You are reading too much in to it. It’s selected quotes from a recruiting analyst Evans has probably never seen before. I wouldn’t call it trolling, but it does appear Evans likes to mess with reporters a bit. Don’t worry about the surgeon thing either. If we had a dime for every recruit that told a reporter he wanted to get an MBA, law school, etc and then came to UT and studied exercise science we would all be rich. Pay more attention to Card telling Evans they can play at UT and then make $$$(NFL). And I think he’s playing up the package deal with George. Saying it to a reporter is one thing and saying it to Herman is another. I’m not worried at all.

I hope your right about him playing up the package deal with George.  Because my concern isn’t with Evans, it’s with George.  A few pages back there were clips of George at some camp and he didn’t exactly blow away the competition.  He had some good reps and some reps where guys blew by him.  Who’s to say that George’s ranking doesn’t go down after his senior season and Herman backs off of George.  Is Evans going to insist Texas show George love?  A lot can happen in the next year.  What if they commit to Texas and George doesn’t see the field and decides to transfer.  Evans going with him?

I can only go by what he says and not hope he’s just jerking some reporter around.  I’m sure Herman has a backup plan.

Kid is doing tons of research into his college choice, is fiercely loyal to his teammate, and has high aspirations both on and off the field? Definitely not aligned with Herman.

Look, I’m not giving up on Evans.  He’s a great player and would love to have him.  And I have to trust the coaches to evaluate him fully.  I’m just saying there might be some red flags.  These are some quotes that might peak my interest if I was a coach.

If his is a rough road, mine’s a rough road.

But in order for me to really be a rock and priority, you gotta take care of Damieon, too.

Texas sends a little flyer or whatever, do what they can.” Evans said. “I don’t know if they’re communicating with Damieon. They’re communicating with me, but as soon as we get on the phone, my first question is, ‘Has Damieon been talked to yet?

I just don’t like us being apart.

Here's the Bud Elliot interview with Zach Evans and Dameion George: https://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2019/3/20/18274271/zachary-evans-recruit-running-back-damieon-george-texas-lsu

Looks like Texas, LSU, and Bama have separated themselves for Dameion George.

After reading this interview, I’m not sure Evans is “aligned” with Herman’s program.  I think Evans is taking playing with George too far when it’s important to him if coaches are hitting up his buddy a lot.  And what’s up with this “I want to be a surgeon” business?  Shouldn’t he be focusing on his undergraduate degree first?  Does he want to major in “surgeoning”.?  In a couple of years, is he going to insist that George start or he’s not playing?  Something ain’t right.  Maybe we should focus on the 5* Rb out of AZ that’s visiting us this week.

  4. I think this is huge for the program.  Herman has indicated he doesn’t want to call plays.  I think he did last year because he doesn’t trust Beck to do it. Combine that with Herman not wanting to fire anybody and this may be the next best thing - bring in an experienced offensive mind and see if him and Beck can somehow figure out a way to call plays.  Maybe we’ll see both of them in the press box next year.

His idea of “putting two and two together “ seems like a bit of a stretch to me.  You’ve got about 30 schools recruiting Texas, why single out the Longhorns?  And maybe no school tipped off the DMN.  Maybe they just shouldn’t be so obvious.  Or maybe it was a concerned fan drinking a cold one that tipped off the media.

Meanwhile, the Horns247 users are blaming TFB for the leak. It's a shitshow

TFB posted  a “huge news coming” story earlier today.  wild speculation followed,  EJ dropped hints, USC mod verified the rumors, then EJ wrote his post.

I was told to keep quiet about it, but our USC reported that Bru McCoy is considering entering the transfer portal. Now that the cat is out of the bag with 'the big news,' here is what I know.

    — McCoy met with the USC staff and compliance earlier today.

    — McCoy entered the day with intentions to enter the transfer portal.

    — I'm not sure the exact details of the meeting, but if McCoy did end up filing his request to enter the portal, there is up to a 48 hour window before his name is entered in the portal.

    — McCoy is still not in the portal. He could end up staying at USC.

    — If McCoy enters the portal, Texas will have the best shot to land him.

    — Texas has not been in contact with McCoy. That would be considered tampering

USC’s board is more divided than UT’s has ever been, which is saying a lot. If today’s emergency meeting is going to deal with Swann, that must be way down on the list.

I noticed on their board that Darwin Barlow is considering switching his commitment to USC.  That would be good for us.

Murray's arm strength and accuracy are very good. His size is not as detrimental as it once was with the NFL contact rules. Hell, Doug Flutie lasted almost 20 years at the pro level in the 80's when you could decapitate QB's. He is smart about not taking hits, and I am not particularly concerned about him being able to play in the NFL. I could see him being a successful starter on the right team. You can't tell me that he isn't an upgrade over 30% of current NFL starters provided he stops being a whiny bitch.

I agree with all this, but he doesn’t seem like the best team player to me.  Being an asshole might work for a couple of years in college, but I don’t think his nfl teammates are gonna put up with his bullshit.  Especially when they know they can pick him up and flick him across the room like Ren and Stimpy.

I’m saying there is zero objective criteria that indicates that he would be even marginally successful as a HC. The only objective criteria available actually says that he’s a near-massive failure.

So that leaves only subjective criteria as being the reason he was hired. Whether that criteria was his looks, the sound of his voice, the color of his skin, crazy Madden skills, the evenness of his facial stubble....whatever, who knows. But success/failure in the position of HC was absolutely not any part of the equation.

Hell, Mark Mangino has equal (if not superior) acumen running the same offense.

Who’s the last guy that had ZERO NFL experience AND was a shitty college head coach that got a HC job “just because he might be awesome,”

I’ve been wrong before....hell, usually.... but I’d bet heavily that he’ll be a failure at the NFL level.

You may be right.  My “bad take” comment was clearly in reference to Acho inferring race was involved in the decision.
