Now that sounds interesting and entry worthy.  I have never heard of pickled gizzards before.

Seconded.  I bet they look like little forensically preserved brains on toast.  Can't wait.

My wife still doesn't understand how a thermostat works. We are damn near 50 years old. She is a smart enough person to grasp the concept. She has a Masters degree. What kills me is that she just doesn't want to. If i try to connect the dots I'm mansplaining.

It's not just wives.  My husband is a smart man.  He refuses to act like an adult around a thermostat.

  3. What gets lost among all the right wing crying over student loan forgiveness is that, at least in previous rounds (not sure on this one), these were loans that SHOULD HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN ALREADY. By the terms of the loans when they originated.  The government just wasn’t following through on those terms. Biden made it happen. That’s why conservatives can't stop him.

Also, the fact that people don’t see why this is a good thing overall is stunning. Well not that stunning. But it’s sad. People against this are just petty.

    I got caught in this.

I refinanced my loan when I was advised that forgiveness would “never happen.” I was paying over 6% for a grad school loan for a public health degree. Refinanced to 4%. I still owe. I still work in public health and have for over 20 years. I more than qualify but cannot move my loan back.

Mrs GOTJ continues to make steady progress. Lately she's been big on a high fiber diet which is supposed to help mitigate several of the changes. Of course she's now spending plenty of time in the restroom dealing with the side effects of eating a bowl of Colon Blow cereal each morning. One of the biggest challenges is her getting her progesterone filled since it's stocked out of pretty much every pharmacy in the area.

That's one of the reasons I went online and I've had a great experience thus far.  If you have a local compounding pharmacy, consider switching and asking for a cream if you'd rather keep it local.  Also, the progesterone is filled with peanut oil so beware for those with allergies.

Damnit.  I told my husband about this and now he calls my guitar a Martinez.

I'll cut anyone in a town of sub 1800 people a huge amount of slack. It's hard to make it there

Two days a week in a town of 15k people is dumb. That's without considering the hours of the other bbq spots there: Black's is open 7 days a week 10-8. Terry Black's is basically the same. Same for Kreutz but they close at 6p one night. Smittys is 7-6 6 days a week and 9-6 on Sunday.

...Unless someone is willing to let Barbs run at a huge loss long term there is no way they are open 2 days a week when the next Top 50 drops.

And they probably will have better hours once they feel like they can.  They have said they were open to it from the beginning.

Folks that expand too quickly get so much shit on this site.  Here we have an operation taking its time and while dealing with insane expectations (NY Times), yet they're getting more shit.  Why?  The Q is excellent.  The owners seem young, but I think they've played this very well.  Doesn't look like they're hurting.

There’s a woman at work who uses all these natural remedies.  She smells “different“.

I'll confess to ordering Lume.  My sister gave me all kinds of shit about it because the women at her gym have all switched and it smells like ass.

I like the shower gel, but good 'ole aluminum Old Spice FTW.

I bet if you picked it up and played it, you might feel differently.  I wasn't shopping for a Martin at all.  Just a good guitar to continue taking lessons on to get me to the next step.  This just happened to be the one and I think it stands up to the name with all the caveats.

New Guitar!  Martin 000-X2E.  I love this thing.  It's my first brand new guitar and I couldn't be happier with how it plays.  It's MIM and there are some rough edges, but the sound is incredible.  The top is spruce and the back and sides are some manufactured material making it very durable.  For the price, I don't think you can beat it.  I wanted a G-45, but Strait had just sold it as I was walking in.  Saved me a few hundred bucks.

  10. Headed to NOLA tomorrow for a long weekend.  Staying in the Garden District and will be avoiding the Quarter except for Easter Brunch at Arnaud's.  Looking for causal places to sit down, chill, and listen to live music.  Any recommendations for places off of St. Charles, Magazine, or other places?

    Frenchman St?

  11. Since we appear to be veering into Blame the Musician territory for the instrument being annoying, I nominate Acoustic Guitar with flat B string flailed on by Hippy Who Came to Party Alone as he eyes the crowd and sings "Love the one you're with."

    Second the nom.

  12. Is there something about not having a dick, that makes them think it's a Good Idea to put trash in the kitchen sink instead of taking three steps and tossing it in the trash bin? I mean, we're talking plastic bags, tin can lids, wadded up  aluminum foil, plastic bottle tops... why?

    That is truly odd.

  13. Last night, Mrs. K once again demonstrated her lack understanding of how a thermostat works:
She: It's going to be in the 20's tonight.  I'm going to turn up the thermostat
Me:  It's not going to get any colder in the house than any other night because we always have it set at 63
She:  But it's going to be in the 20's tonight.  I don't want the house to get cold.

    Gotta pick your battles, boys.

How did you agree on 63? My husband likes to change the thermostat in our house like he does in his truck. Drives me nuts.

There should be one setting for winter and one for summer. That’s it. I’d even go for one setting all year, but that’s a pipe dream.

Anyone making an argument that times are tougher now than they have ever been is a legitimate LUNATIC. Prior generations had WW2 and Vietnam to deal with. I grew up with double digit unemployment, the constant and very real threat of nuclear armageddon, 20% mortgages 15% inflation. Cities were wastelands, oil was embargoed, NYC was the murder capital of America. People were still watching black and white TVs, pop music meant Debbie Gibson, and I remember when my school got its first computer. Cable TV, microwaves, and VCR's were brand new and costed more then than they do now.

We live in an age of massive and shared prosperity. People are obese, not starving. The existential angst has very little to do with economic privation. As a factual matter the argument is makes no sense.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/04/29/coronavirus-vietnam-deaths/

"The main problem with the comparison between the coronavirus death toll and various armed conflicts is that those conflicts were, depending upon your perspective, elective events. The Vietnam War, in particular, came to be widely regarded as a blunder, and U.S. leaders were accused of remaining in the war far too long.

Graphic: Tracking coronavirus deaths in the United States

The coronavirus, by contrast, was something that was very likely coming to American shores no matter how aggressive the early response. It was a situation that was thrust upon us, in many ways, because of how interconnected our planet is. Around 180 countries have seen the virus come within their borders; for each of them, it was then a matter of minimizing its impact."

I made way too much rice for gumbo on Sunday, so decided I was gonna need to make some fried rice to get rid of it. The only thing I didn’t already have in my pantry or freezer was the HEB diced thighs for lettuce wraps, which were perfect for this.

Holy shit!  Thanks for the tip!  These seem really useful.
