so what about camping on the front stoop of an empty building?

right at the entrance to our neighborhood is a building, used to be a tanning salon but has been empty for about 6-9 mos. as of this past weekend, someone is camping by the front door, it is covered and is pretty large.

if you turn on the street you drive by the back, and there's clearly 'car camping' going on back there.  it's pulled up as close as it can to the back of the building...trunk is open, clothes and blankets are draped over the trunk lid and windows, other belongings spread around...

it's maybe 50 yards from the first house on the street.

i don't want to be a hardass, but i'm afraid it's going to grow. not a great look for the entrance to a neighborhood in 78757 🤨

I'm a former resident of The Woo in 78757. Is this off of Burnet next to Bill Millers?

If so, maybe ask Victor from the neighborhood FB page for his thoughts. He's usually money on issues such as crosswalks and birds in the area.

Anyone ever done one of the REI guided trips? I'm looking to get into backpacking but don't want to go alone at first and don't have a partner to go with me. I'm 35, probably about average fitness.

Looks like they have some interesting 3-ish day trips to places like Pacific Crest Trail and Appalachian Trail.

I've done 2 with them. I think if you searched around you might could find the same/similar trips for up to 30% less.

I think the biggest mistake most people make at first is carrying way too much stuff.

No doubt. I'm relatively new to backpacking and that's what I do.

Any of you done the Lone Star Hiking Trail? I did the first 20 mile section but had to stop. Want to go back and try and do the whole thing sometime within the year.

Former Brownsville St. Joseph QB Kai Money landed a walk-on spot. Kid had a ton of hype out of middle school and started at the varsity QB spot as a freshman. Pretty electric athlete that had a good career but was largely hampered by the Mickey Mouse coaching staff at that school. He's definitely capable of moving to the secondary or WR position, I really hope does well and plays his way into some games at some point.

Didn't his dad play at Rice?

The NBA needs to add a section to its rookie orientation that says, “Fucking use Goldman or Merrill Lynch or one of the big banks’ wealth management people to oversee your funds instead of your cousin or an advisor who says he specializes in “athlete clients” - you fucking idiots.”

I've always agreed with Steve Eisman's take on Goldman and Merrill from The Big Short.

“We have a simple thesis,” Eisman explained. “There is going to be a calamity, and whenever there is a calamity, Merrill is there.” When it came time to bankrupt Orange County with bad advice, Merrill was there. When the internet went bust, Merrill was there. Way back in the 1980s, when the first bond trader was let off his leash and lost hundreds of millions of dollars, Merrill was there to take the hit. That was Eisman’s logic—the logic of Wall Street’s pecking order. Goldman Sachs was the big kid who ran the games in this neighborhood. Merrill Lynch was the little fat kid assigned the least pleasant roles, just happy to be a part of things. The game, as Eisman saw it, was Crack the Whip. He assumed Merrill Lynch had taken its assigned place at the end of the chain.

Looked several places for some boots down in Old Mexico. Mostly small shops as we were in mostly small towns. Apparently a size 12 american is huge down there. Didn't find anything decent with leather soles and a non extra pointy toe down there. Looks like I may be ordering some Tecovas in the future. A 12D Lucchese in a standard toe is too narrow for me, while the next widest size is too lose. The square toed ostrich Luccheses I have fit great. Most other boots fit well in a 12D, Anderson Bean, etc. So how do the Tecovas compare? Also, are the soles pegged in the arch? One row or two rows of pegs? Wooden pegs, brass pegs, or a combination? These things make a difference.

I have some 3 plus year old Anderson Beans square toe in 15D. Went to the Tecovas store yesterday and bought the Cole in Chocolate Caiman in 15D. The Tecovas are significantly more comfortable.

I know people say CTJ/Sydney/etc. are stocks of each other. But this is the first thing I've ever though could actually be a CTJ sock.

It's his exact persona of faux-ambivalence married to some kind of deep-seated insecurity, which manifests itself in psychotic attacks out of nowhere followed by super insecure humblebrags. But instead of it having all the rage of a CTJ post, it's like the countrified version.

    Still, though, negged.

it's ctj channeling his inner Rex Kramer.
