I always wonder what makes kids try to go pro a year too soon? Who is in their ear telling them a pretty decent season in college, is what NFL scouts have a difficult time finding? Did Moore make some clutch catches this year? Yep sure did. But Enough to make real bank in the NFL? Probably not, unfortunately. Then I think about two things. 1) Moore is already getting a decent check at Texas. 2) A season with a more seasoned QB a nd another year of development might get top NFL money, (If you can ball out like an NFL player in college)
With NIL I understand less and less jumping a year too soon. And truly wonder which Uncle, mom, brother, sister, cousin, girlfriend, mistress, wife, MIL, SIL, BIL thinks they can get some of your NFL money, who is advising you on jumping to the NFL?
Moore threatened to transfer near the end of the portal window last year and leveraged a pay bump. He then proceeded to change and turn into a diva and turned in a season that fell short of expectations. What makes you think he’d get the same money from Texas this year? Moore is exactly the kind of guy who needs to be pushed out of the program - whether transferring to another school or going to the NFL.
It is good that players can get paid now. But money can and does change people. It is hard enough to figure out how the money affects players in the NFL - guys who are professionals and older. It is much harder to figure out who can and can’t handle it when the players are teenagers, many of whom have friends/families in their ears without their best longterm interests in mind.
Sark has talked a lot about how Texas doesn't lead with NIL in recruiting and how they try to ID guys who love football, because those guys are more likely to develop and not be changed by the money. If that is true, and it is an ongoing learning process for any program, then (in my view anyway) it is a sign of health to say no to established players who thinking they are worth more than they actually are. Texas would have been better served saying no to Moore last year, and I’m hopeful that lessons are being learned.

the following is all public information:
Bordi was not with the team most of last season. She returned home to, in her words, "work on her personal/mental health"

Sad story really. Patty talks kid into skipping her senior year of high school because Patty didn't expect Landry to be so good. Kid makes huge sacrifice for the program and Patty buries her on the bench. Should be a cautionary tale for future recruits.
There's more to it than that.

Did anyone watch Underwood this season and see the #1 QB recruit material for which he was hyped? He seemed okay. No doubt he will get better, but I didn't see a wizard on the field.
I agree, but then I wonder about how to form any conclusions about any QB in a Sherrone Moore offense.

I’m trying to imagine what belief is off the table for someone who earnestly believes a 10 year old has multiple major programs offering scholarships. This is way beyond flat earth or faked moon landing territory. I’m sure there is something that would be more outlandish and unbelievable, but I’m coming up empty.

Moore leaving ultimately to the portal instead of the NFL is what I've been arguing now for weeks. If he goes to the NFL end of things, he's an UDFA based off of what I have seen. He'll get a shitty grade or already has one. The agent will put out feelers and someone in college will be willing to throw $500k at him for another year. Good luck for everyone with that.
That said, that's a significant clearance of payroll without taking a major roster hit. Either one of the younger guys is ready, or several are, or they can bring in someone elite or offering a more efficient spend with similar productivity. I'd take any of those outcomes over Moore getting his ask again from UT.
Moore is the poster child for how this era hinders development. He came in as a guy who “did everything right”. Then he pulled that leverage move where he threatened to transfer, Texas caved, and the combination of the money and “winning” the leverage play put him in a different mindset - and whatever steps forward you would want to see in development from a sophomore to junior year sure didn’t seem to show up on the field.
Hindsight is 20/20, but Texas would have been better off finding an established G5/lower P4 guy looking to prove himself for 2/3 the money.

The best running back in the SEC played for a G5 school his first year. Yes we are looking at all schools.the thing killing this program right now are the mid 4-star types who think they are 5-star sure fire NFL first round picks, and act like it despite not having earned a damn thing. Most of these kids have agents and family members in their ears telling them to sit out, protect their draft stock, don't risk putting up bad film if less than 100%, don't risk injury playing against lesser teams. These are back ups, mind you. Texas has indulged this the last few years. It bit them in the ass this year and will continue to bite them in the ass if something doesn't change. I'm hopeful that it will.
I'm increasingly of the mind that Texas should pay a premium for the no doubt unique talents and pay for proven production and avoid/be hyper selective for those upper mid tier high school recruits. Time will tell, but I'm growing in my belief that this new evolution of free transfers and 6/7 figure payments out of high school are hindering the development of a high proportion of these guys. Find the ones who are truly devoted to the craft and/or know how to handle the money and have a support system around them that is conducive to development. Otherwise, find the ones who form their work ethic at the G5/lower P4 level and have successfully developed and bring them in.

I don't understand where Notre Dame's leverage is coming from. They need the CFP more than the CFP needs them. If Notre Dame whines and cries and refused to sign onto whatever CFP arrangement is ratified by the conferences, their recruiting will absolutely tank - why would any player with options go to a school that can't win a national championship? What fan would think a playoff champion would be illegitimate because a weakened Notre Dame wasn't participating?
Notre Dame deserves no special treatment - they are not bigger than the sport. If they want the protections and guarantees affording to conferences, they should join a conference. If they insist on being independent then they get treated as any other independent. If their record and strength of schedule merit inclusion, they are eligible to be included. Nothing more, nothing less.
Why do so many administrators feel the need to bend the knee to Notre Dame? What on earth can Notre Dame possibly do? They have no leverage, yet they make demands and expect special treatment.

people need to read this, then read it again, then read it a third time - a lot has been written about Baxter and it is true insofar as he is an outstanding worker, person, teammate, etc. But what CTJ wrote isn't usually included in the gushing, and it is absolutely true and need to be understood as part of the bigger picture.

Calling my shot, SA Johnson upsets LT this weekend. I think Johnson has a decided athletic advantage and an explosive offense, I expect a shootout with the Jags winning.
Dickinson wil beat North Shore, also in a high scoring shootout.

North Shore 46 Dickinson 29

Laila Phelia is healthy and doing well at Syracuse. She has started every game this season and is shooting 41% from behind the arc.
she's playing with fire and probably should retire for her own good. I posted an article from a syracuse paper a while back outlining her eye issues. It's good to see her doing well at Syracuse, but she didn't have a future at Texas.

FWIW - You are overrating Worthy’s injury. It occurred in late October and was less serious than Wingo’s thumb injury.

i know it's been mentioned, but the mariachi band literally drained all the energy in the stadium Friday night. it was palpable.
Mariachi bands have their time and place. A football game teetering on the edge is not one of them.
This is 10000% true - both Mariachi performances were total energy drains. I like the Mariachi's in the 4th quarter of the Sam Houston St. type games, but it is way out of place in any kind of intense game atmosphere.
I understand and embrace the entertainment aspect of the stadium experience. I know it isn't for me and, for the most part, I neither enjoy it nor am particularly bothered by it. I also go to most away games. Other than the OU and Michigan experiences, every place does it more or less the same. There does seem to be a bit of competition, wanting to be the one with the newest or latest gadget. DKR seems (mostly) ahead of the curve on that with the drones and lights and such - though UGA had this coordinated wrist light things that produced a pretty remarkable light effect during timeouts.
I realize this is probably too much to expect, but I wish there was more flexibility/adaptability. I understand there is probably a script that is produced ahead of time that they follow, but it would be great if there was more of an ability to read the room, so to speak, and make snap decisions on what will best work. The mariachis went over like a lead balloon early in the game - I know it would suck for them to get cut later, but rolling them out again later was a disservice to the team/stadium. Knowing when to stay out of the way, or when to do a crowd favorite. Is 4th down coming up? Did they just give up a long TD and need some pumping up? Is momentum building to a crescendo? There needs to be more adaptability.

Get ready for some epic fucking title games between LSU and tOSU the next few years. Day and Kiffin are arguably the 2 greatest CFB coaches of all time, now both with keys to unlimited resources and talent rich programs. This is bad for us but good for the sport. It will also cool the coaching market for a bit as no one is going to want to pay these insane sums just for CFP exits each year.
You are finally using your powers for good. I, for one, applaud this development.

Ah, now I understand what you mean. I just interpreted that as a crappy rendering of burnt orange, but that is probably a misfire on my part.

This makes no sense. Reggie was the winning player.
right - Reggie was making the choking sign to the NY Knicks. The graphic isn't suggesting Reggie Miller was choking.

If she wants to coach again, and I’m sure she does, the worst thing she could have done is quite quit. CDC ain’t gonna give her much of a recommendation otherwise.
Again, she is not a bad person. Obviously a class act the way she handled the obvious end of her tenure and kept recruiting until the bitter end. The anti-Mack Brown.
she obviously needed to go, but Kelly was the best human being among the UT coaches.

Petrino was asked about this in the PC and he actually thought *Arkansas* got a favorable spot on that punt. So ackshually it does fit the thread narrative.
(Should start at right spot but jump to 7:30 otherwise…)
In the stadium I thought it went out of bounds much closer to the LOS than to where it landed.
my seat at the stadium had a perfect angle to see the punt, and to my eye it was called accurately. It had weird spin where it was out of bounds but not slicing away, so it was consistently a few feet wide, but consistently so.

The game in Fayetteville last year was one of the tamest game environments I've ever seen. The supposed hatred people love to wax poetic about is overblown.
Players on both will be more motivated by Brad Spence moving from Arkansas to Texas than any sense of historic rivalry that was last relevant several decades before they were born.

Texas Roster 2026

Whittington was a true team guy. Moore was a guy who figured out it was good for business to be perceived as a team guy.
