  1. Also complicating things is that this happened at night. During the day it very well could have been survivable since the pilot would be able to see more options like fields, roads, and avoid powerlines, etc. You don't have that luxury at night.

  2. I'm not holding my breath for any clear resolution to his immunity claims. Most likely outcome is SCOTUS rules he doesn't have 'absolute' immunity, but a sitting President does have immunity from A,B,C,D scenarios. So Trump will keep ranting and using a defense that each of his cases falls under one of those scenarios.

Perardi and the Kumars recall how he told fellow parents he had served in the Army, describing daring adventures as part of the elite Delta Force. He said he spoke multiple languages and had lived in Japan and Russia. He drew sympathy with a story that his parents had been killed when he was a child — and intellectual intrigue by claiming he had a master’s degree in quantum physics.

He kept his work intensely confidential, they recalled, insisting secrecy was required for his classified government job. He seldom carried a cellphone and resoundingly rejected being photographed.

Reasons 1,2,3,4, and 5 why this guy should have been disqualified from any remote bit of trust. Any single one of these tall tales is automatically met with my assumption that it's 100% bullshit. People who can legitimately claim these things don't just casually throw it into conversations at hockey games. And in the case that these ARE true, and they are casually talking about it, they're not the type of person I'd trust anyway.

Yeah, that last bit is one I don’t get. Trump made it a huge point to be all super I love Israel and Bibi and am moving the embassy to Jerusalem…and they think he’d make things BETTER for Gaza?

Saw an NBC Nightly News segment this week interviewing a suburban Detroit Arab American voter. Said she would not vote for Trump either, but instead write-in "Free Gaza".

  5. Not sure why but I'd like to drive a hotel shuttle bus when I retire. Seems easy and fun, and you only need to memorize the airport terminals and the route to/from the hotel. And there's a good chance the passengers will tip if you're dealing with bags.

Likely fuel starvation. Looking at FlightAware they were doing some sort of pipeline patrol/aerial photography and were in the air over 5 hours. Sucks because they had Terrell Municipal right there but tried to get all the way back to Mesquite. Time to update the resume...

Yeah, that figured into my analysis there.  When I said "judicial lawmaking."

Because that is, apparently, a valid form of state law governing elections, which is the primary source of that law until Congress enters the field, that would seem to give Colorado's determination of a valid candidate some extra force.

Thanks, and really appreciate all your contributions and analysis on here.

  8. Question for those who would know the answer ( @TwiceHorn)? Does this relate to the recent ruling striking down ISL? Is the logic behind one connected at all to the other and would that somehow impact the SCOTUS ruling on this issue?

  9. My take: this is the first time that app is getting widespread media coverage, so I'd expect the CEO to take advantage with statements like that trying to generate as much buzz as possible. Who knows if the numbers actually back it up - they likely don't.

How long has it been so Santos' expulsion, 10 days now? He's noticeably getting less and less relevant in headlines and my guess is that will continue. By end of year I doubt we'll be seeing much of anything about him...until his next court appearance/plea deal.

How about the two bizjets that almost t-boned each other at the intersection of 22/13R at Hobby?

Prelim NTSB report is out. The Hawker pilots were distracted trying to troubleshoot issues both on taxi and takeoff and didn't respond to controllers telling them to stop.

As N269AA approached runway 22 for departure, about 1515:50, ground control instructed the crew of N269AA to monitor LC frequency. The flight crew stated in their post-accident interview that as they passed taxiway “K2” during their taxi to runway 22 they switched to the LC frequency. As the airplane began the left turn to be perpendicular to the runway, they stated the V-speeds were no longer on the display screens.

At 1518:01 the local controller instructed the crew of N269AA to LUAW on runway 22, to which the crew acknowledged. The local controller did not give a traffic advisory to N269AA. N269AA was in the takeoff roll on runway 22, when the flight data/clearance delivery controller alerted the local controller about N269AA’s movement, and at 1519:47 the local controller stated “november nine alpha alpha, stop, hold your position.” There was no response from the crew of N269AA, and at 1519:53 the local controller again stated, “alpha, alpha, hold your position, stop,” to which there was still no response.

The flight crew from N269AA stated in their post-accident interview they had a rudder bias alert, and a pitch trim alert which they had to resolve as they were in the takeoff roll.

  11. Sounds like the Hawker took off with only a line up and wait clearance. And if that's true the Hawker pilot on the radio is a fucking asshole the way he's talking to ATC. I can cut him some slack because he just experienced a near death experience, but in his tone you can tell he's blaming ATC already when in fact it was his fault.

I always see people talk about booking business class to Europe on points, but for the life of me, I’m ignorant about how to pull that off. Whenever I search the various airlines, it’s 300k+ points for flights I would be interested in.

I’m DFW based. There’s a nice nonstop flight from DFW-CDG on AA that takes about 9 hours overnight. This past summer I booked it with Chase points at the equivalent cash rate for main cabin, hoping to then upgrade to at least premium economy. AA made a reasonable offer for business class so I then paid cash for that, but they don’t always offer that, or sometimes the price is still outrageous. If I search that same flight for random dates next May, it’s 498k points.

I’m not married to that particular flight or to AA, but I am usually picky about schedule. I prefer a nonstop that leaves DFW on a Thurs/Fri afternoon/evening and returns the following Sat/Sun. I’m okay flying into most major cities in Europe, but I’m partial to France and Italy.

What’s the angle here? Are there certain cards or loyalty programs I should be loading up on? Or does it require me to be flexible enough to fly in off-peak months and make a connection in the eastern U.S. before flying to Europe?

IMO, one major component of the points game is taking advantage of sign-up/initial spend bonuses to exponentially grow your points balance very quickly. Daily purchases are great and all, but nothing compares to a sign-up offer of XXX,XXX points if you spend $X in the first 3 months. Do that across a few cards and you'll have a shitload.

  13. And to add onto what JS1 said above (who btw is one I often look for to talk me off the ledge)... The poll and article offer zero context behind what really matters: electoral college. Like it or not the election will be determined by roughly 5 or 6 states (MI, PA, GA, AZ, NV) which based on recent elections have trended blue. They're not a sure thing by any means but they're positioned to come through again in 2024.

But it's way too early. Polls are just clickbait headlines at this point. And according to many there was supposed to be a red wave last year and look how that turned out.

  14. The site overall is running much better than before (I'm strictly a PC user and not on mobile). Might have been covered already in the Shit's Borked or Ads threads but the new ad placement on the side is making a big difference and has eliminated the annoying pop-up ads, non-closeable videos in the corner, and redirect problems I had to deal with before.

I appreciate the changes and updates recently made and can really tell the difference.
