  1. Every now and then, the ICS Chili championship is in Reno. ICS was Carrol Shelby’s splitting off from Tolbert and CASI.

Had no idea why I mentioned chili and Reno.

Had to fly into there to get to Heavenly.

  2. Sugar Bowl was nice, when you hit the topmost lift, you can see down into Donner Pass near Truckee. The day we were there was after an epic blow. 2-3 feet of snow.
Just couldn’t imagine those poor folks stuck in those conditions. It was cold as fuck but I had state of the art fabrics.
    They had corpsicles.
Was interesting that Sugar Bowl was a Disney resort.

  3. Where is snow dog with his contibution or is there another thread?

Tolbert Men’s State in Maxdale coming up, followed by Tolbert State in Lockhart.
There’s only been 2 back to back Tolbert champs in like, 45 years.
    Ahem...

  4. Not sure how Snow Dog got roped in this, sorry SD.

No worries, my prefs are sent to blast me alerts when there are chili threads. It’s part of my Sh•••yVIP membership.

Tolbert Men’s State coming up, Maxdale, TX

Maxdale Chili Park is awesome, it’s run by old Army Master sergeants. There’s a nice fireplace in the hall. Best I’ve done there was 8th place.

I’m a Navy Brat, so I must behave when I’m there.

Lots of cool memorabilia in the house, those

    Dudes like chili.

  5. There’s an excellent tournament at Swordstone in February out near Briarcliff, just do the Googles. It’s a great course, but mostly private. It’s Circle C on steroids.
    It’s called the Swordstone Shiver.
There’s a fire pit and beer.

  6. Since were doing multiple threads for the same topics did you ever compete at terlibgua when shelby was there?

I’m not that old, bro. Attended my first Terlingua in the 90’s as a spectator. Walked into Texas Chili Parlor on my birthday and bought myself a bowl of XXX. Saw the proclamation at the door that Terlingua was always the first weekend of November.

Got a kitchen pass next year and had a blast.

Got to see Hallie Stillwell as the honorary Emmce, so that was awesome. There were still bewbs and a horrendous trench shitter, which thankfully has been closed.

    Now there’s portapotties and drones.

Carroll started the International Chili Society and went West, their championships are usually in Reno or Las Vegas.

And there’s a gumbo/ green chili category these days, just to be on topic

  7. Anyone else ever play Northtown in north east Austin? We play there all the time. Much more challenging and fun than Wells.

It’s a badass course. The waterholes and OB are brutal. I live in Hays County. Whenever I get north of the Mighty Colorado, I get jumpy. Cat Hollow was fun.

  8. Got a hole in one at Wells the other nights playing with light up disc. It’s Wells so not the biggest achievement ever but cool still.

     Ace is an ace, bro.

Tonight was gorgeous at Mary Moore. More peeps coming out, it’s been dry, and not Muddy Moore. Rain coming tho. Bust that damn cedar pollen. 15135a078b261b1178c2228da67a57fd.jpg

  9. Well your recipe from page 1 is fantastic.  Wife wanted some chile for NYE so I poked around and took the plunge.  Followed directions very closely with only minor modifications.  And I could not find any "$#@&in", but it turned out great anyway.

3 adults and 2 kids polished this off in 30 minutes.  A request was made for Batch #2 which was summarily rejected as I was having too much fun being the food hero, getting drunk and watching the Longhorns kick the shit out of Utah.  Nice way to end the year, thanks for that.
