if Nebraska was surrounded by evil enemies, Oklahoma and Iowa, yes the Huskers need nukes.   Nukes do keep the peace, as inconvenient & ugly a truth as that.

Then it follows more nukes equals more peace, kinda like more guns equals less gun violence. Green light for NK and Iran, right?  Just asking the question.

when, not if, Ukraine prevails - will NATO help them become a nuclear power?  Do the silo locations still exist? The equipment stored in warehouses?

I say let Ukraine re-nuke. Let Russia try something then.

Are you assuming that the lead up to resolution doesnt involve the use of nukes?  If it does, do we abide by the 1994 Budapest Memorandum?

  3. I have seen several assessments that indicate that Putin has no political off ramps at this point. If that is true, the question is longer if but when we will take military action.  Talks of chemical weapons is driving more ambiguity in US responses.  And new airstrikes into western Ukraine is upping the ante. Shouldn’t we be mobilizing a credible response on the Poland border in the event entry into Ukraine is warranted or at least as a credible counterattack deterrent to Putin?

Btw, anyone remember the time, the US undertook a military operation that entered the airspace of another nuclear power?

Ecuador? No. Honduras? Pretty close to it. Whether your family lives under the constant specter of falling artillery or out of control criminal violence doesn’t make much difference - broken dead bodies is broken dead bodies. You should have a similar amount of fear for your family’s safety in Honduras as you would in Ukraine. Neither of which are your fault, and in both cases, you just want to get them someplace safe.
That kid isn’t fleeing Honduras because his family is greedy. He’s fleeing because they want him to live.

Yeah but the gangster in Russia also has nukes. Not saying it excuses the distinction, but it's the reality.  Ukraine is also better at marketing.

Every map I have seen shows Moldova (also the birth place of Bianna Golodryga), as a non nato country and yet no one seems to talk about it.

I finally saw a story regarding Moldova (not Mulva), apparently it was on a map pictured with Belarusian President.

It's amazing how Biden can be blamed for Putin ordering the invasion of Ukraine, but dont be surprised if Ukraine prevails, they will say it's because of Trump.

  8. Just the tip of the spear.  America's version of the Taliban is firmly in control in Texas, subverting the fundamental elements of our democracy, coupled with an uncaring populace happily accepting its demise.  With national out of touch progressives trumpeting socialist agenda, centrist democrats hand wringing and scared to use the marginal power they have, gotta give Texas republicans credit; they aren't scared to use power.  In this day and age, hyperbole may only be the language of the the day, but what happens when hyperbole ceases to be hyperbole and becomes reality.  At present course, we need only to look to Afghanistan to see our future. Brisket is right.

    Hedging strategies= increasing house percentage

Sorry.  That's just how it is.

That being said, I play a 'grinder's grind 'version of craps, with one don't pass bet and variance in my odds.  I enjoy the simplicity, whereas most people love to see bets all over the table. Some people might even call it boring, but they won't have better math than I do in the long run at the craps table.  Only the house has that, but not after the point is established.

I agree.  Hedges come at a cost, and that adds to house edge.  I concede on the math of the game, otherwise casinos would not offer it. Long term, the house is playing the grinder strategy, so betting with them makes sense, in the long run.  But, I also think there's a lot of information beyond the math that can influence decisions at the table in a single session.

Pulling down a don't pass bet after the point is one of the dumbest moves a craps player can make.  Your bet is anywhere from a 16.6 to a 33% favorite.

Hint: that's why the casino allows it.  Hell, you already made it past the hard part...

I agree with the stats and assessment of getting past the hard part mathematically, however, whether it is dumb or wise may depend on factors beyond the math, such as an assessment of the shooter, if you give any credence to shooter patterns or dice control.  I know there are exclusive dark and light siders. I have seen light siders go after dark siders at a table.  That said, most dark siders know the strategies to hedge dont pass bets against come out rolls (hop 7's 6-1, 4-3, 5-2, big red / any 7, whirl/world bet (big red and horn bet combined) , yo bet, laying a number, playing pass-line also).

I actually do give some credence to dice setting/and dice control or at least shooting patterns.  I typically use a hard way set with 4's on top and aces facing back and 5's and 2 on the sides. My seven outs on a 5-2 is at most 20%, and 6-1 up to 50%.  This makes sense to me because both dice have to go off axis to get a 5-2. For me to seven out on 6-1 or 4-3, one of the dice has to double pitch (show the opposite face from starting position) relative to the other die.  As a corollary, I also rarely throw hard 4's or hard 10's from this set.

More on the elimination of traditional (manned) table games:

And the advent of this which I'm sure some of you have seen.   I'm there next week.

I apologize if this was said, but they have had this at Winstar for a while (2 in fact).  It has its pros and cons. Rolling on the hard plastic top may seem a bit bouncy for the dice controller enthusiasts, but if you are on one of the middle slots its a really short throw.  There are some weird things on bets, like you cant pull down a dont pass bet after point is made. So if you like playing 6 or 8 from the dont you're stuck.  But you can do a lot more betting strategies without getting a dirty look from the dealer.  For example,I like laying all the numbers on the come out roll. I like it because if a seven hits you get paid lay odds on your bets (ie 1 to 2 on 4/10, 2/3 of 5 and 9 and 5/6 on 6 and 8.  If a point hits, you only lose whatever you put on the point, 2,3,11,12 nothing happens. I am hesitant to ask this of a dealer on a live table, though the first time I saw this bet was on a live table.  On this machine, the vig is calculated in cents at a true 5% and taken out of the win as opposed to upfront, both of which can help or hurt in certain cases.  But since the vig is typically rounded to a minimum of $1, that is that is another reason I wouldnt do it on a live table.

Also, Winstar live tables dont have hop bets save the basic horns bets.  The ante is only $.50 cents a come out roll, as opposed to $1, though it wouldnt shock me if they raise it, if or when they can. Someone buying in, in the middle of a roll is not as disruptive to the game (trying to put it nicely but I hate that on a live table).  You can play the don'ts more discreetly as people rarely look at the best on the table screen (at least i dont).

From a social perspective it doesn't compare to a live table as its hard to get as excited on a hot shooter when everyone but the shooter is usually sitting.  And since it is a computer it is susceptible to crashing and or operator error which can really slow down the game. One of winstar's table was down recently for a couple days.   Also recently, I was playing when the stick person entered 7 out when a 6 was rolled. Let's just say, it took awhile to get everything sorted.

It’s obviously totally random, or the casinos would make changes to ensure it is.

That said, I find it more enjoyable to suspend disbelief and have a routine myself. I like to have both showing the same number topside and take care to never show 7 while setting them up.

    But, yeah, it’s completely irrelevant.

I have seen some folks that have a really soft toss and tight grouping on their dice throws, typically shoot stick 1 or 2.  I dont quite understand throwing the dice backwards against the closest wall before making a throw.

  13. Anyone have thoughts on dice setting and/or dice control?  I was browsing youtube and came across the breaking vegas episode about the "dominator".  I understand hitting the back wall of the alligator skins should randomize the results.

Generally, yes. Vs most 1/2 players were just calling their open raise with 76s when they also tend to limp a lot, as their raise tells us it’s likely a fairly strong hand. We’re only 3betting AA,KK and something like A5s to balance if you think that’s important.

If, however, this player almost never limps and is also playing a fair number of hands, then we could start 3betting a few more hands, including JJ+ QJs+ and AKo.

76s I’d only 3bet vs a super loose and aggro player

as I said the table was only open for about an hr, everyone pretty much was within +/-25 of their original stacks($200), with the shortest being $150ish.  Not a lot of 3 betting, so for the most part pretty soft. I thought about 3 betting to get heads up and have position but I ended up just calling.    Button and SB(shortest stack) called behind me.  flop was 6,7,3 rainbow no club. SB checked, UGT+2 original raiser leads $40.  I raised to $100, Button folds, SB Jams $140.  UTG+2 folds. Know I am behind but cant fold for $40.  board runs out and i dont fill. SB 4,5o.  Had several run ins with SB during the session.  He was the loosest player on the table and saw him do at least 4 rebuys during the session.

This whole debate of wind/solar/gas/coal is kabuki theater designed to distract attention from the proximate, solvable cause of the crisis. The huge capital intensive projects and long term build out of power plants is decided and will not be changed, there will be lots of finger pointing and then what was going to happen will happen. It’s not analogous to turning around an aircraft carrier—- it’s building an aircraft carrier, launching, sailing, turning around , scrapping and then building a submarine instead.

No one will come out and say “we could have built all this shit so that it would function in cold. We didn’t because it didn’t make financial sense because Texas usually doesn’t get this cold. And it still doesn’t make financial sense so we’re not going to go upgrade it.”

If they said that people would make them go do it, and they don’t want to.

My point, specific to this incident, is it fair to say there are power traders in this market that made their numbers for the year, REP's  that were not appropriately hedged, and someone who is going to foot the bill, and who is that someone.

They did, but I was thinking more the urban brown/black vote that did not turn out.  I know Harris County and Houston still had 33% of its electorate not vote.  There needs to be some grass roots movements in the urban areas of Texas to get these folks engaged.

It makes me wonder about the generational analysis and ethnic diversity of latinos in Texas.  Remember in late 19th and early 20th American history about the european waves of immigrants, how one wave would be displaced by arrival of the next wave from a different european country.

But didnt a good portion of those brown people end up supporting trump in the most recent election? I think the hispanic vote is not so monolithic and some would believe.
